Got a call this evening from"Sapphire Magazine".  Asked where they had got no. as I'm TPS registered.  They claimed I'd filled in a survey - have no memory of doing so  Anyway, same sorry tale as others on here (they offered £20 of petrol vouchers for £1 p&p plus free mag).  They then said I had 14 days to phone to cancel. I was caught off guard at tea time with kids running about so stupidly agreed and gave debit card no.  Decided to Google them and found this and other sites so have now cancelled my bank card, hopefully before they've got any money from me!

Had call this morning (9/9/13). Gareth from Sapphire magazine. They are now giving 0843 5070707 as their number. Gareth insisted that he couldn't accept cash or cheque for the £1 postage costs, only card details, which I refused to give him. Lucky for me!

This is all the information i have gained from trying to sort this scam out for my OH who was got by the cancer charity spiel they took the £1 and promised to send the magazine which never turned up, then they  took the £79.99 after the allotted 14 days which was the 4/9/13 we rang to cancel on the 5/9/13 and to our amazement after stating that we had been told by the bank that there were requests for money again this month and the following month we were told that the bank was lying to us but then on the same day they took another 79.99 and apparently don't know how this happened. i must say it's got me no where i've only ever spoken to 3 different people and i must have rung them in excess of 50 they have two address neither of which i can verify that they actually occupy one being from companies house which is,

again i cannot find any information of them residing at this address either also they provided me with a non 0843 number being 02921670407 but it takes even longer to be answered or it just comes up saying that person is busy please leave a message after the tone i have a email from them stating it has been cancelled but this does not have the typical look at a good company as it have no logo or contact details attached i was also initially informed that it is against policy to issues cancellation notices or statements also it is impossible to speak to a member of the management team as they all appear to be in life long meetings and never come out

I was taken off guard recently and answered an MR call.  The caller asked a few general questions, one of which was what was my favourite holiday destination.  I gave an answer and she said it would be my password.  Next day I had a call from Sapphire magazine" using the password. " It sounded like a bona fide call about petrol vouchers, etc. and he told me that a percentage of the profits go to charity.  It got to the bit about the £1 postage and I said "NO" to giving my debit card details.   He made a scathing comment and hung up! There are too many vulnerable people out there for this kind of activity to remain legal.

Just received a call from Sapphire Magazine which is claiming to be a Lifestyle Magazine - this was off the back of a survey that I had completed last Tuesday which I apparently gave my favourite colour as Blue - I vaguely recollected some survey with a guy whom I could not understand and neither he I....anyway I was entitled to a Free £20 Fuel Voucher to spend and only had to take receipt of this Lifestyle magazine they only cost was £1 to cover postage and packing...... the magazine was no obligation although if I did want to subscribe to it it would cost me £79.99 but I would need to call them to advise them...so here comes the card bit - £1 payable on a debit or credit card which would show up as a number they only needed the long card number across the from and the expiry date nothing else and as this was only for £1 there was no reason to give her the details - it was only the fact that she kept pushing this point that the alarm bells started to ring.....I was not happy about giving my card details out over the phone to a company that rang me? - so I advised her that I had left my purse at the office and could she call me back tomorrow on my mobile number at 2pm - this would give me the time to research the so called Magazine and lucky for me I did - looks like I just saved myself £79.99 - Thank you guys.......

Ive just had a call from these to complete a survey and was very nearly drawn in with the thankyou gift untill she wanted my bank details and when typing it in to google this site appeared thankyou to all u people, When she calls back later ill certainly know what to say to her like i can afford to loose 79.99 like that. Heartless people playing on cancer victums i lost my dad to this. X

Announced that they were Sapphire Services or something similar, did not really hear. She said that I had completed a telephone survey before. I said that I had not and then terminated the call.

I got conned for a £1 , they did not manage to get the £79.99 from reading the posts made me realize,and straight away canceled my card. this was the sapphire survey, and petrol voucher scam. now they are trying me with life insurance, saying they are D D Penny,and wanting bank details and set up this life insurance over the phone and no paper work involved at all. I know its to do with the same scum bags with another scam.,because with the sapphire scam they got a part of my address wrong, and i never told them,and surprise ,surprise the life insurance con merchants has got the same part of my address wrong as well. they are not as clever as they think. I know its only 1 pound, but i begrudge every penny of it because it went into a THIEVES pocketGRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
I hope one day they will pay the price.That day cannot come soon enough.

My husband .got a call from this number who asked him various questions. they rang a few days later saying that they would like to send him a copy of SAPPHIRE MAGAZINE and a voucher for £20 FOR PETROL.i asked how they would have to take the £1 that they needed for postage. They said that they would need ti have told them wo have a credid card or debit card ,but they woulld encript the numbers. This smelt of a scam.They rang again today, i have told them we are not intrested..they will keep tryingBEWARE of this

Telephone call -mag for 1.00 and petrol vouchers thought it worth a go !Do Not do it. Have rang bank to cancel any debit going out to this company -tried to telephone cannot get through to them and have also e mailed them.H.ate these [***] who do this

Got caught by a scam asking for bank details for Sapphire magazine idiot that I am gave them. Contacted my bank and because it's on your debit card you cannot stop it

Yes, I fell this stupidily. I am a TPS member and have complained to them about illegal cold calling and their selling technique of mentioning cancer charity !  Rang my bank and had a stop put on any money going out of my account - get company number from £1.00 debit info on statement..Could not get through on telephone but  e mailed them -said if they tried to take money after I have cancelled this subscription I would be treating this as attempted fraud and that my bank had been informed. Received e mail back almost immediately saying subscription was now cancelled but I will be keeping a close check on  bank account !!!!!This has been a steep learning curve causing a good deal of worry will NOT fall for this again !

Fell for this due to the mention of cancer charity . Inform your bank to put a stop on money going out. Also call TPS or go and see their web site to make a complaint about Sapphire cold calling techniques . You can also complain  if you are a TPS member that they have illegally cold called  you.
I e mailed them and said I wanted to cancel and that any money taken out of my account would be treated as attempted fraud - reply came back of cancellation almost immediately !!!!

Called from this number, given a customer care number to call 0843 5070707 to cancel a magazine subscription.  Now see online that this is a scam.  I cannot believe I have been so gullible.

My granddad was telling me about this the other month! He went ahead and did it (before he told me), so I decided to check it out. Anyway when it came he actually liked it, but couldn't afford it so he canceled by email because the woman on the phone told him he would need to if he didn't want it. He only got charged £1 and he seems pretty content, i don't understand how it's been blown so out of proportion?! After all, scammers are scammers and if they were going to steal all your money, they'd do it, not just take £79?!!

just had same call, told them to get lost.

Its called Sharpe practice, I would say that the yearly subscription price is £80 hence the £1 postage and then the £79 the problem seems to be they are taking this straight away in most cases and they probably hope that people wont try for a refund as its to much trouble.
