- GeorgeGot a call on my land line which I ignored, and a few seconds later got one on my mobile from the same number. The guy said he was ringing me to tell me I must pay my BT Bill. I told him that I hadn't received a bill as it would have been paid. He then said you can pay it now over the phone, I told him to go and do one. He then said we sent a bill by post, I replied that I always get billed by email, not by post. He then asked for my email address, I told him that if he was BT he should already have it, and I then proceeded to tell him that I keep all my emails in a BT file, on my email front page, and the last bill received was in September, which I paid. Surprisingly he hung up !! Sod off springs to mind !!!! (I must create a File for [***])
- ben brown0800 028 50585 I get calls from this number every day. I answer it but there's no-one there. I'm not a BT customer so not sure what's going on. Can anyone help or advise please
- Caller: not sure
- coolforgotWe must feel sorry for these desperate mugs, who are running out of time trying to scam people, who are slowly becoming aware of all the cons out there, the perpetrators must know they're on a losing path & are desperate at the prospect of finding a proper job, once these cheap scams dissapear, but then no-one will want to employ an ex-MUG

- ArthurIt is definitely BT. They helped me with a written question that I had submitted about my broadband. However, that is not to say that some scammers could use this number too. Only the one endinf in 085 is genuinely BT.

- John| 2 repliesHad a call from this number earlier today with some 'thick' sounding male saying "Hello, Mr <incorrect surname>". I was absolutely silent, allowed him to repeat the wrong name several more times before I hung up.
A lot of people on this list say it's BT. If it is they must be employing the bottom of the gene pool at the moment.
It could be a scam. Be aware and don't give them any info. Addressing someone by their wrong name is the start of someone asking for your real name. Each piece of information you give them will help them piece together enough to duplicate your identity...be aware when taking this call...- Caller: Uknown
- John replies to John...and to clarify, the number calling was 0800 028 5085
- GordonSo why would BT call me? I've not been a customer of theirs for over 18 years now.
Overseas call centres are cloning numbers like this and saying they are a genuine company, when they are not.
If, like me, you don't trust them, hang up and call the company who they say they called from.- Caller: NOT BT

- SJJust ignored a call from this number. They left a message saying that 'They thought I would like to know that I have £143 outstanding on my BT accounts and if I dont pay it they will suspend my services'............................................................ I DONT HAVE A BT ACCOUNT!
- Caller: BT?
- jjJust had recorded message from this number claiming to be BT.
I rang BT and it is not them its Lilly they are either trying to get you to give out info or they get you to press a key and then it will debit your account for the cost of a call.............- Caller: Claimes BT - its not

- Patinge replies to June DaltonSame thing for me this morning. Caller gave his name as KUMAR. Claimed to be calling about a "scam" call on-line chat I had with BT on 26 September 2013. Gave his own callback number as 0800 800 150 (you try tracking down a Kumar on that general BT enquiries number). When I said I was still waiting for a response to my e-mail confirmation to BT about a scam I wanted reported to the police, said he would put me through to the Customer Option Team. Told him to get the COT to call me instead. He instantly hung up. Needless to say no call has come from COT (what a surprise). 1471 confirmed caller's number as 0800 028 5085. I am adding my warning to all the others. Keep cool, get caller's name, get caller's number from him and do NOT agree to be "put through" to anyone else. Then check via 1471. Hope this helps.
- MartynHad a few calls from this number but I always got hung up on. Answered it tonight and they said they were from BT direct debit department and was asked to confirm my address. I refused and she said to call BT customer services. I did and they confirmed it is BT that called. Though she had no idea why though.
- Caller: BT
- Martyn replies to JohnIt 'could be a scam' but it isnt. I called bt up and they confirmed it was them.
- mr t groutthis number keeps ringing then goes dead when I answer
- KATY BI had five calls from this number,in quick succesion ,and each time they hung up when I answered. When I phoned back,I got a recorded message claiming they were from BT,saying they had tried to phone but there was no answer (rubbish) and they would try and call again .I have no idea who they really are and as I have BT preference on my phone , I don't know why these calls keep getting through.
- Caller: claims to be BT
- coolcat4 times today I was called from this number, a BT survey asking how satisfied am I with their service and would i recommend to a friend. No, not satisfied, no won't recommed to a friend.

- Caller: unidentified
- KateI work for BT but currently on maternity leave. Just had a call from this number and missed it, but they left a voicemail and it was my manager from work calling to see how I am. It's definitely a BT number. Still wouldn't advise giving any personal details on an incoming call, if you are unsure call 0800800150 and speak to a customer service advisor.
- Caller: Bt
- GordonAs with many others, I am not a BT customer, do not have any BT services, have not been stupid enough to give my home number in any surverys and will happily ignore this number every time it calls.
If someone wishes to contact me for a genuine reason they can write. It's far too easy for scammers to spoof numbers, they are even using genuine ones. I don't have time to waste on them.- Caller: NOT BT
