Called me like 10 minutes ago, claiming they were from BT and I hadn't payed my bill for a while, when in fact, I had just payed my bill one week ago and in the background of the call I could hear "Did they buy it?"

So yes, anyone claiming this is BT get a life, you're obviously as dumb as the scammers are :P

Yeah I had 2 missed calls from this number on my mobile this morning and there is no way it's BT how would they have my mobile number? any time they phone me it's on the landline as they wouldn't have my mobie number so it cant be BT

This number is definitely BT customer services calling from India.
I requested help with a service via email and they called me straight back to discuss it, no way they would have known why I'd emailed otherwise.

IT IS BT.

It would appear the above number (08000285085) is somehow just a 'mask' for the real number. Yes, when they call, it seems like thats the number they're calling from, but the actual number is in fact 01324451210 (obtained by using BT's Choose To Refuse service which allows you to bar the last number that called you).

However, it IS BT.

I can guarantee to you that this is a scam, they just called me demanding over £300 when my bill is infact £150 and paid by direct debit.

They have even added a false bt answer message on the line when you call it.

I just spoke with bt and they are looking into this and confirm it is a scam!

Cheeky blighters even said part of my bill was for pay per view of the spice girls ... ERM i dont think so!

This was a call from BT about merging my BT Vision account to my normal telephone account. This call was from BT.

this number is genuine I had a fault on my phone and they called me back on this number to discuss the fault

This number called me and the line was silent when I picked up the phone so I hung up immediately. They called me about 15 mins later but I pulled the hpne plug out, [***] pests.

I just had this call and rang it back with the 141 prefix.

Got the odd Recording (normally BT recordings are of a Scottish Lass in my expericence). So I rang BT direct and went through to their Nuisance Calls Department (150, Press 4, Press 2) and spoke to Julie.

She confirmed it as BT's Marketing Department calling me.

This is genuinely BT-the number repeatedly called me on my mobile this morning but when I answered there was noone there, hence why I looked up the number-but eventually last time when I answered I spoke to a gentleman named Seamus with an Irish accent, with regards to an email I sent last week, associated with the closure of a broadband account and a refund/final bill.
He apologised about the dead end calls earlier explaining that there was a problem with his handset.
He had details that only BT could possibly have known, so I am confident this has nothing to do with a scam.
I think this is an umbrella customer service number, but it is definately associated with BT.
If they are trying to get in touch with you there probably is something they need to speak to you about, but obviously exorcise caution when dealing with bank details, and ask for any requests for payment to be forwarded to you in writing/call the payments department yourselves to verify.

i am sick of these calls. ive looked up quite a few numbers on here and one of them is said to be BT (01132132002, 01422280261) but i don't have any phone line or internet with them, so i don't know how they got my number.its really starting to annoy me. they are phoning about 4-5 times a day. another number i looked for was said to be halifax (08456049441, 08000285085)

They've called me twice today and once yesterday. I didn't answer any calls. If they have something important to say they'd leave a message.

Jill is then prank caller!! I have just had the same thing happen, a call, i answer, left it for 20 secs then hung up odd.

It definately is from BT as i have called them in asked about this and they have explained thoroughly that it is one of their customer service lines and sometimes they do line checks as Lousie said, this is part of their courtesy service to ensure customers are getting the best ervice from them and i think people should cut them some slack!! they are trying to help.

This is on behalf of BT but it is from an outsourced call centre that call you up to remind you that your bill is overdue

These guys called me today - i have it plugged into my Mobile as a nuisance number, but didn't check the phone as I was rushing somehere. They said they wanted to update my details, but then asked me very open questions which they really should have more specific info to if they were from BT  ( I suggested this, and they said they don't have all the info the rest of BT has) - i can believe this! If you've ever called BT with anything other than a simple query  the database is not very connected or shared at all.!

It is still weird really as they definitly have some of my data which probably/ only BT have too, unless they've hacked or bought it..?.

When I started to get a bit impatient and query them, they also tended to say .."just one last thing..",  or "I am not trying to sell you anything..."..

When we got to "who is your broadband with" and I just answered "not BT", they wanted a more specific answer, and I said i would not give them it etc.

Then we had the "one last thing today' - and I said you keep saying that (this was the third time)  so I'm going to hang up now...and I did.   I think they are probably a really poor call centre operation, probably outsourced, and one of the reasons that BT are going down the ...

On balance I don't think they're malicious, just rubbish..  but won't be picking up the call again...

Yes this is genuinely BT - they were calling me to advise they were sending me a cheque to refund my line rental after I terminated my line with them

Def BT. They're phoning chasing me for my MAC code as current broadband provider (Orange) being seriously slow gits about sending it.
