I got a call claiming to be from D&B and saying I need take no action because they were just verifying their database. I never signed up to there database and want to be removed.

The phone at work started ringing earlier, we have caller ID but it said "out of area" this is usually a call from abroad which I'm used to as we deal with quarries in portugal, however when I answered there was just a recorded message saying " We are just checking telephone numbers...there is no need to do anything but if you do require further information please call D & B on 08003580884."
I wasn't sure who D & B were so put the name and telephone number in to a search engine to check and came across this site so obviously I've not atempted to call them after reading all of the comments on here!
Because they say they are checking numbers I'm wondering if I will next get a call asking for the details others on this site have mentioned?

yeah got a missed call from this number this afternoon. i too am registered with the TPS, but i might as well be registered with Santas little helpers

Exactly the same as Sarah. I only answered the phone with an "hello" but that seemed to satisfy whoever it was calling. I then get some crap message about verifying details. Having given none I fail to see how this helps.
If they phone back they get a mouthful.
It is, I'm sure, some sort of scam so beware of this number.

I have also started to get these calls. Problem is that TPS only applies to private residences, not companies, so if you are a company working from home then the government can sell your contact details to people like this and there is nothing you can do about that.

I found out that if you call 0870 243 2344, option 3, option 2 then you can apparently get removed from their list. I called this number and requested the lady that my number be removed - she looked at her list and quoted my company name. I told her that the company used to have that number, but that it is now only a private residence, and she thanked me and promised to remove it.

Received a telephone call at 1630 hrs from this No 26th March 2010 stating there was no need to answer and that they were "just verifying telephone Nos"! sounds more like the pre cursor to  more calls. I have however followed the advice given by Clive on page 7 of this website to ask further questions from this company.

I spoke to "Anupa" who informs me they are called "D & B" and they are a "Credit rating Company"! strangely however no address!!! but they do have a website www.DnB.com When I told her my No referred to a private residence I was then informed she would require further details such as company name etc !! So pleased they listen!! There followed an argument with regard to further details which she insisted were required until I dug my toes in and informed her I would provide my telephone No ONLY to which she reluctantly agreed then when I provided my number she told ME, MY details! My advice is to give nothing more than required, viz your telephone No ONLY, and INSIST thats all they are getting. THEN tell them to remove you from their data base, then put some brief details on here as an aid memoir, and if you receive any future calls they are then in breach of the regulations and you can always refer back to the entry on here to support any future complaints to the regulators who always ask for proof of your complaint. What better evidence than a website full of "supportive complainers" all saying the same thing?

Just got a recorded call from "D&B" saying that they were just verifying their records and that I didn't need to do anything. I had a call from Dun and Bradstreet over a year ago. They seemed to think that I was a business, think they'd got my details from my domain registration.

You can call their switch board, I managed to get through to someone who said that he'd have my number removed. I won't hold my breath.

Had a call from this number with a recorded message:

Clive - You can use TPS for businesses, if you're a sole trader register as per a normal home number, if you're a limited company use the Corporate one.  We've got it here at work, worked a dream stopping junk faxes with the fax machine but not so well on the telephone.

My wife answered a call from this number this afternoon. It claimed to be fully automated service checking a database, company named B&D. And then rang off. Never heard of the outfit before, and hope we will not again. BTW we are ex directory and signed up with the phone preference service

i have just called them (D&B) on 01628 492000.I got through eventually, I think probably to a call centre in India as all the operators were of that nationality
they are a 'Credit rating businesss' what ever that is????? and i have asked then to stop calling which he has said will happen........................... will have to wait and see

Mine was an automated message, saying they were just checking their records.  I guess this means that they now know my phone number exists, so I shall get lots of calls.

this number seems to be from all sorts of different things i had a call and just got an automated message saying we are just checking phone numbers in the area end of message then the call went dead

Blank call - nobody there

Just had an automated call from this number verifying my number! What is all this about?

had the same call. Unfortunatley it stopped ringing before I could answer. Thse people get up my back! Looking forwards to giving them a mouhtful if they call again

Got a call from them today.............When i said to them please give me your phone number as i am just going to put it in google to find out who you are.....they hung up........I say it to all of them and it seems to be working as the calls are becoming less and less !

keep getting call from this number-> 08003580884, when i answer is just goes dead....  maybe they make money outta people calling back, its been going on for a few weeks now not every day but just now and then.

Also just received a call from these people, which rang off before I could answer it.
Thanks, guys, for all these posts - I will be VERY wary (and possibly very rude!), if ever I do pick up a call from them.
