This Company telephoned me and I have been tricked into believing they had something to do with Sky, but they have not. I tried to cancel but they said they did not receive my letter in time, So then I had to pay them £30 to cancel with them. They have also taken £30 from my bank account as well. Is there any way I can get my money back? I have sent them an email telling that I am disgusted with the way they trick people.

My husband took a call from Homeguard who specifically mentioned SKY and although we usually ignore cold calls we were due to leave in an hour to go on holiday and he was duped into signing up for a standing order.  We returned from holiday ready to cancel and found that £60 had been taken from our account.

How could we have been so stupid?

I also got a call from this company saying my payment to Sky was going down. When he asked for bank details i must have picked up the wrong bank statement and gave the number on it. He asked me would i like the transaction on paper and i said yes. A few days later i received a letter confirming my agreement but when i checked the details it had the name differently written and this bank number which they said had been checked and was ok. I decided to cancell so went to the bank but the girl said the direct debit had not gone through. When she checked the number i gave them she said it was an old bank loan number and they would have trouble getting money out of it as it was empty. I intend to go back to the and tell them of this company to save others getting caught the same way i was.

I recently received a call from Homeguard Direct, the sales agent I spoke to was efficient and changed me from my monthly payment of £9 that I was paying with SKY PROTECT <<< not Sky - Domestic and general a company that pay Sky to use there logo, and save me over £100 over a 3 year period. Very happy with the service I received and I am dissapointed to see so many negative comments .

Have been plagued by this company for the last two years after they duped my wife into signing up for the sky repair plan,
£50 per quarter , when our sky box went down we phoned them for the repair service , that was over 12 months ago and still waiting for an engineer doh, when we phoned them to cancel the agreement they said that it was £30 to cancel , lol not on your nellie, i told them that they had already cancelled the agreement by not fulfilling their part ,
our bank have been very good and refunded the money everytime they have took it, they are very crafty the way they do this, after cancelling the direct debit several times it became apparant that they were just adding numbers to the original agreement mandate so the bank would accept it,
just had a letter from them today saying that they would be pursueing the money we owe them and could result in a county court judgement lol bring it on :o)
my advise would be to stay well away from them and under no circumstances give them your bank details

In Aug 2010 this company contacted me...thanking me for choosing to keep my sky equipment covered with them and that my payments would be taken over the first12 months leaving the second and third year payment free, I had not entered into any contract with them. I noted that they had not my initial on the head of the letter but my parents.
I rang up to explain that I had no such agreement and therefore they could not take any money from the account and was told that £30 had already been taken. After some further heated discussions I put my phone down in disgust only to be rung back by the same obnoxious individual a minute later who informed me that I still had to pay and it was up to me if I wanted to cut him off...he then proceeded to do the same to me....on checking my accounts I found to my surprise this was indeed the case, money had been taken from my account...how on Earth these people got my account details is beyond me.
I had my Bank change my card and investigate this company for fraud....my money was refunded and I thought thatwas the end of the matter.....until Nov when I received a letter from Homeguard no longer addressed with my parents signature.....just my sirname....it read:-

    Dear Mr -----

Following numerous letters to you we have still not received payment in respect of the payment plan you hold with us.....and went on to say they had also tried to call me to resolve the issue.
I took no notice, hoping they would realise that I'm not playing into their game of fraudulence.

13th Jan 2011: I receive another letter...this time threatening me with a CCJ if I dont respond in 14 days.

On a personal basis I hope this company get to appear on the BBC programme 'Rip off Britain' and not in a favourable light. They have caused a lot of people distress including myself by their underhanded ways.

What is worrying is that they have a certain amount of details that they shouldn't have. Seems like a visit from the Information Commisioners Office would be useful. Someone is breaching the Data Protection act.

Today my elderly parents got a similar call from "HomeGuard." Thank goodness my mother didnt give any Bank Details, but did have the sense to delay them by saying she was going to ask me about it first. The "very polite" guy on the telephone is calling her again next week. Any advise on how to tackle this call? And who can we report these people too?

If they haven't already done so, I would strongly urge you register your parents' phone number on the Telephone Preference Service (it can be done online).

When HomeGuard ring back, your parents should act surprised and inform them that they are registered on TPS and shouldn't be getting this kind of call. They should then ask for the person's name, company, address and phone number, so they can inform the TPS.

I find that giving this kind of response is like garlic to a vampire - they disappear very quickly!

You would be much better getting the phone blocked from receiving witheld calls. The TPS is a useless service. So I am interested to know how many vampires you have scared off or are you back on the meds?

    Mr Brown
Homeguard is the worst company in the world. It is run by crack heads. Its the biggest sham you'll ever see in your life. You dont even need a sky warranty anyway. Ask anyone that works for these companies. They are a joke. Sky will fix your box if its broken anyway. Homeguard is the worst by far. We should report them to trading standards and watchdog!

    Many thanks
