3 calls in 20 mins. If u phone the number back it directs you the BT website where they are advertising their SMS service. Looks like its a ply to direct you to their products!!!

You need to ring BT 0800 800 500 and speak with the sales dept.  You have to active the 'free' service to retrieve your sms messages by activating the Caller Display service.

This was free when you made your calls from BT but now (like myself) as you get a discounted service via Sky or a cable provider, BT have decided that this will be chargeable at £1.49 + vat monthly.  I said "what the hell" and activated it because these calls are doing my nut in!

The service will take up to 24 hours to activate, in the meantime I may well still get these ghost calls until I can read the meassage that's lost within the system!!  I do hope it ends the situation as I work nights (not that the phone can tell what damn time of day it's ringing going by other posts) but I need to sleep during the day and only get 4 hours at that.  I can't be doing with waking ever 5 mins or I'm gonna pull the cable out the wall.

P.s and if it turns out it was BT texting a bloody sales call, well.....!!!!!!

had about 5 this morning from about 8 am to 2 pm called them up and complained

3 calls from 08005875290 between 1 & 2 pm today. How do BT get away with these illegal calls, when all others can be stopped?

Had 3 calls from this number this evening. Rings off after a few rings or no-one there when you pick up. I was watching Eastenders! Also had a voice call from BT earlier this evening trying to get me to go back to them for my calls.

3 calls during the middle of the night which have woken me up! Offcom should shut them down!

My Nan and Grandad just got a few silent call right next to each othere from the number 08005875290 and they called around 7:26 pm, they are a nucince.

9am christmas morning-phone rang 4 times-then stopped-not the first time-it happened several weeks ago

we have had 3 daed calls in the last 15 mins, not happy. but another example of the fact that this country in still going down hill due to the complete idiots that control us. with a bit of luck BT will be the next badly managed company to go bust.

keeps ringing me sms from bt, im with virgin media and cant stop it from ringing, when it rings on answer its just blank, any ideas????????????

Have had calls from this number every few minutes over the last hour. Spotted this when I googled the number. What is most annoying is that this happenend last year, I queried with Bt and was told it was someone who had texted my home phone but with a blank message (discovered husband had done this by accident on his mobile) as message was blank wasn't delivered. Anyway after hours of having calls even during the night I was told bt could stop me receiving any text calls at all so I opted for this. Haven't had any more problems until today...... wonder if I've been defaulted by bt to receieving texts again?....

I have had a number of these (no message) calls today. Some from 0800 5875290 and some from 0845 6021111. The message said that the call was an sms message from BT

I have a cable phone (ex directory) so I called virgin media and they put me through to the customers service dept. They can activate the ability recieve SMS calls. But beware, to ask to recieve the 0800 (free) SMS only because the 0845 charges over £1 per minute to listen to them.
Check 1471 before you cal anyone back.

Once it is set up (takes 24 hours) press 1571 to pick up SMS messages

The also gave me 0800 9533333 to report nuisenes phone calls. This may be useful if I continue to get a stream of these unwanted calls.

Just received the wake up call. Its 1:21... LIVID!!

Just installed a set of Philips CD535 Dect phones I did send a Text Message to my mobile phone(02) from it to see if it worked and it did o/k. Then during the night on 2 occasions I got calls from this dreaded number 08005875290 has anybody got the proper way to stop this going on? I have read through all the posts and have not seen one that works fully(my service is BT but bill for calls through AOL)

They phoned me twice last night on my home phone, if I ring the number will I be charged and how can I stop them.
