I was called by this number at work today, although when I answered the call was terminated at the other end. Definitely automated, which would verify what others have reported below.

Just got a call from them - they just let it ring about 4 times before hanging up. These nuisance 'test' calls thankfully stopped over the holidays, but apparently they're back.

There is a purpose to Dunn and Bradstreet. They'll recommend a credit limit to just about any company for £15; they do something similar to Companies House called http://www.do-business.net/ which will probably list your trade name if you're not incorporated or your company if you are. Listing trade names of unincorporated people is something that Companies House don't do, so it's a useful back-up.

Like Companies House, do-business.net offers a free email tip-off service which says things like "There has been a reduction in the credit status of the company Phoenix Group which you have been following", or "Phoenix Group has closed". I did once pay £15 for a report on a factory to see if it was about to close and saw that it was doing quite well. It's good to monitor people you do business with or give credit to. Once you are on the system you can provide a link to is from your web site or quote your duns number to help people judge your credit limit.

The phone interview is just to check you still exist and are not a widow of a late sole-trader, ceased trading, changed name or whatever. The person further up this column who was called about her late husband's business should just have explained the situation. It would have reduced further calls and junk mail in future. I think people should be polite to Dunn and Bradstreet callers.

There may well be a purpose to the company but some of us don't care.  Some of us don't want or need credit.  Some of us are careful with our money and don't spend it until we have it or we already have sufficient provision with our banks.  Some of us are able to use the internet and can service our own needs.  Dunn and Bradstreet has been calling both my mobiles several times a day periodically over 3 years.  What's the point in that?  If I called you every day for the rest of your life to tell you that making your own banjo is a rewarding hobby you'd be no more interested on the last day than you were on the first.

Both my mobiles are registered with the TPS (yes, you can register mobiles with them) so take a hint sales people.  People registered with the TPS don't want your calls so don't make them.  Save yourself time and your boss money.  If you feel entitled to break the law and risk your employer getting a fine (or you think you've found a "clever" loophole) then don't expect a polite reply.  You may get one.  You may just get me hanging up.  Or you might get someone who has had five cold calls that day and is feeling a bit harrassed.  You've got your industry to thank for that.  Joy of joys.  I've got 2 new mobiles now and I can block a number using the handset after the first call.  Let's hope in 2012 I mostly get calls from people I want to hear from which is why I have 'phones.  I didn't buy them hoping a complete stranger would call because they had anticipated I might want something.  I want to look like Angelina Jolie, I want her bank balance.  Sometimes I think it would be cool to be invisible.  When you can make that happen, call me...

I have had these annoying "recorded"calls...
...How does one explain to a recorded message?
How does one be impolite to a recorded message?
How does one STOP this infringement to ones privacy?

Your post suggests you could 'possiby' have more to do with D&B than you own up to.

Called at 9.55 am - obviously an automated call.  I can have as many as 4 a day, being retired and having a family I can't ignore the 'phone because of emergencies so feel as though I'm being harrassed in my own home.  Can't something be done about this problem?

Also calls from C T Carbon wanting my husband, twice this week I have told them that he is not interested, has no money and would they please take my number off their database.

Calls from an asian caller telling me I had reported an error on my computer, when I told him no I hadn't he asked I go and switch it on - don't think so !!!!  Put the 'phone down.  A scam obviously.

Auto-dialed call from 08003580884 with recorded message claiming to be "d&b" verifying their database, for further info "call 08003580884". I didn't.

Called today by automated service.  Said I did not need to do anything, but if I wanted to do so I could call 0800 358 0884.  This number does not accept calls.  The references in the conversation from D & B give an )*&) number which is a premium number.  So, they make nuisance calls, then expect you to pay them to complain !!

Got an automated phone call confirming phone number is active - called this number back which isnt in operation ...so called D&B customer services 0800 001 234 to be removed from marketing.
We are registered TPS but they apparently contact you via information that is available in the public domian.
May be daft but I have given them my email address to confirm removal from their system..we will wait and see.

Got an automated call from this number saying they were from D&B. Jest of the call was to say they were checking my number and no further action was required. Then said to call 0800 358 0884 if I wanted further information about the call. The number does not work so I'm a little annoyed I can't tell them to f**k off.

Had 4th dropped call from this number in a week.

There are OFCOM rules & fines for companies who use autodiallers to make calls and then drop them cos they haven't got an agent ready to deal with the call.

Anyone from D&B or whoever the callers are - be warned.
    • Caller: D&B?

Why on Earth did you give them all that information? It’s people like you that make it worth these people calling. Next time do yourself and everyone else a favour and put the phone down!
