Seems it's the Nhs

I had a call from this number and it was from a nurse at Forth Valley Hospital Larbert telling me when my check up appointment was.

Contrary to what many people above say (it's an NHS number), I just phoned my local hospital on their publicly available number, and the reply was: "We don't send or leave messages on this number" (meaning 08006783393. None the wiser, as calling that freephone number gets the robot answer: "This number does not accept incoming calls." So - who is dialling us and what is their purpose, other than annoyance?

This is the generic NHS number that registers on your phone when you get a call from any department of the NHS using their switchboard to call out i.e. dentists, doctors, nurses

Hi keep getting calls on my mobile from this number , 08006783393 and its not accepting calls back i want to know who it is

This is the Glasgow NHS genuine call telling me I had an appointment.

This number has just called me at 3am. I am now extremely worried as my parents are both out still and my brother. Why the hell can you not ring back!

this number rings me and asks for me by name i let answer  machine  get it as i thought it was talktalk selling somthing

This number is the NHS just to confirm that you have an appointment due within a few week and to make sure that you will or will not be attending,

I have a miss call from this number I don't know how is it ? can u send me a message on my phone to let me know if it importing don't leave a voicemail because non have credit to hair it thanks

my mum keep getting these calls looking for me but they wont take another contact number to get to me, they are rude and hang up. thing is im attending several hospitals for several things so it can be either the royal infirmary, crosshouse in kilmarnock, ayr hospita or my doctors. its getting frustrating as im waiting on operations. its ridiculous they wont pass a message for me to contact back..... very angry and frustrated..... and in pain....

It's the NHS. This number called to give me appointments for my diabetic review.

I think it is time for NHS to change this number.  They could leave a message to return their call to another number, and it is unacceptable that if it is solely NHS using this number, that patients may be marked as 'not attending appointment' if they cannot confirm by return.

I had a call from this number at 3.52 AM.  Call me old fashioned but phone calls at that time are generally to tell you bad news.  Didn't get there in time, no message... assumed it was a sales call and just checked the number on here to find out more before I complain.  Really glad I didn't know it was the NHS because I would have been worried a family member had been taken in.

It's an NHS Scotland generic number (direct-dial numbers don't appear when they're routed from a switchboard).  Needs to have a number because some phones don't accept withheld numbers.  Can't leave message because NHS staff are not supposed to leave messages on ansaphones (particular issue when it's a generic ansaphone message), since you don't know who'll listen to them.

I got a call from this number this morning and they hung up. I received another one and it was an automated call to confirm a hospital appointment I have in a weeks time.
