I just had a call from that number and it was a followup on a line fault that I was having and to let me know a change of appointment for the engineer. So looks like it is a genuine customer service number to me?

company said they were B T  wanting to change my BT vision plug & broadband plug (the big adapter with flashing green & red lights ) engineer would call accompanied by plug manufactor person.for taking the time & trouble BT would reward me by crediting my account with £50.i agreed to this free offer & moreso with getting £50 put into my account. i got the call this tue. 26/10/10 & they said someone could do the job thur.28/10/10 & offered me various time slots, i agreed on between 1100 & 1400. wanting to go out i rang BT at 1600 asking were the engineer was, who was doing the job for me?? after 3 calls & many operators in INDIA..... i was told that this call was in fact a prank!!! the number that rang me is a BT number,BT are well aware of these calls. there has been hundreds of complaints what is BT going to do about it.or do we have to go to the POLICE.

An automated message arrived this week, it didn't say it was from BT but left a long message when the caller is supposed to identify themselves (as opposed to leaving a proper message). "If you are authorised to act on behalf of the account holded, press 2".  The TrueCall unit intercepted this call and thankfully no follow up calls since.  That said, twice a day for a week [***] from india would be calling from this number at the beginning of this year so I hope this is not going to be repeated.

Very alarming and unprofessional if it is BT - then again, BT are not exactly professional and neither are the scum they have in the indian call centres who are nothing but trouble.

I believe this is a genuine BT number - that is being abused by BT.  They are also pestering us to take Broadband from their plusnet subsiduary by the unlawful use of our personal information in junk mail, we have been on the MPS list for a few years so further proof that BT cannot be trusted.

These also rang me not only on my house phone but my mobile also
They turned out to be legit however
I emailed them yesturday complaining they had taken £49:50 out my bank when in-fact i was on a payment holiday till jan 1st 2011 because i was over £200 in credit!
They tried to ring me to discuss it and as i didn't answer the number they emailed me to say they were refunding me £74:69 lol
So they are BT not any other scammers going about

Just had a call from this number. I automatically put the phone down if somebody rings on business and fails to introduce themselves straight away. Dialled 1471, checked this page then went on to check my email. It was a follow-up to the call from a woman at BT dealing with an issue I had regarding them sending me emails stationg I was near my download limit on Total Broadband Option 1 even though I had upgraded to the unlimited 3. However, when I sent in the complaint via their website, I did state that I wanted an email response.

BUSINESS CALLERS: Introduce yourselves immediately, please (unless thereis some genuine security issue). I always did when ringing customers- a bit of old-fashioned courtesy goes a long way!

I got a call from 08000 285 985 today, some guy said he was from Windows and they had detected we had a serious trojan or virus or something. As laptop is in the repair shop getting a new screen  (using sons today!) its obviously a scammer. I told him this before he could try and get any details or try and sell me something, then I hung up. They've rung three times since though, so it's really annoying!!

I sent an email to BT yesterday asking about cancellation. I opted for them to contact via email. I had a missed call from this number today so checked this site and from reading a lot of posts I was still unsure it was BT. However I have just checked my emails and they have responded starting with how they had tried to call... so it is BT.

Alway pay my BT bill ontime but this time their payment website has been screwed up for the best part of a week, so this time its their fault its a couple of days late.

Day after the "due" date (which isnt really and BT should stop calling it that!) I started getting calls from this number, always either silent, hangs up after 3 rings, some automated crap system asking for details or leaves some incomprehensible noise on my answer service.

So much for BT "keeping us connected" with a sham system like this in place.

Can confirm it's BT. Had sent them an email today to re-instate caller display (which had ceased to work - long story!). Got an email shortly after an unanswered call from that number to say they'd phoned (despite asking for email response! only), and have re-instated CD as requested.

I get calls from this number about 20 times a day. I had checked the number online and found this and many other sites warning not to answer. It is getting annoying and they don't care what time it is.

I contacted BT by e-mail to report a fault on my BT broadband hub.
Later on I received a call from 08000285085 on my mobile, though I requested for them to contact me on my landline.
So wasn't sure what the number was, until I checked on this website and was confirmed it was BT.
Today I received this call again on my mobile and answered it and indeed it was BT sending a new updated BT broadband Hub.

My bedroom phone has bleeped at 1 am for the past three nights, waking us up. When I pick up the handset it continues to bleep from the phone base. It stops after about 30 seconds. I did 1471 yesterday and got 08000285085. BT tell me it is not one of their numbers. They say there is no fault on my line but want to send out an engineer to check the wiring at a cost). But if it was a wiring fault why would it bleep at 1 am every morning and not at other times?
