I recieved a call from this number. It was a follow up from BT broadband support. They ask for the account holder and ask a few security questions to confirm you are indeed the account holder.

This is because they cannot discuss your account with a 3rd party due to the data protection act.

As their call centre is in India sometimes the caller disconnects through the multiple switchboards and it sounds as if they are hanging up. The reason for this is that follow up calls are automatic and only when you answer the switchboard connects you to a representative and at the same time your details appear on your screen.

An awful lot of scaremongering here but at the end of the day they only ask you these questions to protect you. In this day and age thats a bonus.

Just had a call from this number.
No reply after I said 'hello' and then the number hung up...

rung me today 1/7/9 and hung up after 2 rings !!!!!!!

This number has called me 6 times in the last 2 days!!  Each time is a hang up and it is starting to get on my nerves.

be very carefull of this number a guy phoned today offering me the free weekend and evening calls he knew my address because i would not tell him my postcode he siad he can not carry on any further so i told him to forget it he gow well shirtey and said if i wanted to waste money he said he was from bt but i doubt it i phoned bt to see if anyone recored calling me in connection with the service he said they said no and as i thought i have had the free evening and weekend call feature going for some time now so BEWARE WHOS CALLING YOU ITS NOT BT THATS FOR SURE all the best

Yep, I keep getting called by this number whilst I'm out during the day. Why don't they leave a message?

Number is BT's. I deal with Openreach through it.

I keep getting calls & texts on my mobile from this number about my broadband installation.  I had this installed by BT along with a new telephone line when I moved house in May.  They seem to want check on the installation for someone else's number.  I will not be picking up on this number again and advise other people to ignore it.  If I get any more calls I will report to Oftel.

i get this 18 times a day its always in indian voice with a dehli accent, they want me to cancel my bt account and sign up to (word not understood) indian telephone company at twice the line rate in rupee's and with a 24 numbered phone number. I used to get it once a day, and I called the number to cancel any unwanted sell calls from bt, that took me through to an idian voice, and now I get called 18 times a day.

i recieved a call from this number this morning as i missed it i assumed it was regrading a engineer appointment i had been made when i called back bt they had no trace of my call or appointment i am know concerned i will have a engineer turn up at my door and will be charge

had already 5 calls from this number in 1 week. they usually call in the night or weekend... whenever i answer the phone, who is calling hangs up....

I got a call from this number a couple of days ago and they said they were from Barclays and were trying to sell me life insurance. I declined.
They then rang again this evening and I didn't answer. Left a voicemail but didn't speak! I rang it back and the message said it was from a company called HCL.

I just received a call from this number and it was a reverse charge call from a friend of mine.

I have not had calls from this number for a few weeks.However when I did get them they were several times a day and they hung up when I answered them. I am now getting similar calls from 08003896818

I had a call today 31st August at 3.38pm from an Indian lady named Kakuli who said she was calling regarding a problem i had reported yesterday with part of my bookmarks on the btinternet account.
When i had sent the problem request to bt i had clearly said that i wanted no telephone calls as i have had a similar situation before with an employee telephoning me despite no calls requested.
I had to tell this lady at least three times that i had asked for no calls and she very persistent about speaking to me.
I hope i have caused a stir as i told her i was going to complain to bt as it appears she hadn't read the message sent.
I have just sent a serious complaint to bt telling them i am not happy with the call and telling them as well as posting information on various consumer websites and forums i would invoice them if i receive any more calls.

I just rang this number after they rang me, says it's "HCL on behalf of BT". I looked up HCL and it's the Indian company which manages BTs tech support and so on.

Seems legit, but you should be careful, there are lots of scams out there.

Just got a call from this number. It was a lady with an american accent claiming to be from BT and trying to get me to rejoin BT. When I dialled 1471, it was a company called HCL calling on behalf of BT.

Just got a call from this number. It was a woman with an English accent and she asked, "Hello, I'm looking for Aled?" I replied saying that she must have the wrong number (I didn't trust her or the number after getting my name slightly wrong). She then said, "It's a wrong number? OK." and hung up.

Surely a company calling a client or whoever should introduce themselves before saying anything else?

I have had a total of fourteen calls from this number. I joined up with Sky telephone(goes through BT), I had one message left...which was just hello hello hello. Tonight I picked it up and said hello a few times until someone asked if I was someone else, then how long we had lived here?! I made up my answer and asked who they were and he claimed BT as well. Its a nuisance, we're exdirectory and have only started to get this problem since going on a car insurance comparison site online, where I specifically said I didn't want any correspondence via telephone...coincidence??
