I actually work for BT, and this number just called. Was one of our Team Leaders in Leeds returning my call so presumably is a generic number that displays when calling out?

six transfer charge requests at seven in the morning from this number, is it Indian call center?

This number is in fact a generic number shown when BT make a call to you.
If you ring it back, you will find a recorded message stating that "BT tried to call you. If we still need to speak to you, we will call back." or something like that.

Had 5 or 6 missed calls from this number today on my mobile. If it is so important why don't they leave a message? On principle, I never answer unknown numbers.

leave a message when you ring, then if we want to talk to you will will either answer call when it rings again or we will ring you back otherwise stop calling us!!!!!!!!!

As far as I know, this is standard BT number that gets displayed if someone tries to call you from BT's London offices. They might not be sales agent or staff, it could be someone that you know who works for any of the companies within the BT group.

Caller claims to be from BT. Probably trawling for personal data.

I WORK FOR BT. I can confirm it is a generic number that shows up when you are called by most BT places, for whatever reason, from whichever department.

Am fed up with this. I have had four calls from this number in the last 2 days. Each time the caller has hung up once I have answered the phone. I have then dialled 1471 to obtain the number (which i will no doubt be charged for)

Up until last week have been getting calls for a month where if I answered it, they just hung up. Doing 1471 got the 'We do not have the callers number' rubbish. Just this last week though, have been getting calls from this number. Wondering now if they are from the same people. BT? Persistant critters.  I am on the TPS, for what it's worth :(

called at 14:30 31/03/08 asked for the telephone account holder, iasked what it was about and they hung up!!

I have had hundreds of calls from this number.  I never answer a number which I do not recognise.  My answer-phone is always on so if they want me they can leave a message.

I'm the secretary of a local charity, and the charity contact number is my home phone line (we have no office).

I just got a call from an Indian sounding woman who said she was calling from BT and wanted to update their records. :suspiscion!:

She then named the charity and asked if we will be staying at the address. I said yes. She then asked how many people worked for "the business", at which point I got VERY suspiscious! I asked he why she was calling, and her response was to update their telecommunications account records. When I explained we don't have an account with BT or any other telecommunications company, she apologised and hung up.

It seems this IS from a BT switchboard, as the number on the caller display matches the subject of this discussion, but it felt more like someone phishing for information.

Does anyone know of someone I can complain to? BT shouldn't be allowing this type of activity through their switchboards.

I have managed to block 0800reverse calls but am struggling with this BT led one as my line rental is through a rival company...

Just received a call from this number, as soon as I had answered the call the caller hung up, have had a few like this from the same number. Life is to short to call the number back and say what the hell is going on and I am sure we would find nobody there, be nice to know what the game is.

warning!! this number GOES THROUGH the bt switchboard but ITS NOT BT when you ring the number back it wil say its bt but its not. DONT GIVE ANY PERSONAL INFO (OR ANY INFO FOR THAT MATTER) TO THESE PEOPLE. ITS YOUR PHONE &IF YOU FEEL HARRASSED REPORT IT TO THE POLICE-YOU ARE FULLY WITHIN YOUR RIGHTS TO AS THEY ARE BREAKING THE 'PROTECTION FROM HARRASSMENT ACT 1997' AMONGST OTHER LAWS. IM NOT SURE EXACTLY WHO THIS REALLY IS BUT THE POLICE HAVE THE POWER TO FIND OUT!
