Continually getting calls telling me my PC is infected - have told them not to call but they persist

just got the same number ring me, but hung up when answered. after reading all your comments i shall not be answering them again!!!

I cannot believe the number of posts about this number that have been placed since January 2011 yet this number is still calling in an effort to scam people! Presuming that most people are reporting it to TPS or Ofcom so what are those two doing about it? After a year it appears not a lot.

Anyhoo, had my first call today, googled it and was not surprised to find out the caller is some sort of scammer. Armed with this information, I will be ready and waiting for their next call. If I can keep them on long enough I'm going to load up Call of Duty on the console and switch on my home cinema system. Then when the machine guns and air strikes kick in, I'll have some fun with them. If they stay on the line long enough.

Did something similar with a relentless nuisance scammer on my mobile. I was outside on one call and got a mate to pretend they were mugging me so we made lots of fighting type noises then he told them he'd ran off with the phone and left the owner bleeding on the ground. The caller freaked out and I never heard from them again.

My mum (82) got a  similar call today (Cheshire), fortunately she's too computer illiterate to understand what the hell they were talking about so aked them to ring back at 5 when I was home but surprisingly they didn't!!!!

Now targeting Jersey, Channel Islands, checked the number after i saw a missed call on my call log, also got one a few hours later but caller ID Unavailable so didn't pick up, proably disguising their number.

had a call off this number at would you believe at 4.43 AM!!!!! asking me "do you have a computer?" was not happy in the slightest, after i ranted and raved he just put the phone down on me.

this number has called me twice now and no-one on the other end

its been 2 days and this number keeps calling me, 4 times a day minimum. The first few times i picked up and it is the same story, there is no answer on the other end and then a computer automated good-bye. Looks like they have reached chester now

I live in Newcastle and I have had 2 calls from this number. 1st call (at around 9.45pm)  I said hello & got no reply so I hung up, 2nd time (around 10.00am) I still had no reply so just left the phone off the hook until they hung up.

I have had 3 phone calls from this number in 2 days now, nobody on the other end of the phone!

Just got a call from an Indian sounding lady purporting to be from a company called Microtech.  Said she would show me how to remove viruses from my computer and was insistent I log on immediatley.  Luckily I was in the middle of something else so asked her to call back in an hour.  The impression given was that this company represented Microsoft.  Phone number she called me on was 02538020308, luckily before she has phoned me back I googled Microtech and this phone number.  I certainly will not be giving her any info or following her instructions on my computer!

Got a call this morning saying they were from Windows and that I had viruses on my computer that were affecting things at their end, and I needed them to be cleared. The man on the phone was so believable.
I foolishly logged on and gave him a few details.He next asked me to  go to a web site and click into it. Next minute my mouse cursor was moving around on its own and system details etc were appearing on the screen  That was when I first got suspicious. But the asian sounding man on the line was so convincing that I carried on. He told me that I needed to purchase new software today or my computer would be blocked at my address and that unless I bought the new software I would never be able to use a computer at my address  again as my Computer ID at my address would be blocked. HOW NIAVE  WAS I?
I was truly amazed at all the system details appearing on screen saying that they were viruses etc. IT really did seem feasible that it was really  being carried out at from "Windows" end.
It was not until a "Western Transfer Money" form appeared on the screen that I really got worried, but he was so,so, so convincing that I filled it in. By this time I had been on the telephone for over an hour. It was only when I ticked a box to recieve news letters etc from the Western money transfer company, and he told me to click the "no" box that I started to become really suspicious. Next minute my mouse cursor started moving on its own again. So that was when I turned my computer off.
I immediately called my bank and told them what happened and they told me to change my internet signing on details, which I have since done. How could I be so foolish, I even gave them my credit card details. About an hour later my phone rang again from the same number as before. I did not answer this time.

Don't change your banking details until you have had your computer checked out locally.  These people install spyware/malware on the machine if you have give them remote access, which you have done.  If you change your passwords, etc, before you get it checked, these rats can "see" the new ones.  This scam was exposed on "You've been Scammed", BBC1, 21st November last.  The Director of Security for Microsoft said, on the same programme, that neither Microsoft, nor its partners, would ever 'phone you.  It would be a breach of their privacy rules.  No-one who cold calls you knows anything about your computer unless you tell them.  They know nothing about viruses, or trojans, they just try to frighten you.  A new trick is to give you a number and tell you where to find it on your machine.  They tell you this number is unique to your machine and proves there is a problem with that machine.  This is not true.  The number is, in fact, the Windows Licence Number and appears on all computers running Windows.

Just got a call, you'd think after 2 years of scamming ofcom/police/someone would do something about it?

Have been having this calls for months even after not answering, abusing them and literally just being rude to them they will not get the message. Luckily myself or my husband are not silly enough to give out any details but these people should be banged up. Previous calls were from 01234765093 these were everyday day for the last month. Now they are using this number two today already.

Had various calls recently, including two today (up to now havent answered any). I only got the number thanks to caller display as when I dialled 1471 the message I got was "sorry the last call was from a network which is unable to transmit numbers"
When I attempted to call back by dialling the number i just got the "Sorry, the number you have dialled has not been recognised" message

I thought the government was clamping down on this kind of thing or is it the same as everything they say theyre going to do........... Just a load of hotair?

The reason why no-one is doing anything is that this number is a fake, via Skype or VOIP and is from India.  It is just one of the hundreds of fake numbers the computer virus scammers use.  If 1 was found they would just find another. It is frustrating that no-one seems able, or willing, to stop these calls.  Your 'phone provider will provide blocking, at a price, so it is not in their interest to do anything.  As it is outside the UK the police are powerless and I am not sure what the government could do.
