They rang me twice today, once when I was out then I picked the 2nd one up.  Was someone calling on behalf of BT stating I qualified for "free BT vision" to which I said I wasn't interested and the rude woman hung up immediately - mmm targeted on sales per hour me thinks!!

This number called me 14:18 on the 12th Dec. When I answered, it rang like I was calling them, so I hung up pretty quick! It rang again 14:19 on the 17th so I ignored it and will continue to do so.

I used to get marketing calls all the time until i came across a small device called TRUECALL it`s a bit exspensive at £99.00 but it`s worth every penny .
What it does is every time someone calls you the device shows the number and when you answer to find it`s someone you don`t want to talk to just press the zap button then the device stores the number in it`s data bank and blocks the caller every time they call , It`s also got other options look for yourself on google www.truecall.co.uk

Just had this number call me, contacted two touch the company on the very first page, and asked to be removed from their database.

Under the data Protection Act you can formally demand they remove your phone number from their records.

If the calls persist get in touch with the office of Fair trading and make a complaint under section 40 of the the Adminstration of Justice Act 1970.

Have been reading the above messages. We constantly have missed calls from this number and even when we pick up nobody ever speaks. We are on TPS but its not helping.
So blooming annoying have rang them back a few times to tell them to pee off but it just goes through to an automated message.

Thanks Kerry for the contact details.

I strongly believe in "if you can't beat them, join them".

So why don't we all call and email and fax them all day long like they do to us? I have done it now for the last 15 minutes, every time they answered, I put it down and re-dialled. after about 20 times they seemed to stop answering. Now I have to go and send some emails.

This number called me twice in 40 minutes - I usually use the 1471 facility after every call I don't recognise - on the second occassion I picked it up fairly quickly and somebody spoke to me - the call was on behalf of BT Broadband - I already have BT Business Broadband - they were trying to sell domestic BT broaband - I did eventually convince the lady - she apologised and that was that. I didn't actually confirm it was this number until after the call when I checked using the 1471 facility. It isn't right that they can do this just to sell broadband and something I'll consider when I contract renewal time comes.

Rang the number (T: +44 (0)191 525 7000) given by Kerry and asked to be transfered to complaints, they said they will remove my number from their internal list.

I've half a mind to keep calling their number and hanging up!

I've had several silent calls from this number over the past week. I rang the number - it is free - and was told that they had been trying to contact me on behalf of one of their clients and would try again later!!!
But I am registered with TPS - I just checked - and I don't want to be contacted.  Why can't this company be fined - say £50,000 for a first offence and doubling for each subsequent call.  There seems to be no obvious way of registering complaints against known organisations like this.

Just had a phone call of this number (08004082680) it was a feller called Darren from EDF energy!  Claiming he can save me money on my energy bills. It is obvious from reading the other comments above that this is a number for a company who work on behalf of other companys like BT and EDF Energy and who ever else pays them to do tele sales for them.....

I think BT have a lot to do with these unwanted calls. Here is what they say as part of their Privacy Policy:

"Do we share your personal information with anyone else?"

"As a normal part of our business we share with other communications companies information for connecting and charging for calls over each others networks.
We sometimes use other companies to provide services to you or to provide services to us. To enable them to do this, we may need to share your personal information with them. When we do so, these companies are required to act in accordance with the instructions we give them and they must meet the requirements of the Data Protection Act to keep the information secure.
We may share your personal information with other parts of BT to enable them to conduct their own businesses and to market their products and services to you. We provide this information in accordance with our code of practice on the disclosure of customer information. This code limits BT´s ability to share information in this manner and is intended to prevent BT gaining unfair competitive advantage over its competitors.
We may share your personal information with other companies so that they can contact you with details of other products or services you may be interested in. We will only do this if you have agreed to this and where the companies agree to use your personal information for that purpose only. If you have agreed to receive information about products and services from another company and later decide not to you will need to contact that company yourself to let them know. You can of course ask us not to continue to provide your personal information to any more companies in future.
We may provide information, in response to properly made requests, for the purposes of the prevention and detection of crime, and the apprehension or prosecution of offenders. We may also provide information for the purpose of safeguarding national security. In either case we do so in accordance with the Data Protection Act. We also provide information when required to do so by law, for example under a court order, or in response to properly made demands, under powers contained in legislation.
If there is a change (or prospective change) in the ownership of BT or any of its assets, we may disclose personal information to the new (or prospective) owner. If we do so, we will require them to keep it confidential.
If you believe the personal information we hold on your is incorrect you may amend it by following the procedure set out below in "How can I change the personal information BT holds about me?"

First of all I have NEVER agreed with BT they can sell my info to anyone!! Also reading all that, they even tell you to register with TPS etc even if they themselves or their selected companies are harassing you with calls. I have just sent them an email (their complaint form) telling them to stop selling my number to any other agency and that I do not want THEM telephoning me with regards to any of their products/offers either.

Something interesting to back up the fact that all this marketing must basically start with BT as my employer set up a new branch and had a new telephone number. We were blitzed with marketing calls within a day of the number going live, and there is no way any of these marketing lot could have known the number as we hadnt had time to register with Yellow Pages, or send out any advertising about our number or send any correspondence to anyone on headed paper listing our phone number!!! Bl**dy BT!!
