- HermanMittGot a call from someone at this number (female) who then hung up without saying anything.
- ChrisI have had a call on my mobile today, I missed it. Suffice to say that I too have moved away from BT Vision recently, so that adds to what has been said by others. If it is important, they will write to you, so in the meantime store the number on your phone as "DO NOT ANSWER", then when you see it on screen, you will know instantly who it is - or not is - and not get mixed up with genuine 0800 calls.
- MikeLiterally had this number phone my landline no less than 15 times earlier today, actually woke me up. It would ring, then stop, then ring again so frequently I thought "wait for it to finally stop for at least five minutes and dial 1471". Came up as 08000 285 085. Googled the number and arrived here. Been reading through the comments and quite a few people appear to have had the same thing as me: persistant phonecalls from this number. It's making me wonder if I should wait and dial 1471 everytime I get a phonecall.
My advice is (if you ARE with BT) to simply look at your latest BT bill and contact them from the information on there. Either that or continue ignoring the phonecalls; if it's so important BT will send you a letter. - ClareThis number called me twice today after I had a rather heated conversation with a useless customer services respresentative from BT. There was no one there when I answered, but I was on hold. The first time the 'on hold' message said thank you for calling Britania. The second time they called it said thank you for calling the East Midlands Contraception service! I have no idea what they're playing at, but BT are getting a complaint from me. Useless, the lot of them.
- SuzanneThis seems to be a genuine number from BT. This is the number I have been called from each time they are replying to a query I have sent them via e-mail. I agree it is incredibly irritating that they seem to call as and when they like, but none the less it does seem genuine. And they do ignore that I request each time to be contacted back via e-mail but thats a different issue altogether!
I can understand people being cautious, but if you are concerned, ask exactly where they are calling from (i.e. office/dept) and call them back on a general number and ask to be put through.- Caller: BT
- PeterI had a missed call from this number today.
It was BT calling me back about a complaint I had sent them.
They haven't solved my complaint, but it was definitely BT.- Caller: BT
- MarkWould you like to win a holiday recorded message. Unbelievable and unacceptable that even though I pay extortianate prices for a landline BT still seem happy to bombard me in my own home with advertisments.
- julie lanethis number keeps ringing me and not speaking 4 or 5 times a day im sick of it and ignore my phone so have to do 1471 to check if its someone i know and ring them back, its costing me a packet
- mr PipIt seems to me that this number calling can read into BTs' emails and retrieve your details, which gives them there disguise as being BT. i RECKON the comments being made saying its BT, are people working with the scammers or people not smart enough to understand its scammers on the otherside of the line.
- DarleneI just got a call from this number - it was BT. i had sent them an email asking if i could change my Direct Debit date . . . nothing sinister on my part . . . they weren't English speaking so maybe the call centre doubles up as something else perhaps??
- Caller: BT
- nicolaHang up on them!! Do not give them any details! i think they are marketing scammers trying to get as much information as possible.
Asking if we were going to change our number soon (??) who my mobile was through, when the contract ends, who my internet was with etc..
they say they are BT but they are not. I played dumb and said i didnt know the answers to her questions, she asked my name and i made one up.. if i get any calls asking for that name i will know its them again..
Also i had a call last week saying they were from BT and that they had put a £5 credit on my account, all i had to do was connect to a link they emailed through to me and click on a confirm button online.
DO NOT DO IT! IT PUTS YOU IN A 12 MONTH CONTRACT WITH A COMPANY THAT IS NOT BT AND YOU HAVE TO AGREE TO A MIN SPEND! i can imagine that it would be very difficult to get out of. They say they are BT affilliated but i dont for one minute believe that.- Caller: said BT but they are not
- Gilbert GosseynSomeone sad...

I know its good to be cautious, but there is a lot of stupid scaremongering on here. Of course you can get out of ANY contract you're TRICKED into. Simply stop paying, if (highly unlikely) they take you to court for non-payment, explain the circumstances surrounding the trickery and hey presto, you're OK.

If you're going to make a comment, please make sure it at least passes the du'hur! test. "Imagining" something doesn't make it a fact. - DrunkenTypistI have had a call from this number - it is BT and in this instance it concerned a query regarding my phone bill.
- Caller: BritishTelecom
- NeoI got one this morning, they were saying they needed a laptop repaired (I'm a PC engineer), so it's not BT, I got a name, mobile and address from this call and will pop round to the address they have gave me and see if the information they provided is legit. Let let you all know the outcome later.
- Caller: Not Given
- daveyI would imagine it's BT for me.. i emailed last night stating i was moving and wanted to close my account. Of course i ticked the 'how do you want to be contacted' box and put 'email' as i haven't got time to go through questions trying to tempt me back to them.
BT have always been a pain tho and every so often start ringing to get my to sign up to broadband etc. One of the reason i am changing provider! - SteveWell our bill is pinned to the wall, only received on 25 August, demanding payment by 29 August..
Listening to the answer phone message, an engaged line tone......WTF??? - MengI called BT yesterday to get out of the contract that's expiring in 3 days. They did take my mobile number at the time. This 0800 number came up twice today but nobody talked at all, so I just hang up -_-
- Caller: BT??
- markyes its bt, trying to chase for an outstanding balance. simply just order a new line and telephone number in you name but change one of the letters and hey presto you dont have an outstanding balance, if you get any letters return them to sender
