Apparently we have signed up for what ever this system is does anybody know how to cancel it please

I got home today to find 3 messages waiting on my landline answerphone.  All were identical recordings of a female voice which had the first part of the message cut off, but said "I repeat, please call 07953 966066" without giving any reason.  Needless to say, I didn't - but I am very concerned to see how many YEARS this whocallsme thread has been going!   Surely someone by now has taken action to stop this nuisance?

Having read much earlier posts here, some of which suggest that this is a genuine messaging service, i decided to risk 30p and call the number.  The first recorded message said "You have 3 messages", but each time I pressed the key to hear one, all i got was a brief sound then another recording saying "That was the last message" ; even for the first one.
I don't know what to make of that.  No-one I know ever texts me, and I'm sure that if someone I know needed to contact me so urgently that they sent three messages within the space of one hour, they would just pick up the phone and CALL me, instead of making 3 attempts at sending a text.  It has the feel of someone making money from getting people to ring the number.

I got a call off this number at 5 to midnight last night  I didn't answer it then at 7 this morning  I answered and  cut it off quick l so annoying  ii got suspicious

I received a text from this number saying 'you better watch out'

I also had a call like that. About five minutes later there was another delivering a voice message. The message was 'ula'!! I don't usually pick up when I don't recognise the number, but was worried that it might be one of the family calling from a strange number for some reason. What kind of people are these??!!😬

Someone has sent a text to your landline by mistake and this is an automated voice telling you the message.

This is NOT a scam. If someone sends a text message to your landline, this service translates the text to a verbal message. The number given is the one you need to ring if you wish to hear the message again. It is a very helpful service!

Not a scam number, service for sending txt to landline phones but after reading a few comments I think the providers should check the system / software for problems and repair / update the system or something on them lines. I received a call from this number today and call went to answer machine which said I had 2 msgs and repeated the same message twice (problem),I knew the person sending the txt and they had sent only 1 the previous day, so 24 hrs or more late (problem) and the auto voice not clear and hard to understand properly (problem). I know the orig txt sent to me ended 'love barb' but the auto voice said 'love box' !!! Could this be a voice recognition problem and could this problem be adding to the number of txt going to wrong numbers, I don't know. Any experts out there who can comment.

Had 2 calls in quick succession around 1.30 a.m. 1st January 2016! Got out of bed and checked message left which asked me to call 07953 966066 from this number (my landline). Bloody annoyed! Didn't ring of course.

Missed this call as was out and don't have an answer phone on land line.all the comments I've looked at are from years ago so why is this number still active?

How did this company get my daughter's phone number?
And, how do I block these calls?
Obviously, I did not call the number!

It's BT's Text to Voice messaging system! Simple as! If you send a text message to a number, it gets converted to voice and delivered! Nothing sinister! Just make a note of the callers number and ring them if there's a problem. It's a genuine service!

Received a recorded message very early this morning asking me to phone this number . Actual message was very jumbled but I could just make out "Lady has died".

Thank you, that was really helpful. I now need to deal with the **ggers who keep calling me about a new boiler. They've changed their number so many times the blocked number facility on my landline if full.
