I keep recieving calls from this number, it is a recording but i always hangup

I am ex-directory, on the tps service and also have signed up for "choose to refuse" and finally have taken the extra step of not accepting callers without ID. It is rediculous that given all this protection which I PAY for with exception of tps that they are finding ways to get round it all.

They rely on the fact that most people won't complain so GO REPORT THEM NOW.

I have successfully blocked this number using choose to refuse, interestingly the number above is not the number that was blocked, the number reported to me as being the calling number was

the choose to refuse service is easy to use and certainly gives you some power over nuisance callers it costs around £10 per quarter.

register for "choose to refuse" if you are a BT customer
when you get a nuisance call
dial 14258 and follow instructions and it will even block a no id number.

I hope i have given some more people the power to get at least a little peace.

Ok - Re the John Smith Call above. - The Listening Company (TLC)

I have some questions; the quick research that I have done they appear to be a fully legitimate call centre operating on behalf on several major UK companies, strangely SKY does not appear to be one of the companies using TLC. If this is the case - why are so many of the calls totally unprofessional? Their website claims (and many other business websites) that their level of professionalism is second to none; indeed companies like Lexus, BT  and O2 are unlikely to pay poor companies to handle their calls. Something just doesn't add up here....???

THATS THE THING MOST OF THEIR CLIENTS ARE UPSTANDING AND REMEMBER THAT THEY HANDLE ABOUT 900,000 DIALS A MONTH. SKY IS THEIR BIGGEST CLIENT FROM AN OUTBOUND PERSPECTIVE. THERE IS ALWAYS THE BAD ELEMENT WITHIN THE CALLERS, BUT REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE NEVER GOING TO FIND GOOD COMMENTS ON A WEBSITE LIKE WHOCALLSME.COM

Same problem, you may wish to know THEIR telephone number (The Listening Company  http://www.callcentre-expo.co.uk/page.cfm/action=Exhib/ExhibID=00024), who knows maybe they want to be signed up for all sorts of telephone services. And I am already registered with TPS, I have passed on the this companies details and sincerely hope they are fined, the more people that are registered TPS and rat on them, the more likely they will start to respect peoples privacy.

I've had three calls from them today, phoned their 08003896818 number and it says to call 08000324617 then go through the call to get your number taken off their call lists.

If it doesn't work, will give them a call using the details in a previous post.

Got 6 calls this week (in Ireland) from this UK number.  Didn't answer, however we are registered as ex-directory with BT Ireland and have opted for no cold calls.  Will phone BT to alert them.  Also will try the hash thing next time.

Did a trace on this number and goes to 02083327270 - not sure who they are and don't care but wish they would fk off!

I also received a call from that number today at 17:00. I did not answer.

keep ringing 4 to 5 times a day.when answer there is no one there.

Literally just got a call from this number and heard nothing but silence for 15 seconds...I'm not going to call back now I know who they are - or rather don't know who they are but know it's not important!

We've received several unwanted and automated phone call over the past three weeks from The Listening Company who don't seem to be listening very well to the TPS Telephone Preferences Service because we're on it but they continue to ignore it and continue to call us.

This behaviour by The Listening Company is unacceptable, give them all call on their direct telephone number 020 8484 1000 and give whoever picks the phone up some grief, or fax them on 020 8484 1001.

Place their above email addresses on as many forums as you can which should give them some hassle from the automated email bots looking for email addresses to spam to.

Time to make the Listening Company sit up and listen!!!

note to sarah, take a second just to work out how pushing a hash key on your phone would remove your details which are inputted into a computer system which has nothing to do with the telephones. just wait til u get throught to someone and ask to have your details removed, they are obligated to do so

They called me again!!!!!!!!!!!!!  This time the number comes from 0208 334 2400 - why won't they fk off!  Have had to use choose to refuse again to bar them.

Just got an email back from TPS saying

It would appear from your complaint that companies that use Power or Predictive Dialling equipment are calling you. A Power Dialler is an automated dialler which can store, access and automatically dial telephone numbers and a Predictive Dialler is an automated dialler which will adjust the rate at which it dials, and delivers answered calls automatically to match operator availability.

Some companies have not set their dialling rate correctly and this means that individuals are therefore receiving calls, which, on answering, "click" after a second, and then the line goes dead. There is an additional service "Silent Callguard" which permits you to register your telephone number in order to reduce these types of calls and if you wish to register with the service you should call 0870 4443969 or visit www.silentguard.co.uk .

So just put my number on that site - not sure if it will help but anything is worth a go!

We are getting really fed up to the back teeth with 'The Listening Company' who continue to call us. Spoken to BT who want to sell us a service to block the calls & TPS seem unable to do anything about it!!!

I just hope to goodness that the BBC Watchdog get their teeth into the idiots running The Listening Company and savage them!

BT ought to get off their fat [***] and cancel the account with The Listening Service because they are certainly ignnoring all the telecom rules and regulations.

There are thousands of complaints and despite the complaints as yet OFCOM, TPS are doing nothing however they didn't reckon on me!!!!

It may not be the company thats calling you direct many companies contract out! however all have to abide by the OFCOM rules reg's and they my depends on the type of call and if they have been asked to stop formally in which case they are in breach of the law!

OFCOM has recently set new measures they dont cover all instances or tatics used by this company hence I've taken my complaint further with my landline company, OFCOM and the TPS.

I have told the company apart from deleting me from their lists they are to:-

1/ Written apology this is to be fowarded to the national papers naming the company, 2/removal from thier lists, 3/ disciplinary action against the agent or termination of the contract if contracted out to a marketing agency.

Plus a few other minor points it was made clear these are not optional they have been warned failure to comply will result in legal action/possible court action.

Separately the Government has confirmed today that the maximum financial penalty that Ofcom can impose will be increased from £5,000 to £50,000 for each breach of the rules. The increased fine will come into effect later this year and follows a separate DTI consultation.


Ofcom today announced the implementation of new measures designed to strengthen consumer protection from silent telephone calls.

Silent calls are a significant cause of inconvenience and anxiety for thousands of people every month. Most silent calls are not generated with malicious intent but occur when call centres using automated calling systems generate more calls than their available agents can deal with. When the person called answers the telephone, there is no agent available, resulting in silence on the line.

Sections 128-130 of the Communications Act 2003 give Ofcom power to take action against persistent misuse of electronic communications networks or services, including silent and abandoned calls. After a public consultation announced in October 2005, Ofcom is now introducing a new policy on persistent misuse to be implemented with immediate effect.

The new rules provide a consistent and enforceable framework for the responsible use of automated calling systems. Ofcom’s policy aims significantly to reduce the total number of calls abandoned by call centres and to ensure that consumers can clearly identify the source of any abandoned call that they receive.

MAKE SURE YOU COMPLAIN WHY SHOULD YOU HAVE TO CALL THEM JUST TO HAVE THEM REMOVE YOU FROM THEIR LIST, FROM A LIST THAT WAS PROBABLY SHARED ILLEGALLY UNDER THE DATA PROTECTION ACT!!!

Got a call from this number at lunchtim today, they said they were from SKY tv and asked me for my date of birth, password, and mothers maiden name....i just said write to me because i'm not willing to give them any information, I called sky and they said they don't know who it was!!!
