- Nan replies to MaryS| 1 replySky do not include insurance in the monthly package. There are lots of firms out there pretending to be authorised by Sky to offer insurance. Personally, having been conned by one of these companies a few years ago, I do not have insurance. Replacement boxes etc are so cheap these days, and the original boxes go wrong so rarely, it has not been worth it.
- MaryS replies to NanThank you for replying to my message. It had never occurred to me to have insurance for my Sky box, until I was told I already paid this to Sky by Homeguard in June. I hadn't got round to doing any more than asking other people if they had this (they didn't) until I had this call from Nationwide Satellite Services last night and it made me suspicious. I'm not usually one for agreeing to things on the phone, but they really made me believe it was quite usual for this to happen. I'm going to ring them and cancel and probably tell them what I think, but they've probably heard this already. Thank you again.
- Dean| 2 replieshad these people call I asked them to send me out the details of this policy. the guy who spoke to me said he could only send out the details if i issued my direct debit details that i could cancel if I was not happy with the details so foolishly i agreed.
What he didn't tell me I would have to write to them to cancel but I did get told when i tried to cancel over the phone that i should get a piece of paper and a pen and write a letter that expresses your wish to cancel however if this letter don't get to us within 24 hours you will have to pay a £30 pound cancelation fee. When I asked to speak to a manager I was informed that i was rude to his collegue so now i am going to be rude to you.
and proceeded telling me that this was an insurance policy then he told me when i said i was going to go to the finacial ombudsman he said they won't help because we are not an insurace company we are a breakdown company. I started loosing my rag they also told me they was part of sky then they have no affiliation to sky and that they never get any complaints about there service. but deal with any complaints in order of the trading standards. he also told me he was going to send my account to there collections department and will be demanding and I quote "the full [***] ammount" then terminated the call
Lovly company reported them to trading standards finacial ombudsmen and watchdog and after a little digging this is nothing new they used to be called homeserve and changed there name due to the bad rep and reports they recieved- Caller: home guard direct LTD
- Mrs S replies to LainyI recently spoke to the very same company, only I didn't have the same experience. They explained that they were calling from homeguard direct, when I asked if they were part of sky they said no they weren't and that they were an independent company. I think that maybe you should listen properly just because a company says that they are calling regarding cover on your sky equipment, doesn't mean they are saying they are calling from sky. I didn't take the cover because its a waste of bloody money, put your £6 a month in your savings account, then you can just pay "SKY" to come and fix it yourself. Oh and about service, "skyprotect" are not sky either they are domestic and general an insurance provider. That is all!!!!!! They I believe are trying to monopolise on the fears of people and making a fortune, by doing so. Only insurance recommended by "SKY" are you people idiots????? Seriously when you by your car do you get told who you can or can't get insured by?????? Think people, think I know for some people in this day and age, it's difficult to make decisions for yourself but give it a go sky cover is sky cover where ever you get it from!!!!!!!!
- Rachel replies to MarySNo you didn't lol, you do realise that you can request a copy of your call for £10. Listen back and I'm sure you wioll find that that wasn't the case
- HGD Agent replies to Dean| 1 replyAt the end of every call made by homeguard direct a disclaimer is read, and this is every time a sell is made
"Legally I must make you aware that in accordance with the consumer protection regulations of 2000, you have 7 days from receiving your paperwork to cancel your agreement with us, If you wish to do so it must be done in writing and the address you would need will be in your confirmation paperwork, would you like to confirm this with me now or wait for your paperwork to arrive"
I think that some of the people on here like yourself are totally deficient of mental function, seriously your mistake yet you blame a company that has to follow strict guidelines and always states the above. Putting comments which are slanderous online, because you failed to adhere to the terms and conditions. As for used to be called "Homeserve" are you completely idiotic, Homeserve is a totally different company, which is still running, who provide home emergency insurance and maintenance. Seriously you are obvoiusly in need of a reality check. - HGD Agent replies to GeoffWhat a load of tosh, they say they are calling regarding breakdown cover on your sky equipment, homeguard NEVER tell people their policy has expired? Also having worked for them I know they don't even use the expression repair plan. Your just making this up!!!!!!!!
- IanGiven this telephone number by a guy calling himself Tom from a company called Homeguard Direct.
Tried to sell me insurance cover for Sky equipment. I don't think that I will be calling him back to give him my bank details !- Caller: Homeguard Direct
- Call type: Telemarketer
- NEARLY CAUGHT!Jade from Home Guard Direct rang to say that as I hadnt claimed for over 12 months that they will reduce my monthly payments to £6. She had the wrong policy holder details, the wrong monthly payment details and had no idea of what my policy number was or just what equipment I had. She said her Company were taking over the policy (she didnt know who from) and she needed my bank details etc to set up the paperwork for the deal to go through.
I rang SKY who took all relevant details and said they will continue to supply the policy cover. Sky seemed to be aware of this scam and I believe should be writing to all policy holders telling them of the scam.
Beware of a very polite lady ringing you!- Caller: HOME GUARD DIRECT.
- Leah replies to SilverDid they proceed with ccj after 14 days have just had the same letter myself that if I do not pay a cancelation fee of £30 that's what would happen! Don't want my credit rating affected
- Blondie replies to AndyI had an almost indentical experience 7 months ago. They led me to believe that they were sky protect whom a have a contract with, saying that the payments would go down. I paid £45 by direct debit(although I didn't give details of my bank account because I assumed they must have them already)
When my usual payment of £9 per month was taken out of my account I phoned Sky protect and they assured me that they were nothing to do with Homeguard. I couldn't get my money back so stopped any more payments from going out. Now I am being threatened by court proceedings. - kevin replies to Pete| 1 replyhi i got my policy today they said on the phone i would only pay £5 a month but it says i must pay £45 so i will be cancelling my direct debit before it comes out
- Mary| 1 replyHomeguard have been taking money from my elderly parents for a while. I stopped the account in 2009 when my father died but I've noticed that they have started taking money again (£30 quarterly). When I phoned they said the account was started up again in March this year. I know my mother wouldn't have voluntarily agreed to it so how can they do it? I'm so angry with these companies. My parents were obviously persuaded to start up accounts with several different companies so were paying a fortune for nothing. At one time they had two accounts with two companies with different names, but coincidentally from the same address. These people phone and say they're from Sky but they're obviously not. Strange, or not, that many of these companies are based in Littlehampton?
- JulieThis company has no shame....spoke to someone called James (for over 1/2 hour - could not get him off the phone) He stated
1 Homeguard direct are the official engineers for Sky Protect (duh no they are not SP aka D&G) use sky engineers from SKY
2 They will get someone out either the same day or next....on terms and conditions it states 48 hours
3 they will replace with BRAND NEW equipment...no reconditioned mainly.
..then he wanted me to pay for 3 years cover (upfront)- be wary of any company that offers that and wants money up front...they may go into liquidation (and reading these posts it seems iminent), I am not taking cover but if I did I would do it monthly so you can cancel.
The whole phone call was terrible, infact he kept trying to tell me I had a sky plus box - only have a standard, I asked if I cancelled sky would they refund me on a partial basis, he replyied "Yes" but since found out - no they don't.
Oh and he said that sky charge for labour and parts....no it is just a one off fee of £65 and if they cannot fix it they replace it.
How this company is still trading I do not know, I have reported them to Trading Standards & written to Watchdog.
....I have also noticed that a lot of these companies are based in the Littlehampton Area, although Bognor & Arundel are areas aswell where the warranty companies are heaving.
If your system breaks phone SKY up say you are going to cancel as you cannot afford the call out fee and they will come out free of charge.- Caller: homeguard direct
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Julie replies to kevinMake sure you send it recorded delivery so they have no excuse.J
- l.appsi am having an ongoing dispute with home guard direct, my husband agreed to a policy to "insure" our recording box, my husband agreed and they swiftly took £45 out of our account, i queried it straight away and was informed by home guard that the policy was to cover "insure" my Sky plus box, one problem i dont have a Sky installation i have a Virgin media box, i called to cancel policy they asked for letter, my husband sent one, granted it was after the 7 day cooling off policy but one was sent, home guard are saying they never received it. i have rang then several times this week as we have received a letter advising we were in arrears, i cancelled the direct debit after first payment, home guard direct never wrote to me to query why i had cancelled the direct debit or that they were unable to take payment from the bank, most companies send a letter to query. tonight i have spoke to a manager called dave who has said that after listening to the original sales call my husband wasnt mis-sold the policy, after he said that my husband was made aware that the policy was for sky equipment, the first time he re-iterated the call to me he never mentioned that my husband was advised that it was a policy regarding sky equipment (we have virgin media) i questioned this then he back trackrd and said he was told and made aware, i now look forward to my conversation with trading standards a nd Cameron Robinson company director. reading the t&c's if we have given incorrect info in their opinion the policy must be cancelled, heres hoping i can get them back with their own t&c's!

- Debz| 1 replyRight lot of con merchants...lie all the time....Cameron is the rudest person I have had to speak to, I sent a letter to cancel and they said they received it after the 7 day cooling off period, cameron wouldnt stop shouting and being rude etc etc, tried to tell me they would charge me £30 to cancel the agreement as I wrote after 7 days (I returned the agreement the day I received it and sent it back first class) ...well cancelled the dd and they can whistle, I cant wait to see them take me to court
- Tyke replies to DebzI had the same call from this company telling me that they were taking over SatelitteAssured the company I am with. They were very plausible and appeared to have the info to hand but like previous comments said they did not keep hard copy of my direct debit for Satassured. Like a fool I gave them the info. Later but after their cooling off period I had a concern and called Satassured who confirmed my suspicions. I sent them a letter and reported them to trading standards. I cancelled my direct debit and lodged a Direct Debit Indemnity Claim with my bank to get the £60 they had already taken. This was successful and the £60 was duly paid into my account. End of story? No. Today I received a letter from their legal department telling me to pay up or they would take out a CCj on me with all the incurred costs falling on me and affecting my credit rating. Talk about bully boy tactics. My solicitor found this most alarming and they will be hearing from him.
- Syd replies to tomTry spelling properly for a start...lol
- elaine replies to Mary-have also had similar dreadful problems with these companies and my elderly mother who lives alone. They always seem to ring in the evening and are so forceful on the phone I can quite understand why elderly people would feel obliged to sign up; my mother said she was told she might lose her Sky TV and must agree to the policy to stop this happening. Sat Assured or whatever they call themselves used equally underhand tactics and we have only just got that sorted out after paying a great deal of money unnecessarly. I asked one employee if he had actually read any of these blogs about his company and he replied they couldn't be about Homeguard, it must be Home Serve!!! (they are fine...!) I am exasperated that these people make a living conning unsuspecting Sky owners out of a great deal of money selling 'protection' they do not want.
