24 June 08 - received call on mobile from this number; claimed to be Barclays, but they called my by a name I don't use.  Told them I didn't discuss my business over the phone.

Got call from person purporting to be from Barclays bank.  Wanted to check my security details.  I responded by saying I didn't want to speak to them and put phone down.

Had one of these months ago, now a couple in the last week when I've not been at home.

I used to get about 6 of these call every day! (It is Barclays, call them back and you get a recorded message) I complained to Barclays (no reply by the way) and the calls stopped- for 2 weeks- now they have started again-4 today and yesterday. Nobody there if I pick up so whats the point?

Have received two silent calls from this number today both at around mid-day - the second of which blocked my phone for about 10 minutes. Be very wary, from the comments above I have no doubt this is a scam to get personal details to enable the scamsters to get hold of your bank account. Any reputable bank would not ask for your personal password or PIN information in either this way or via an Email.

Hi everyone! It seems that there is nothing to worry about... I have phoned Barclays today and they confirmed that they DO have a call center in Sunderland (this is what the lady who called me the last time said) and they simply carry on an advertising campaign. Of course... it is better to remain aloof and do not reveal too much of your personal details or say that you don't make business on the phone (as I will do next time):) Cheers!

Just recieved a call from this number. There was a few seconds delay from me picking up the phone before the bloke on the other end asks for 'John Smith'. I hung up.

How do we know that the positive comments on here aren't from the scammers themselves, trying to reassure everyone it's all fine?!  Why do Barclays have nothing on their site about this number?

Call from this number today. They asked for me by name, and claimed to be from Barclays.My immediate response was to say I never discuss personal details of this nature by phone. I would urge everyone else to do likewise. I am a Barclays account holder. Reading all the comments here- I am under the impression that this is a pathetic marketing plan by Barclays - disgraceful for a bank of this stature if that is so. Any more calls like this, and I will register a complaint - then I will move my account. Maybe if we all responded like this, we can stop this appalling behaviour.

its barclays bank offering updates on ur account and seein if ur happy with the service, also tryin to get u to upgrade ur account just say no ur happy then they leave u alone. best off answering it though cause they keep on ringin u till they get through

received a call today at 15:10 from this number, they hung-up.

Oooh, "Barclays" caleed me again today, apparently wanting to follow up a conversation I had had with one of their personal bankers about 200 miles from where I live (completely wrong, but this worried me and he wouldn't tell me any more without my DOB etc which I refused to give him).  He gave me his staff number and he told me he worked at the Sunderland call centre mentioned above and suggested I check this with the local branch.    

I gave telephone banking a call and a surprisingly cheerful and helpful lady in Mumbai (or wherever Barclays have their call centre) could find no record of this alleged conversation with the personal banker and marked my account to say I had no intention of buying life assurance/getting a loan etc.

The number does seem to be Barclays, but they are just cold calling.

Called about 20 minutes ago, ignored the call and checked it on here. If they phone again I'll tell them where to go..

Hi, ditto, just got a missed call on my mobile, was worried about mobile scams and googled the number to reach here. Surprising, if its Barclays, as the whole thing does sound,smell, feel a tad shady! Anyways, I have deletd the number for now, just the accidental risk of redial by me and will certainly call back on the advertised barclays number rather than communicate with anyone claiming to be barclays staff on the other end. Cheers guys, this just goes to show, how important its for us all to share these with each other. FOREWARNED IS FOREARMED!

Have received a call from 0800 0852652 a foreign sounding gentleman asked for someone who i dont know, wouldnt identify themselves. hung up when i said that person doesent live here. googled this number and got all this info!!! very strange!!!

Just got a call from this number. I have been registered with TPS and have clearly told Barclays I do not want any marketing calls, but already got one marketing call from them after I transferred some funds over the phone - it seems that whenever you deal with them you have to insist that they do not change the entry in their files that says you are not interested in marketing. This call seemed especially dodgy because this person insisted that I've got a card which has been recently cancelled! Tried to ring Barclays now but the line is not working "due to a technical fault".

This number called me last night on my mobile but I couldn't answer as I was driving and wasn't plugged in.  Googled the number this morning, interesting reading as I don't have a Barclays account.  The only thing I can think is that I used to have a Woolwich one and now they are all the same.  But I closed that 18months ago.

I'm deaf so all calls go to the answer machine until my wife gets in from work. I've been getting calls from this number for over a year now, they come in fits and starts from no calls for a month or so to about a dozen times a week! My wife once phoned the number back, a gentleman with a strong foreign accent (My wife thought perhaps from India) asked if I was in, when she informed him I was deaf he just hung up.

If this is indeed an oversea call centre acting on behalf of Barclays, lets hope that the operators honesty has been better checked out than their customer service skills!?
