Just got a new phone and was activating the SMS text messaging but had to modify the SMS centre number. I then sent the 'register' text to number 00000 and was then able to send a text to my mobile to check everything working. However no sooner completed than I was getting the 08005875290 number calls every few minutes, my head was reeling. Have deactivated the voice mail service through the 0800 587 5252 I saw posted here and so far no more calls but it means I now don't have voice mail.  All very frustrating but good to know there's somewhere to come for help. This is now beyond a joke with this number. I phoned the SMS cancel number 0800 587 5252 weeks ago and went for the no SMS option, checked again today and my number is listed for no SMS, but I am still getting them. I phoned SKY to get advice but they have never heard of this problem!!!! so I phoned the BT Nuisance Advice Line but of course as I am not a BT customer they cannot help, even though the message comes from a BT database.

...completely agree with you mate... was charged over 158 quid for BT putting back socket on new skirting board!... went to Sky straight away (cheaper line rental as well!) and got call from BT asking for my reason for transfer from BT from woman who was extremely rude when I said "no comment"... she kept saying "this is not a court of law you know"... now I have played the recorded message to everyone I know and they are disgusted with this obvious BT policy of rubishing a person who dares to transfer from them - how else would this woman have behaved if it was not BT policy?... lol!

It does seem to be BT messaging.
I wasn't aware that I had voice messages waiting to be read as had no alert from my own operator.
Had two calls from this number today, rung 1571 and listened to my messages and haven't had another call yet!

This number is probably FPC/Capital One related, I had my number changed for personal reasons a while ago and since then have been receiving someone else's debt calls from these jokers for a long time, since I don't use the phone and it's always on silent it doesn't really cause a problem, I actually get satisfaction out of them wasting their money calling every day, why should I waste my time and patience exaplining this to them, would you want to ? Nah!

They have a clever little trick where they recorded BT's options menu within their message to try and catch you out into accidentally calling them back but since BT has disabled this feature it's not so clever and neither are FPC or Capital One, I hope they go bust from all the money people owe them and their wasted phone calls and we the general public can live in peace once again! Screw them, screw their cheapo call centres and screw their lame foreign reps in the ****! I wouldn't mind if it was my debit, they aren't worth the time of day, can I say how much I wish they would crawl under a rock and die miserably with sharp things in their eyes! Over & Out!

My dentist uses this facility (always on a Sunday!) to remind patients they have an appointment in the coming week.

had 3 calls iin 10 minutes from 08005875290 today.  No reply when answered.

IT WENT TO FAST FOR MY FRIEND TO TWIG ON..SO IF IT IS LEGIT, THEY ARE USING A WRONG METHOD TO NOTIFY ANYONE ABOUT DELIVERY OF ANYTHING.

The number you are getting calls from is a sms platform service.

It is because somebody is sending an sms to your landline, the sms platform tries to send a sms as text to you, but if (for any reason) it cant establish if you have a text enabled phone plugged into the line, the platform converts the sms text toa voicemail message and then calls you to let you know you have a text as voicemail.

To stop it you have to either set up a text enabled phone(and in your case make sure the send and receive numbers are set up corrcetly and that you have the caller display facitlity) or speak to your service providor and put a SMS cerfew on the line(you cant stop this facility permantly as it is actually another number trying to call you, and this is just a third party facility).

this number rang from 11.50 pm until 12.30 am

I have had a call - the phone rang out, I answered it and got silence on the other end.  I had to end another call on my mobile abruptly to answer this one.

this number called me at 7.00 a m saying I had an SMS message and  to press 1 (which I didnt)

I have been receiving calls regularly. Called my provider and complained that I am TPS registered and also ex-directory. I was reassured that no marketing calls etc. will be coming through. Then my provider put me into dial sign to be shown on my phone so I would know who is the caller is and choose to pick up the phone. Just now when the phone rang I let it on answerphone mode and the number did show up as 080005875290.
It seems I have a sms text from 02031478143 and to retrieve my message. and if I want to find out more to call a 0844 number, by then my answer phone has wasted almost 10 mins using up my tape hence there is not much space left if I have someone genuinely calling for me to leave me a message, this is annoying because it is time wasting plus I do not have answer service logged for sms etc.
no way of finding out who it is except reading all the above logged here can only help us understand I am not alone and only when someone has the knowledge how to get rid of this pest! on cold calling and causing so much distress to all of us here. I gathered it is someone we knew in our lives because the number cannot just be used and your phone just rang for no reason. As there is no one even have my landline number and find it all quite unbelievable except when someone else is involved.

I keep getting these calls and messages too.......probably because I am in dispute with a leading mobile phone services provider and they have gone to a debt collection agency - These people are weasels and will do anything to get a response by harassment. However!! if you get a call from these people and they do finally talk to you simply refuse to identify yourself (normally by confirming post code/date of birth) and ask for theirs... this is only a fair exchange of info after all. - they soon get fed up! and can proceed with the call no longer...Bye Bye!
