BBC's Watchdog programme last night exposed the activities of British Solar, a cold-calling company selling solar PV and air source heat pumps to older, often vulnerable consumers.
The behaviours shown on BBC’s Watchdog yesterday are specifically outlawed by the Renewable Energy Consumer Code and by the consumer protection legislation that underpins it. Those responsible clearly have a case to answer and may be guilty of committing criminal offences. British Solar is not a member of RECC.
Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) installer standards require that only MCS-certified companies can sign contracts with consumers. We are aware British Solar may have been working with some MCS companies, and any certified installers found to be in breach of the RECC Code and MCS Standards will be fully investigated.
RECC is always willing to assist in any way possible the enforcement agencies that are working to resolve these very serious matters.
We encourage all consumers considering the installation of a small-scale renewable technology to follow our Top Tips.
Whilst the Company has on the face of it closed the commercial director bradley Chapman featured on watchdog has opened a new office in Harlow Essex under the name of Brite Sun UK. - Mathew Turner replies to Journal| 2 repliesDear Recc
You stated that you believe Bradley chapman or british solar may of committed criminal offences. Please specify what criminal offences you believe have taken place? Please think carefully how you answer. As one of the regulatory body's in this industry you really shouldn't be accusing or even suggesting anyone has commited a criminal act on a public forum without evidence. Please include your full name in your response
Regards
Mathew Turner - Tim replies to Mathew Turner| 1 replyI think you'll find that the BBC suggested that too.
Aggressive selling to consumers is unlawful and individuals as well as corporations can be prosecuted for such.
It's a breach of the unfair trading regulations 2008.

I've read the claims about British Solar and Bradley Chapman.
If the BBC claims are correct I think a criminal act has been completed. The following file explains with flow charts.

I hope for bradley chapmans sake they haven't. - Mathew Turner| 19 repliesI think we need to be clear on the differences between a civil and a criminal act before you accuse Bradley of committing a criminal offence. I think its also important to be clear in the difference between a sales person embellishing the truth to improve their results and Bradley teaching them to do so
- Tim replies to Mathew Turner| 15 repliesManagers of and Directors of companies have personal responsibility to ensure that they comply with legislation and knowing that there are breaches of legislation and staff trained to be economical with the truth and the company claiming their paid by the government for an hour of energy advice which is an outright lie and a lie brad was happy to continue ..... Trading standards are now investigating what has happened and it is alleged that Robert Jackson and bradley Chapman have blood on their hands....
There are signed statements from people in their 80's for gods stake and under cover tv footage of lies lies and lies.... - Robert H replies to Tim| 14 repliesDear Mr Turner
I watched the BBC story on Bradley Chapman and how people in their 70's have been had over.
I felt sick. And you should do too.
Please don't start defending the morals of those involved here. Who I'm sure are about to repeat it all over at Brite Sun UK which seems to have spawned...
