Report a phone call from 08003289393 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- HughIt hung up when I answered, too.
- JorbeckJust had the call. Not had one for a while. Hung up on me to. However when trying to use the call bar feature by dialling 14258 it won't let me and brings the last ccall up as the one before the 'silent call'. Maybe as it is a BT feature you can't 'bar' their own calls???

- zoethis rang twice and then rang off before i had a chance to answer it soo annoying!!!
- Lesley BarchaimI have been called by this number about five times, starting about Friday last week. Most annoying this time, was in the middle of doing something important. What is it all about?
- RosieThis no keeps calling, but stops ringing before I can get to the phone, getting really fed up with it, just stop ringing. I'm a pensioner with bad knee problems!! GO AWAY.
- J.N.We were called by this number 5 times tonight. During the first 4 calls they immediately hung up. Upon the 5th time an Indian call centre operator was actually available on the other end of the line, trying to sell BT telecom services. I told him that it must be a joke and explained to him that BT is incompetent and unable to offer any up-to-date telecom services in our town, such as SDSL, fibre-optic lines, VOIP, Metronet etc. The BT guy got quite ambarrased. I also explained to him that in the UK it is considered rude behavior to call someone and then to hang up.
- Caller: An Indian BT call centre
- alexwhy the hell do they hang up when you pick up?
- F.D.Got the same problems as stated above. Phoned BT on 150 and they told me to unplug all the extensions, try 2 different phones and an engineer would call us back on a mobile to check everthing was okay. Still to do this so don't know if this will help. Have just been put through to another Dept. and they are removing us from from the sales lists - you also have to be specific for them to remove you from the BT listing.
- Caller: BT
- karenI have had two calls from this no in the last couple of days, it rings out around 3 times then stops...how irritating is this....
- karlsame same same same same, bt should be dealt with for this
- lauraHiya, This is BT they also have a number which is 08000285085 thye are either calling to find out where your phone bill payement is or sell you one of their products, Its a genuine BT call so i dont know why they are hanging up on some people and not others perhaps its just so they look busy behind their desks and they dont want to talk to anybody lol. But its BT so dont worry guys.

- Patrick ~ ChesterCall received today ~ usual practice of caller "hanging up" as soon as the call was answered. Who issued this number and why is there not a watchdog body out there who can have it barred?! OK .. they obtain a new number, but let's have that watchdog body and keep barring these callers until they realise they are going nowhere with their antics. How many elderly and disabled people get this nuisance call and more importantly how many of them end up responding.
- Caller: Unknown
- Brian Leathley - AndrewI have been called 3 times in 24hours. The caller hung up on my reply.
This number frequently calls, the fact they hang up on my reply may be that they use a power dialer.
My telephone is served by 2 numbers, one of which is connected to Bedworth lions Club, the other number is my business & personal number. - Pete WildeThe number is NOT just a generic BT number, despite what some people say.
It is used by both BT and by some authorised re-sellers of BT products and services.
What a lot of these companies do is off-shore the work to India where they set up a series of outbound diallers which dial perhaps 50 numbers at a time.
They perhaps only have around a dozen staff who automatically get connected to the first 12 people who answer their phones. Anyone who subsequently answers their phone gets the "silent" treatment as there are no staff available to deal with the call. If you hand on the line for long enough (could be several minutes), some one will eventually become free and talk to you. Even if you hang up it gets noted on the system that the call was answered and chances are they will try and call you back later, but it often also results in similar "silent" calls.
The basic idea is that as soon as a customer advisor, as they like to call them, becomes free they are automatically connected to the next potential customer as the diallers are continually dialling and people are answering.
It means that they had a steady stream of customers ready to talk to, so there is no delay in disconnecting one customer and connecting to the next.
The downside is that you always need to dial far more numbers than you have operators in order to always ensure enough customer on the line. After all if you have 12 operators and only make 12 calls then there is a delay whilst the phones ring at the other end. Sometimes people don't answer. If you dial 50 numbers instead you might get 30+ hits, so your 12 agents all get some one to talk to. However the remaining 18 people who answered get the "silent" treatment.
The practice is illegal in the UK, but is permitted in India, hence the reason for many companies off-shoring there. - GemmaI got a call todday, ignored it then called back to see who it was. Great explanation abouve from Pete Wilde, will ignore in future. Thanks.
- Caller: BT
- AlGot a call at least once each day last week from thins number. Answered each one and every time the person at other end hung up. I also am on TPS.
- GeorgeTelephone rang, answered it after 4 rings and went dead. 1471 produced the number in question. Rang again a few minutes later, answered it straight away and an Irish guy said he was from BT wondering why I had moved my calls away from them.
Said I had done this about 10 years ago. Wanted to know if I would consider changing back. I said I was tied in to a 2 year broadband/free calls deal. He said they would contact me again then. I explained that this is what the guy said who rang a month ago and at that point he lost interest and hung up.
A crap way to make a living. And BT should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this.- Caller: BT
- fredhad that call tonight, but it sounded more like a prank call. a guy's voice and a pub in the background. did 1471 and it came up with that number. if it's from BT, it looks like they do their overtime over a pint. will definitely ignore that one in the future.
- wildmanBT Sales call - received 4 silent calls on Wednesday then again called on thursday. Irish operator trying to sell me BT services - (I had moved away from BT years ago). Have complained to OFCOM and BT. Everyone that receives a call should make a formal complaint - and then OFCOM can act.
- Caller: BT
- DaveBT confirming the activation date of my phone line (which I already knew from when I rang them to pay a deposit for my new line). However now the line will be activated from the exchange rather than an engineer needing to visit here
However not an unsolicited call in my case and no reason to complain (apart from it being an Indian call centre)- Caller: BT
