Report a phone call from 08000852652 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- Paul| 3 repliesYou guys need to stop being such paranoid fools, it's a legitimate Barclays Bank number.
If you'd have BOTHERED to continue the call, you'd have found out that after you give the last two letters + DOB, they tell YOU YOUR account number/sort code and can even say what goes in/what goes out of the account, when and when you last paid something in and how much is in there now.
It's a legitimate call, stop having a fit over it and get out of your paranoid delusions that everyone is trying to scam you, it's not all about you, you know?- Caller: Barclays

- ChrisI got a call today from this number - same as all the other people here - asked for DOB said they were from Barclays and had an accent i would guess from India?
I am quite shocked about how long this has been going on for/??? Barclays seems to give a d**n and have done nothing (people on this forum have complained since 2007??) while what seems like employees of theirs try to phish and potentially rip customers off. its extraordinary.... i am gob smacked.
Barclays are accountable for this obviously and i wish something could be done about this legally because they aught to be sued.
i did give the guy a DOB - 25th Dec 2011BC - not best pleased. hung up. - Chris replies to Paul| 1 replySo why do they hang up when you ask what it is regarding and why do they call at 11PM at night?
PARANOID>??? no of course not. And who might YOU be??? - Paul replies to ChrisI'm a standard College student with a basic account with Barclays because I don't need anything else.
The difference with me is I have an ounce of common sense without treating everything like it's out to get me, it's not all about you.
The reason they hang up when you ask "What does this regard" is because the person on the other end thinks "Oh great, another paranoid idiot who thinks with just a DOB and the last 2 letters of their Mother's maiden name that someone will impersonate them and steal all their money and belongings", not only that but some of the callers may be Indian and may not excel at the English language meaning they can't really explain it very well but they can read from the script they get given for the call.
As for 11PM at night? I'd assume because some of the call centres are in India which makes them call at 4am IST and I'm sure they work through the night to be able to call all of the customers.
However, the person who called me was a lovely English woman who asked me if I wanted her to upgrade my account to the next stage up and even told me how much I put in my account a few days before which hadn't even cleared yet.
Get a grip guys. - marthagot a call today. didn't sound real, but said they will call me back tomorrow
- stevewell if this is barclays id be interested to know why theyd be calling me and how they got my number. ive never had an account with them, never applied for one, hell probably never been into a barclays branch. it seems a very unprofessional way of contacting customers to me, so forgive me but i shan't be answering the call should they continue to ring as they have for a week or so now
- MarcinI do not care if they call from barclays or others. If I would like to buy something I will call them or go to branch.
Some people will do anything to get money out of your pocket. This kind of sell politics is worst possible.
Hate spam in any kind. Thats why this number is going to my blocked list.- Call type: Telemarketer
- beware-beware08000852652, just got this phone call, she claimed calling from Barclays, she got very good telephone manner, I refused to go on, then she changed her strategy: she said he need to confirm security of my account, asking my date of birth.
I said:" oh, no.."
I'm lucky today!
The telephone number confused me, I even thought she might calling from Barclays. - PercyIf this is Barclays........ I closed my account last week - they are going the wrong way about me even considering to change my mind.
When I answered they hung up on me!!!
I suppose that's just about right re their customer service- Caller: Barclays
- BroadbentWe have just received a call from this number, purporting to be Barclays bank offering to review our account requirements and asking for our telephone password

- ReueCall from Barclays attempting to sell loans or credit cards i expect.
Very polite and well spoken but asking for security details to 'confirm' who I was. Told him I wasnt prepared to give that out over the phone to someone who has called me and if he can direct me to where on the barclays website their number is i'd be happy to call them back.
He insisted he needed my details for security checks so I assured him I wasnt going to give them out over the phone and we parted ways.- Caller: Barlcyas

- sammyIt looks like they are still at it years on as I had a call from this number today but didn't answer, as in the past I have said " I will come into the local branch to go through the updates and YOU should know better than most, not to be encouraging your customers to discuss personal details on the phone, so don't call me again" but they still do!!!!!!!!!!
- Caller: BARCLAYS
- AntispamI have two calls from this number this week. I have never had anything to do with Barclays.
If you think people are being paranoid that is your opinion but at the very least it's a bloody nuisance. - unityi had a call from this number this evening. A well spoken man claiming to be from barclays bank accounts review. He asked me to confirm my identity by giving him the last 8 digets of my account number and any 2 random numbers of my sort code. I had to laugh and told him that i would never give out those details over the phone. He said he appreciated my concern but could i give him the details. I said that if it's is important i will go to the bank in person and then i terminated the call. Even if this call is genuine i think Barclays are being irresponsable in asking you just to expect some random caller to be the real deal. I will eventually go to my own bank to check it out.

- master"G"liam replies to zara lindaHAHAHAHAHA i work at a barclays call centre in outbound and
A) we are open till 8oclock
B) that IS our number
C) we dont ask for sort codes and account numbers... we ask for the ladt 2 letters of your mothers maiden name and your d.o.b
D) we have call centres in india, but we have 6 here in england as well
so check your facts before trying to act like a smart [***]! and btw, i highly doubt you spoke to our fraud prevention team because of that blatant lie you told about them not knowing anything about that number... idiot. - Philbojeez, i wonder why such an argument has come about
I've just received this call for the first time, and usually I am very careful with my details, and yes, I can admit to having been quite paranoid in the past...
Today though, they called and asked for me, wanted me to confirm my DOB and last 2 letters of my mother's maiden name, which is fair enough, yes it's a personal detail, but with just a DOB the most they can really do is wish you a happy birthday if they choose to speak to you on it, nothing else
he started talking (yes in a very clear english accent) about my account, he was asking for further details which i only gave incomplete, and he completed them for me which confirmed that this may be genuine
I actually became interested in the application he was offering so thought i might give it a go, whent through the application but unfortunately my phonecall got cut off partway through somehow, I tried calling the number back, but it gave no alternative and didn't connect to any operator. So I called barclays on 08457555555 and asked about this. I was transferred through to the BarclayCard team, and they informed me that an application has been completed in my name only a few minutes ago.
Yes this is genuine. I wanted to try and get to speak to the person that called me in the first place, but never got to... Nice man
Yes there are going to be foreign call centres, and yes there are english call centres, and have many people ever thought that there could be the ever so slight possibility that there could be foreign people working in the english call centre?
I used to work in a call centre where we called retail shops, I had one person who didn't want to take the risk of accepting my call as it actually had our local number on caller ID, I know some companies can show local, 0800, 0845 or 0870 numbers. He called the company back and had his call transferred directly to me, so no, the caller ID can not denote the genuineness of a call, never has, never will work like that...
Also, I used to work for a much larger call centre which was open 24 hours in some departments, and if the inbound sales desk was open 6AM - 10PM, then the outbound call centre could also be open between the same times, or even wider. Times of calls doesn't mean a thing either!
Lastly, the larger call centre I worked for was a larger credit card company, including credit card accounts for A&L and ABBEY. Abbey did move their credit cards to the santander group, but my point in saying this is that if barclays own fraud team didn't recognise 08000852652, there could be the possibility that BARCLAYCARD's fraud team would recognise it. Some credit cards are their own companies/groups' products and have little to do with the bank accounts side of things themselves. Some do, many don't.
Not saying that it isn't clever to be protective over your own information, but the only reason I would evade calls like these is if i didn't want the product I was being sold.
Go figure, goodnight world!- Caller: BarclayCard
