- DAVID RICHARDSONCalled this morning saying there was a parcel to collect and asking to Press 1 to hear the text. My partner did so, (foolishly), and started to get another long garbled message - she hung up. Is this a scam whereby phoning back incurs massive phone charges??

- Tam| 1 replyIt appears to be a from your Service Provider. Call 0800 587 5252 to change the settings if you do not want that service.
- liz replies to DKNThank you so much for this information, really clearly and succinctly put, very helpful!
- SueAs others have said, this is somebody leaving an SMS message on your landline. The timing of the first call is the 'fault' of the sender. If you don't pick that up then the system will try again the next time your phone is used eg if you do a 1471. This is where the excessive calls comes in. The phone rings and is ignored, then a 1471 is done, then the system tries again and the phone is ignored etc
It can take as long as 10 seconds for it to 'connect' and the line sounds dead - hang in there. As soon as you've listened to the message the system will stop trying to get hold of you but you DO need to wait for the message to 'kick in'.
Many of these SMS's are people thinking they're sending a text to someone's mobile as many contacts on a mobile phone list both mobile and line number and the sender selected the wrong one!!- Caller: BT SMS
- Call type: Text message
- FeeneeI think it's quite genuine. It';s the BT text to voice service when someone has sent you a text but accidently sent it to your landline.
To stop the text from bt call 0800 5875252 choose option 1 and then option 5. This is the SMS options line. You can also tell it to stop them during the night or permanently.- Caller: BT
