He asked to speak to Mr.... (my husband) When I told him that he died 5 years ago he apologised. I told him to get his facts right and not call again and then he hung up. Obviously I don't want to have conversations like this.

Got a call this afternoon from The Energy Care Dept (!?) - asking to speak to a Mrs D****, who hasn't had this landline number for 18mths, so the data they are working from is pretty old hat.

When I said Mrs D**** didn't live here, the caller put the phone down.

Got a call today from "Drew" who said he was calling from the "Energy Care Department". When I asked him what company that department belonged to, he didn't seem to understand at first, but eventually said "The Green Energy Company". He then said that the purpose of his call was "to discover which households are illegible for the incentives."

I asked him to repeat that and he rephrased it. So I then said "Did you say 'which households are illegible' ?"
He said yes and I couldn't help sniggering. He hung up.

Energy Care Department call today, most recent of many, turned  into threat to come round to our house, I've got your address, and sort out us "[***]". Have made complaint to police. Man called Raymond or Roland very aggressive and threatening.

I had a call from these guys around 4 months ago, I had a lovely gentlemen who came round to see me and my wife. We already had  3 quotes for solar panels, they beat all 3 and gave us a longer guarantee than any of the other company's. Our returns are great! I went to visit the company to fill in some forms and was pleasantly surprised to find  that they were employing a great proportion of school leavers who would rather work hard than claim benefits. My opinion is give them a chance, they have preformed miracles for me.

I had a call today from "the energy care dept" working on behalf of a government inititive.I asked him what was his telephone number,and he said what do you want it for ?I said so I could report it to OFCOM(a useless outfit) and he hung up.I rang 1471 and got the mobile number 07847803142.he is going to regret calling me,because I SHALL CALL THIS NUMBER,on a regular basis.Can you all do the same....

I received a call several months ago where I had a lot of trouble identifying the caller as they are several The Green Energy Companies and I got angry and told them to get lost rather than playing along with them as I did today by seeming interested and saying I had a house and not a flat (they wanted to hang up on me before when they found I was a flat owner).

After I seemed interested to the initial female caller I got a call back from a male caller from whom I got fuller details on their scheme (incredibly he lied there were still juicy feed in tariffs available and I could make a lot of money whereas we all know the juicy incentives not longer exists so he was a liar) and he said they were in my area and wanted to visit this afternoon.  I am now awaiting a third call where I will tell them where to stick their Green Energy Panels as it is not worth having a doorestep confrontation (they might damage your car or anything if you make them come all the way to your home to tell them to get lost).

The TPS and ICO seem to be completely useless when a call centre like this is making lots of aggressive cold calls using exactly the same methods as Nev Wilshire's The Call Centre with no apparent fear at all that anything may happen to them if they continue to do so.  The useless lazy ICO only got off its fat overpaid [***] and did something re The Call Centre because of the public embarassment of the BBC Two program.

Following on from the above post I have now just received a third phone call from these miserable toe rags from phone number 01277 202918.  This is a Brentwood number so this call was clearly actually from a Green Energy Company employee.  I told him what I thought of them ringing me again when they had called me before and identified me as not qualifying for their scheme and said I would be reporting the whole thing to the TPS, ICO, actionfraud.police.uk and to the CItizens Advice Consumer Service - www.oft.gov.uk/consumer-advice/CAB-overview

I have started an additional thread at https://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/01277202918#p612787122555229203 about the Brentwood landline number of 01277 202918 that made the third call to me today to try to confirm the salesman's visit as a result of the TPS breaching calls.

This is because the ICO should be able to trace the owner of this number unlike the mobile SIM cards used that will have been topped up with cash and taken out of service long before the ICO ever gets round to investigating this matter.  I strongly suspect the call from the 01277 number is from one of the actual employees of The Green Energy Company rather than a temporary cold call making worker acting on their behalf to get new leads.

Caller in noisy background announced himself as from the "Energy Care Department" 'working in conjunction with the government'.  Asked him what was his company and he eventually said the "Green Energy Company" (though I have no way to know that the caller was being truthful).  He checked my name and address (with an out of date postcode).  He gave the spiel about renewable energy.  Asked if I was married: what does that have to do with energy?  Asked my age: ditto.  Told him I was registered with TPS and already have PV and biomass heating and not to call again, then hung up on him.

If this is www.thegreenenergycompanyuk.com they claim to be MCS and REA accredited (although I can't see them in the MCS directory...)

MCS is essential for getting your incentive payments.  In order to become MCS certificated, installation companies must be members of RECC (or an equivalent scheme).

The REA Consumer code (http://www.recc.org.uk/scheme/consumer-code) states:  "Where members promote their services by direct mail or telephone, they must first check the names against the mailing preference service or telephone preference service databases for any exclusions." amongst other bans on high pressure selling.

So cold calling without first checking against TPS potentially invalidates the company's crucial REA membership and MCS accreditation.  

A question to ask is "Are you MCS accredited?  What is your certificate number?"  If no, then don't use them!  If yes and you're TPS...

My father (elderly and forgetful) has been targeted by these guys. By the time I caught it they had already been round to the house and got him to sign a contract for solar panels. Its worth saying that there is a 'Cooling off' period of seven days during which this contract can be cancelled. I have now done this on the phone, in person to the surveyor who turned up when I was there, and in a registered letter signed by my father.  Since then (yesterday, when we cancelled the contract) they have phoned back twice when I was there and I'm not sure how many times when I've not been in.

.... several questions later, having identified it is a private limited company, and he will not tell me if they know about the Telephone Preference Service

Caller: I have not time to deal with you mate
Hangs up.

Some intelligence suggests that these people do work for the Government in investigation work.
Many Banks are part Gov owned. That is how they get your phone number, Even ex directory ones.
I have found that those banks have records of these callers. It was on their list when I asked them.
One  called at my place with Gov connection. He had a tag round his neck. Through the way he did things I knew he was as I say above. When I told him that the house was insulated he got argumentive, as if he was in charge and I should not question him.
Is it any wonder that they do not have the manners of genuine sales staff, when they work with another organisation.
Their mannerism is the type of THOSE WHO ARE USED TO BEING IN CHARGE, AND SHOULD NOT BE QUESTIONED.
Those you might report this type of thing to, are all part of the act, so I am told.
Just don't talk to them. It may lead on to Panels on your roof, or insulation, but that is not their aim, and they will give that work to others. Beware. You are being led up the garden path.

I know they are not what we are being told on here. They have never been in sales. Wrong mannerisms.
The bloke was trying to get customers in a Development which put in insulation in cavities  As the houses were built, after 1983 WITHIN THIS DEVELOPMENT  a few years after it became Law.
He and his so called company should have known that as a basic knowledge. He even had SURVEYOR on his back.

I have just given up a sales rep position there, and can tell you categorically that they are just a hard sell company, only interested in generating huge profits as fast as they can. I left because of the lies I was told to tell potential customers, to get them to buy there and then.

The call centre is just a large room full of 20yr olds, under pressure to get as many "bites" as possible. When they get a bite it is passed to one of the sales managers, who then tries to get them to agree to have a sales rep come round to their house on the day, then the sales rep is trained to lie to them to get them to buy the solar panels there and then.

They have NOTHING to do with the government whatsoever!

You are so right. I think the poster is a "conspiracy theorist", or just trying to muddy the water.  In my book "working with the government" and "running a con business" is the same thing anyway!!

Watch out for this bunch-they take a deposit and vanish. I have called trading standards and the Police and REA/MCS.
They are not accredited to either and as stated by another person on this forum ring and tell you they are a government department to get a rep around to scam you.
Once in the house it is so easy to get sucked into to the lies and stories that are spun. Give me a deposit on your card and you can cancel in 7 working days-RUBBISH, my card company are trying under section 75 of the distant trading regulations to get it back and they will not even respond to them.
Call and all you get is children answering the calls and no manager is ever there.
