This number is an absolute pest. Every day it calls and every day it hangs up. It is almost like having a stalker on the line!!!!! Who the hell is it??????? Why can't BT find out.

Definatly not BT and beware anyone posting on here saying it is, they are probably in on the scam. Do not give them any details whatsoever if they ring you, tell them to f*** off.

Be paranoid!!!! It helps to keep your money in your pocket.

What a load of Twaddle from Lanthanein. MY account has been credited by an amount as promised by this number and followed up in WRITING FROM BT. GET a Life!!

Said their calling from BT, would try to get hold off us again, they did ring on another time.

To Ann: If they are phoning your mobile then you can purchase software that will detect automatically cancel the call even before your phone rings.  The software will depend on your phone make/model but I suggest contacting your local shop.  I use it on my phone and have a database stored off all the scam numbers, so it comes up on screen when the number phoning is scam.  The call can then be set to block so that the ringing tone goes dead immediately to the person phoning and the call ends.

This is definately BT....  it might be telesales, service, billing, anyone - it is just a generic number that covers all BT calls.

For all the paranoid posters - why not call the number and listen to the message??????

Yes, it is a test number.  I reported a fault this morning, and this is the number BT dialled from to test the line.  So you can all relax. :D

Getting called 3-4 times by this number daily for the last month.

Is not a billing issue, I pay by direct debit and all payments have been on time, and there havent been issues with the line since it was installed last year.

Normally i wouldnt care, but the telephone they are calling is x directory, and has only ever been given to family members for emergency use only if they cannot get hold of the folks here at home on our normal landline or mobiles.

Running to answer the phone 3 times a day worried that a family member has had an accident only to find out its some spam number like this is not acceptable, and on a line on which i pay to have private and unlisted, if it is a BT or a BT  affiliate marketing scam, id be interested in persuing this as a breach of contract issue with my solicitor.

I've been getting this number & have answered it in the past. No one speaks, then it just goes dead.
So, if it is actually BT then what the hell are they playing at? It isn't a great way to conduct a business, if all they do is bombard you with silent calls, so many times a day!
I'm thinking about cancelling with them - they may take notice then that they're the reason why I'm cancelling!
I won't be answering this number again.

i just got a call from this number on my mobile phone, i didn't anwser, cause it only rang 1 sec. strange!

We keep getting this number call too but won't answer. Funny though, we're not with BT... Why would they call our ex directory number?

just called BT ... they said nothing they can do about it beside putting a pefence something onto my phoneline that was stop all kinds of marketing call even BT itself ... at first she was going to

i found it annoying why they don't actually look into the problem or fixing it instead they just put it aside for those ppl been affected ...

not to mention when u call BT they have those india/pakan guys answers the call which i barely can hear from what they saying, not being racist, but really poor english, and they actually said this to me "i am sry sir i cant understand what u saying?" i was like "what the fxxk?" ...

I've had loads of 'messages' from this number where the 'caller' just hangs up.
I rang the 0800 number back (which I'm now worried was a mistake!) and it said "this is a BT line, someone from BT is trying to contact you, they will ring back".
I rang BT (coincidentally, I have an unresolved dispute with them).
They said they have no record of anyone trying to call me !?!? But as one department often doesn't know what another is doing, I still can't be sure its not BT !!

Similar to dj boombox. Call to a mobile from this number, lasted less than a second so I didn't have the time to answer it. The mobile is nothing to do with BT.

Given the comments of others, I won't answer and/or phone this number back.

It’s BT (as of today, 29th May 2008). I was suspicious as well, I don’t think this is a good way to reach customers.

Just called BT who in turn called this number...

This IS NOT a BT number... It is a sales scam.

If a sales operator does answer it just do your best to try to sell him your 5 year old socks.

If this WAS BT , they would leave an 0845 number.

Again anyone who says this is BT is either in on the scam or simply ignorant of the truth.

I had a call from this number, it was BT customer services calling from the UK, answering a query I had about my BT account.  This is a genuine number from BT, at no point was I asked to buy anything or give any personnal information.

I have also been contacted by BT in the past and they don't always leave an 0845 number.
