Claimed to be BT but were unable to pronounce 'Ian' as my name, so clearly not a call from a UK call centre! I hung up when they asked me to spell it!!

The Number 08000285085 is a automated call from BT letting me know my phone line is now reconnected and no further action is required

Yes, they asked me to spell 'Way' and what county London is in.

This is a genuine BT (British Telecom) phone number. I have received calls from them which I have been expecting and I have been able to validate their number.

100% deffo its BT and they gave me a big refund :)

That number calls me all the time! This week alone they have called me 4 of 5 times. Sometimes they call twice a day! I don't know what to do, I want to pick up to tell them to stop calling because they dont get the message when I hang up on them

I just got a missed call from this number on my mobile (which BT dont have)

I rang it back, and got an automated response saying that BT tried to call me, and they will try again if they need to.  

If it is BT, why don't they leave a message?  Very poor communications for what is supposed to be a telecommunications company!

From reading earlier comments, I'm guessing BT do use this number, but its also used by some of their 'carefully selected third parties'!

I would treat anyone who writes that this number is genuine and they got a big refund, or a new home hub, etc as very suspicious. I think those people actually work for this bogus company. I have just checked with BT and the number does not exist on any of their databases, and there was no record on my account of anyone from BT contacting me. Please go with the majority on this one, because if this number belongs to BT, then I'm a Dutchman.

Its from bt when you choose to give them feedback after you call to them, to find out whether their customer service employees are doing their job.

just had this number call me, its bt broadband, which is probably valid as i have recently had broadband trouble and when i rung bt they informed me newcastle would be sorting it, and it was a geordie accent who rang

This is a genuine BT number. They called me after I lodged a complaint with them. They were actually very helpful.

This is a genuine number. It is the number they call you from after you leave a message or query using their online form. I'm not sure who you spoke to from BT  but they obviously don't have all the numbers they use on record!

7 (Seven) calls today (weds 22nd Dec 2010) so far. Pick it up. No-one there.

I havre been called several times and had messages left to call them back.I called BT,  to check up on this number and they said it isnt them and there wasnt a problem with my bill,as the caller stated!!! I hadnt been charged for broadband twice!! I never answered the call but may do next time they call to tell them what I think of them!

I had reported a fault with my BT line and they called today from this number just to give me
an update on the fault, so for a change it was a genuine call.

I can confirm it's BT.  I emailed them yesterday to cancel an order I had placed with them.  They emailed me saying they had tried to contact me, and that the order was cancelled.

Like Alex I emailed them late the day before yesterday to cancel my landline and I got this number calling me tday. Didn't pick up but now after reading these comments I'll answer next time just to see if it's genuine. Will post results here ( ^_^ )

....And just like clockwork I just received an email seconds after posting my last comment. It was from BT saying they just tried calling me but got no answer, they had all my relevant details including the dates my lines were connected (which I didn't even put in my email). So I'm convinced that it's genuine,

People that get no one on the other end are probably getting automated calls with no staff available. My number isn't listed with them either, but if you ever ordered anything from them (router, modem, bt vision box) then you probably did give them your number.

And those that think cos they couldn't pronounce Ian that it's fake, take a look at yourselves... bet you've been to spain doesn't mean you can pronounce Jose... "Ho-say" not "Joe-say"
