Next time, I will blast them with the dog whistle in the hope that their eardrums will burst!

Husband did not answer the phone so I did a 1471 today 28th JANUARY,2012

I received a call from this number today 28/01/2012 at approx. 12.20.  Asian sounding telling me I had multiplying viruses in my computer (lots of whispering in the background) and that somebody in the home was visiting porn sites on a regular basis.   Tried to sell me virus protection telling me that my present security cover was not enough.  New my name and was able to tell me my Customer Licence ID - nearly fell for it until he tried to send me to a site called ALBANITE.  Put the phone down - they tried to call me back so I have taken the phone off the hook for a while.  I live in Macclesfield, Cheshire.

THAT WAS NOT YOUR CUSTOMER LICENCE ID.  This is a new twist to the scam.  The number is, in fact, the Windows Licence Number and is the same on every computer in the world which runs Windows.  They are also not trying to sell you virus perotection, they are trying to get remote access to your computer and will install spyware/malware on it to steal your info.  The scam was on "You've been Scammed", BBC1 last November.  The Director of Security for Microsoft said, on the programme, that neeither Microsoft, nor its partners, would ever 'phone you.  It would be a breach of their privacy rules.

They've moved onto Essex.
Wife answered a call from this number, then..........silence, she then entered half a dozen  #'s & a female voice said a very weary "goodbye" !!!!
Could this be the way to "hash them" off ??

Received this call at 14:47 today. Purported to be a 'very important call for the main user of the computer' allegedly from 'Windows'. I just said the main user wasn't available. Sounded like a scam to me.

Just had call from this No no one there then automated "Goodbye" also been getting same calls from 0676767 programmed no's into my phone under DONT ANSWER so now just ignore them. but will be getting a whistle lol. If everyone on here does same they will soon go deaf.

just to add, had a call from this number at 12.30 too. oh and i'm in scotland, so other end of the country now lol

an asian man tried to tell me i had a lot of viruses on my computer claiming to be microsoft. (even though i dont) i told him "ive got an apple mac you [***]" and he hung up. now i get calls and a robot woman waits a few seconds before saying "goodbye" and hanging up

Whatever type of nuisance call you're receiving, you can take some basic precautions to minimise the disruption to your life and maintain control of the situation:
    Stay calm. Simply say 'No, thank you' and hang up the phone. If the nuisance call is from a telemarketing company, request that they take your name and number off their calling list and don't call you again. By law in the UK companies must comply with your request.
    Register with the Telephone Preference Service (www.tpsonline.org.uk) to reduce the overall volume of nuisance calls you're receiving - independent research that this is likely to reduce the number of unwelcome calls you receive by 50%.
    Never reveal personal information, particularly credit card details, unless the caller is someone you know and trust. If you're interested, but unsure, request information in writing or ask questions that will confirm the caller's identity.
    Never let yourself to be rushed into a decision on the phone. Take your time and request written confirmation of an offer or request for money before you make a commitment. If something sounds too good to be true then it's probably a scam.


Malicious call advice

Malicious calls are calls whose intent is to cause distress. They include a threat to you, your family or your property, calls which contain abusive or sexually explicit language, silent calls intended to cause you anxiety or calls at inappropriate times. Prank calls can also cause considerable distress, particularly if they are persistent.

In many cases making a malicious call is a criminal offence.

If you receive a call that makes a direct threat, you should contact the Police immediately, otherwise it is a good idea to monitor the situation yourself before you decide what to do.

If you receive a silent call you may be concerned that it is malicious, but very often this is not the case. Most silent calls are the result of predictive dialling activity by telemarketing companies, particularly if they arrive during the day or early evening.

General advice for handling malicious calls:-
    Take your time before you answer the phone.
    Speak calmly and warn off the caller by saying "I'm making a complaint to the Police. Don't call me again.", or "I've notified the Police and they're tracing this call. Don't call again.". You can also try saying "Operator, this is the call." or "call trace" followed by the date and time before you hang up. The mention of a trace on the line, even if it is untrue, will worry a malicious caller. If you feel physically threatened you can shout something like "I've got it" as if addressing someone in the next room before you address the caller directly.
    Place the handset next to the phone and walk away for 2 or 3 minutes to deprive the caller of the satisfaction of a response.
    If the phone rings again don't speak when you answer it - a genuine caller will speak first if you don't say anything. If the caller rings back repeatedly unplug your phone and extensions or switch off the ringer so that calls will go through to your answering machine if you have one.
For every malicious call you receive you should make as detailed a note as possible including information about:
    Call time and date
    The caller's number (if available)
    The nature of the call
    Any background noises
    The caller's gender and approximate age
    The caller's accent and any speech impediment
    Did the caller seem drunk or sober?
    The specific wording used by the caller
    The duration of the call
This information can help identify and prosecute the nuisance caller.
It is always worth dialling '1471' after a malicious call - normally the number will be withheld, but sometimes callers are unaware that office switchboards generally don't respond to the 'withhold number' 141 prefix

26 Jan 2012,I spoke to an indian sounding woman and 2 men in turn: all sounding calm and consistently repeating they were from Microsoft UK support. I knew I had not sent any error reports but they insisted they had a microsoft 'router 'report showing viruses attached to traffic from our PC, Allegedly, our fire wall was not working properly. They asked me to open a REMOTE CONTROL PORTAL SO THEY COULD REMOVE VIRUSES AND INSTALL AN EFFECTIVE FIREWALL....AS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR MY OLD PC....COST AT LEAST £120.....DON'T DO IT! They could plant spyware or copy all your memory or even wipe it .
Just wish I'd known about this site earlier, and hope somebody catches them.

Hey I keep on getting a phone call from this number too. I pick up and it is silent for about 4 seconds then in an automated voice it says goodbye. Have you found out what it is yet.

This has now reached Cornwall,I have received my 4th call today and was told my pc infected by malicious wear through my e mails. Asian man said he was from Windows and in New York,next time I too will have my whistle near by,lets hope this gets stopped soon,do not pass on any info or switch on pc,just hang up.

Got a call a few minutes ago from this number although the caller tried to tell me that his number was 02538020308. I do not work for directory enquiries but this didnt look like any real number to me so i asked him again and to tell me which country he was calling from, I didnt get a response.
This is the 5th time they have called my number and everytime thay have all my details, name address etc  . This has got to be a scam I have virus protection and do not need a random caller to "help".

Got the same call as many others at 14:45 , I am in the North West, the Asian woman's voice asked about my computer, advised her that I did not have one , that I knew about the scam and advised her to stop, she said she did not need my advise and hung up!
Surely someone should be taking action to stop these people as a lot of innocent folk are going to be taken for a ride.

Just had a call from this number thick Asian accent male asked for someone miss young I told him noone of that name here! He then asked who I was!!!! I said no who r u! U called me he then hung up on me! I  in Scotland so the whole of the UK suffering with these scam phone calls!

I have had three calls in the last hour from this number when i answeded it i had a silent line.

We've had a number of these calls over the past 6 months from a hard to understand Asian man.  I told him I knew it was a scam and he said, "Shut your face you idiot."  I told him what he could do to his mother and then hung up on him.
