Had phonecall from Lee, he didn't identify who he was calling from but knew enough about our policy to let us think he was from Domestic and General, who are officially affiliated with Sky. Told us as we had been with them for 12 months and not claimed then payment would go down from £8 to £5. Sounded good but when paperwork arrived stated payments would be three lots of £45, not what we agreed to. Then had call from Domestic and General advising that they are poching customers and court papers have been served accordingly. As a result went straight to cancel direct debit with bank. Then had call asking why payment had been stopped, was advised by him that Homeguard are a third party of Domestic and General, now have a letter advising they want to charge us £30 for cancelling a policy we were mis sold.

I had a similar call frome Homeguard Direct and the caller said he was from sky and could have a discount as we had not had a claim. He spoke as if we had a contract with the company already and to make things clear I asked him if this was the case. He stated we did not have a contract and I informed him we have recently renewed with another company and did not want his services.
Yesterday my wife recived a call from Tom from Homeguard who convinced my wife we already had a contract  with them and that they knew our bank account details which my wife confirmed!. I phoned them back and let them know we did not want their services and that they  sales methods were unlawful however today we have recieved a letter thanking us for choosing Homeguard Direct to cover out Sky TV equipment, a paymant plan and a direct debit notification.
Please be warned this company sales methods are dodgy.

I too have been conned by this Company. The lady I spoke to gave her name as Patricia. They telephoned me asking about my Sky cover & I told them I had cover with Sky Protect, the legitimate & real Sky.  I was firstly told that Homeguard Direct are taking over the engineer call-out system with Sky & that Insurance cover for Sky equipment was now to be paid to them. Patricia asked how much I was paying per month which is just over £8 & she told me that for what I pay Sky over 12 months, they could now cover me for three years for the same cost. She too took my bank details to set up the direct debit, gave me a telephone number to ring if I had a problem with my Sky equipment, gave me my Policy number and said if I needed to phone with any questions I could speak to her on extension 222, then proceeded to remind me to cancel my direct debit for my existing cover with Sky! I wasnt aware this Company was fraudulent until today,23.3.12, when I had a call from Sky Protect, saying my bank had notified them that I had cancelled the Direct Debit, could they ask me why? I explained about Homeguard & I was immediately informed about Homeguard being fraud, and that they were being investigated. I was also told that if I had already paid any money to Homeguard, to contact my bank & I would be refunded, because this company are under investigation . I paid my first £30 to them only 2 days ago!!! I will be going into my Bank as soon as possible! PLEASE anyone reading this, DO NOT GET CAUGHT OUT by these fraudsters!!

    Hello Dippy,
If you listened to the phone call with the sales adviser. The payments go out quarterly
for the first year, leaving you payment free for years two & three

Hi. I think I'm another one thats been conned.
Yes I am also disgusted by the so called messages that have been left on this site by employees. Very mature and proffesional (not)
They are not authorised by the FSA and thats why they are very careful to say that they are not insurers.
I am very sure that in a court f law this would be proved that they are in fact selling insurance and therefore doing it illegaly.
Is anybody on  here willing to siort this out as a group?
If so lets arrange a day where we all contact Watchdog?
Many calls on one day will certaimly catch their attention.

I agree a send all complaints to watchdog day would prob do the trick with screen shots of this site and a link would prob also be good if you decide to report and yes a warranty is near enough an insurance in disguise plus insulting customers online is number one stupid and just plain rude I hope they get caught

Instead of Moaning about it do the only thing that may help and contact the FSA!!! Other wise next time will be your nan or grandad or even friends. They buy your information and do not care about TPS and all though they do not actually say they are sky they use clever wording to make you think they are and that is still ilegal!!! GO TO FSA and stop moaning.... I did and I feel so much better for it.

Talking to Action Fraud last week after an elderly friend had been scammed by 3 (yes 3) of these companies, they told me they really want to hear from everyone who is approached by these scammers.  It is their opinion that one set of people is running several firms in different places.

i had a call from a gent, back in january, that offered me the same level of cover for my sky but just at a cheaper rate than what i was paying to sky protect. i did investigate this further before giving out my bank details of course but i have decided to take the cover up. i then had an issue with my satalite not recieving a signal....i rang Homeguard who had an engineer to me within a day and fixed the issue promptly, i also got a call from a member of there team to make sure that all my sky was working now. im very happy about the service homeguard provides and would like to add no body ever write the good things, they only complain about the bad things. im sure this company has thousands of happy customers and its a shame they couldnt all comment on here about the service they have recieved....no doubt it will soon out weigh the bad.

As you say, people don't comment about good companies. They're also unlikely to comment 5 months after they started using them and when their "problem" is also in the past. I wonder why that is?  Oh, I know, it's because the company in question has found out that their dodgy practices are being exposed and have decided to try and rescue the situation by making positive posts. The post above yours is 8 days old so you can't have suddenly seen the number on here. So, nice try, but people are not going to be fooled.  If you had seen the distress caused to my elderly, widowed, friend by the activities of this and two other scam Sky Warranty companies you would be ashamed to write what you have.  Then again, perhaps not.

ill have you no the reason i commented is because a neighbour had told me about this website and i thought id like to comment on my service! i dont take kindly to smarmy comments. it seems you are trying to cause alot of slander to this company...it begs the question whether you are a satalite rival company? either way im happy with my service and decided to share it...as u did with your bad comments....i feel it isnt down to you to judge who should, could, can and will put their feedback on this site.

If any company that sells a warranty under the disguise of insurance is not allowed to do so regardless of good/bad service if this company fell off the grid tomorrow you wouldn’t have them to ring back up with an FSA regulated insurance company you insurance would be passed on to another company and would continue in laminas terms they could run off with your money if they so wished that’s why you will find many people talking about FSA in other posts what people need to be aware of is warrantees are normally sold at point of sale not by another company a few months down the line unless its Domestic And General which would have been given your information by the store that you bought your tech from

Asking me about my Sky repair cover. When I said I was not interested they hang up and never take my name from the system so I get calls all the time.

Call this afternoon saying that as a reward for no claims he  (Max) could reduce my payment. I would also pay quarterly instead of monthly. It would be £60 per quarter for one year with the next two years free rather than £10 a month for three years. When I refused to give my details over the phone he became quite agressive and I put the phone down.
The peculiar thing is that we do not and never have insured with them. There must be more ethical ways, even in these times, for people to make a living!

Be warned, people out there, and yes, scammers do put complimentary posts on sites such as this.
