Report a phone call from 08000852652 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- Anonymous| 9 repliesReceived a call today from this number claiming to want to speak about changes to our Barclays Business bank account. Advised him that the person he needed to speak to was out of the office and suggested he called back another time. He left his name - Martin Conroy. I was immediately suspicious as no respectable bank would phone a business customer to discuss changes. I googled the name Martin Conroy and found a presence on Linkedin. There was a connection with Barclays but looked more to do with fund raising than anything else. I put the number on Choose to Refuse. The number that was actually calling was 0114 2908946, delivered over the 08000 number. I think this is a completely bogus caller, probably not even who he said he was. DO NOT BE TAKEN IN BY THIS CALLER!!
- Caller: Barclays Business
- bb worker replies to Anonymous| 8 repliesi actually work with Martin Conroy and can tell u 100% genuine.
he worked on Barclays Business and not sure where he is in the business now.
also if u put the number into Barclays website it is genuine. - Anonymous replies to bb worker| 7 repliesHave received the same call again today, only this time the person said his name was Andy Graham. Caller display showed the same 08000 number, but the number calling was 0115 851 8049. If this really is Barclays then they are playing a stupid and dangerous game. Too many people are being pestered and duped by bogus callers, no wonder we are suspicious when unsolicited calls are received. Have put this number on Choose to Refuse.
- bb worker replies to Anonymous| 6 repliesGood old scotty Andy Graham
may i ask how it is stupid and dangerous?? clearly you are a business from your last comment so could be a number of reasons we are calling.
change to business managers?
price on the account?
to change the account?
i don't know what campaign they are on now but clearly if they are calling it must be beneficial. - Anonymous replies to bb worker| 5 repliesYou clearly haven't read the whole of my comment. Stupid and dangerous because people are being constantly warned against scam and bogus callers, particularly relating to bank account details and still they fall for the banter. Personally I would never ever speak to anyone on the phone from a cold call regarding my banking, business or otherwise. Why would Barclays want to approach a business in this way rather than writing? If they have something to say then put it in writing. They have our business address, we have been banking with them for 25 years on a business basis and much longer than that as private individuals. Oh, nearly forgot, always in the black, never in the red. Maybe its time to switch.
- Nan replies to Anonymous| 3 repliesYou are right in what you say. Only a few weeks ago it was on the news that a new scam has hit our shores after running for a couple of years in the USA and Canada. It seems that some of the scammers have found a way to spoof GENUINE bank telephone numbers. The advice from the Police was never to give any information to anyone claiming to be from yhour bank. You should also never ring them back immediately on the same 'phone as they don't hang up and you only get straight back through to them!. The advice is to 'phone your bank from another 'phone or, if you can't do that, then unplug your landline and wait five or ten minutes. Then plug it back in and 'phone the bank on a number you know.
- bb worker replies to Anonymousyou do know we never ask for bank details??
And that's fine if you personally don't speak to anyone but thousands of other businesses do!
most businesses prefer us to call them also think of the amount of junk mail received if something is important could just get thrown away!
I don't get the comment about always in the black what has that got to do with it??? - bb worker replies to Nan| 2 repliesAnd i agree never give out details relating to your bank e.g sort code, account number, long card number. that would be just idiotic!!
- mikaI think I just got scammed...they got my wife on the phone and they installed ammyy on my machine...be awere
- phillie replies to Billi got called by this number today i wouldn't give out any information wouldnt even confirm my name to them . i actually rung Barclay's afterwards and asked them if this was a number associated with them and they told me no, so i think its fraud and ive reported the number to the police.
- DeannaAutomated call from Barclays that gave my surname. It hung up while I was taking a note of the number while it asked me confirm I was the person mentioned.
- Caller: Barclays
- Mish replies to bb worker| 1 replyGot called from this number just now. Caller was a female from the North East - said she was from Barclays and wanted to discuss my day-to-day banking. She asked me to confirm my D.O.B. I told her I would contact the bank if I had any banking issues. She thanked me and hung up.
- bb worker replies to Mishyeah you will find the majority of the calls are here at Sunderland, maybe the odd time Liverpool as these are the two main outbound contact centres in the UK.
At least she was polite. - Stop WorryingI have just answered a call from this number 08000852652 identifying themselves as Barclays. After giving my DOB and the last two letters of my Mothers maiden name, he proceeded to explain the benefits of the app and generally inquiring into the features of my account to ensure that I was getting the most out of it.
It was only when I had finished the call that I felt like a idiot. After looking on this site my anxiety deepened so I called Barclays.
They promptly told me that the number was a genuine outbound call and that I can opt out of call like this if I wanted.
So have no fear people.- Caller: Barclays
- Call type: Survey
- Thomas FurlongDefinitely a genuine Barclays number though I totally agree that it comes across as dodgy.
- Caller: Barclays
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Toby SCalled and answered was suspicious so I did ask them to clarify them after they said they were barclays and I asked them to confirm last digits of main number and two numbers from the sort code. It seemed fine and I went on to barclays fraud department website and entered this number and they said it was a truthful number when called back they did say they were from Barclays.
- Caller: Barclays
- Granny RGot a call from this number today. I never reply to numbers I dont recognise as anyone that legitimately want to contact me will leave a message or use otger means. I notice that there is some debate as to wether this is Barclays Bank number. I have checked against Barclays Bank list of UK telephone numbers and this is NOT one of them . Therefore is most likely a scam
- None of your business replies to anon| 2 repliesBarclays never ring up asking for your passwords and stuff. You ring Barclays to get in touch. Never give out passwords or personal details unless you make the call. If any number rings from 0800 0845 any number you don't recoknise don't answer them. Simple.
