- HL replies to RogerJust had a call from this number. Very strange conversation went like this:
ME - "Hello, xxxx xxxxxx speaking"
CALLER - "I am calling from BT"

CALLER - "I am calling from BT"
ME - "Yes" [definitely suspicious now]
CALLER - "Just calling to see if your email is OK"
ME - "Yes it is fine thanks"
CALLER - [pause] .... "OK that is all" - AnonymHave them loads for weeks call after call since going with talk talk never had bt and dont Intend to..harrasers that need stopping..
- Caller: bt
- Call type: Telemarketer
- S replies to RogerThe answer is, it's BT and....it's not BT....both.
It's BT that shows this number when calling you but others have been showing that number to mask themselves and pretend to be BT,l the I've having false number plates on a car.
Nothing BT can do to stop them, sadly. - ChrisI received a call from this number shortly after a call I made to BT on their standard 0800800150 number and it was the same person I had spoken to earlier following up on the call I made, so yes this is most definitely a BT number.
- Caller: BT
- PavelNuisance call
- CharlieCame to my mobile 12 April 2015 - I didn't answer it and it eventually hung up - no answerphone message left
Is anyone doing anything about this number? - according to this website, it has been in use for several years - DazHad a call from this number today, accent sounded quite American, called said they were from BT (I have recently left BT) there was a pause before the person spoke to me asking "may I speak with (my name)" to which I told them the CORRECT ENglish is "Please can I talk to" then they repeated "may I speak with Mr blah blah" and eventually they said "Can I speak to" and I congratulated them for getting a 4 word sentence correct.
- AngelaApparently I text messaged this number one afternoon to tell them that I was driving and would call them back later. Extremely puzzled as I was with my husband working at that time, therefore certainly not driving and I did not send that message. How did that happen and has anyone had a similar experience?
- David| 1 replyThis number is bt credit referrals and genuine if you have recently applied for a mobile or landline account or poss your bill is overdue
- Caller: Bt
- Mansell replies to DavidSo why would they be calling me? My BT bills are paid by Direct Debit, and I haven't applied for anything.
- littlepeteThis is BT but it's currently the number for their BT trials team. I am a member of BT trials and they have just contacted me on this number in relation to a trial I am currently undertaking so I'm not sure why others perceive this as a nuisance call when for me, it's actually a real and useful number...
- Caller: BT Trials Team
- CancuniaLooks like this has been going on for a while. I was called from this number today twice within 5 mins on my mobile which has nothing to do with BT. From reading further up the thread, maybe someone is using the 08000285085 number as their caller ID, pretending to be BT. Perhaps littlepete from BT trials could help get the scam investigated?
- Gillian FisherJust had a call from this number, a very foreign sounding lady purporting to be from B.T. and who knew my name. As I am in the process of moving from B.T. to Plusnet (owned by B.T. but much cheaper!) I wasn't sure if it was genuine or not. When she immediately asked me for my address as a security check, I was pretty sure it was a scam, so told her that B.T.knows my address and can contact me by email if necessary, then hung up.
- JudithIt's BT. They wanted to check some details regarding a service I'd just signed up for, and had all of the relevant information I'd provided in the application.
- Caller: BT
- KellyI have been getting phone calls fro this number for weeks. I answered one and they claimed to be BT sport. They said that my direct debit had failed and they want payment before you put the phone down or they will cut off my service. Funny thing is my mother in law pays for this service and her direct debit has never failed. When I asked why had it failed ie insufficient funds, the guy told me to stop asking questions and just pay. The amount that they told me was a hell of a lot more than BT sports cost. I told him I wouldring back. When I tried to phone back the call wouldn't connect. And spoke to BT and they have no knowledge of this call being made and say that my account is up to date and my direct debit has never failed.
- Caller: Apparently BT sports
- Charlie| 1 replyGot a call from this number saying they were from BT and my DD payment didn't go through - they then demanded a card payment straight away - Luckily I just received my BT bill & it was sitting on my desk confirming DD payment. I called BT and they had no records about this call!
Initially they were very convincing so be very careful - never give out you details or make money payment - hang up and contact you service provider to unvestigate!!- Caller: Allegedly BT
- CharlieSo much for Data Protection guys - looks like all our personal details have either been sold off on or stolen! What's new?
Perhaps BT ought to take this fraudulant activity more seriously and start investigating - NOW!!
The reality is paying by DD is like handing your wallet or purse over to a stranger so they can help themselves!
You woyldn't really do that would you? - Robbie replies to CharlieI have absolutely no confidence in the ability or willingness of BT to get off its proverbial fat corporate backside & focus on customer service - profit or staff bonuses rule the roost - I've been promised response to simple complaint within 24 hours but the clock is still ticking after NINE days. Pathetic doesn't describe it!!!!!!
- Joe| 2 repliesI got a phone call from this number acting to speak to me and she is from BT and wanting to set up DD ( as I haven't got BT but virging) I had to stop her and ask her again where is she calling from she said BT then I said is BP or BT check your screen she hanged up.. I phoned the BT customer services and said that the number don't belong to them and it is fraud ..I said what the BT is going to do about it? He replied that I have to be careful not to give my details on the phone to anybody ...BT stinks
- MansellPart of the problem is that BT uses call centres in India, and, as has been uncovered at least once on TV, these centres are happy to sell your credit card numbers on to third parties so obtaining customers' phone numbers should be even easier.
