I was called at 7pm last night and offered the chance to subscribe to a brand new Lifestyle Magazine via the Sapphire Company. It would cost me £1 and I would also receive a £20 petrol voucher.  If after recieving the magazine and within 14 days I wished to cancel then I could do this and no further money would be taken.  If I wished to continue then 69.99 would be taken from my account.  The £1 would be going to a cancer charity and having just lost my mum to cancer I fell into the trap.  Amy in Cardiff who had called me and was VERY convincing with her telephone patter must be laughing her head off at my stupidity.  
Luckily having realised how foolish I had been by giving them my long card number I immediately rang the bank and cancelled all my cards.  I have also contacted the fraud squad and have emailed the BBC Watchdog programme who are very interested in this scam.
Let them just try and call me again!

have been getting nuisance calls for months.  This is sixth today, but first I have lifted phone for.  I feel
something has to be done at national level, or internationally.

Have been called twice so far today, fortunately I use my answer machine to screen calls and they hang up without leaving a message. I'm regestered with the TPS but this doen't seem to do much good.

Usual survey con with follow up phone call. Depending on my mood and time available I have a few courses of action to take but my favourite for the follow up call is to keep them on the line for as long as I possibly can, and giving slightly inaccurate information. My record so far is 19 minutes.
My latest call, from Sapphire Magazine (which if you Google it is a magazine for Lesbians) ended immediately after I asked her not to read from a script and answer a question.......................

There is no subscription charge for this website.    You would need to contact the people with whom you have taken out a subscription arrangement for whichever service that might be.      Otherwise the charges will just keep on coming from them.

I got caught out earlier today. I was having a snooze and was rudely awakened by the phone. Needless to say I fell for it, but I soon came to my senses and contacted my bank straightaway.  Unfortunately the bank can't do anything until money is taken from my account.  Hopefully, the people that carry out these scams will be tracked down and prosecuted.  As soon as £1 is taken from my account I'll get in touch with my bank and see if they can trace these scam merchants.

I almost fell for this tonight, got half way through reading my card number but just had a "bad" feeling about it and refused to give the girl any more details.  After reading comments on here thank goodness I didn't continue!!

I received this number from my bank 084445671020 and I got through to them but it w3as a complete waste of time. You can try it if you wish.  I feel to ashamed with myself to talk about it.

I received my magazine yesterday, have tried to cancel but it won;t let me.  I think this is a con. Will know have to contact my bank to stop the £79.99

I am hoping that I can stop the  money going out of my account.  Did you try to do that?

Just been contacted by sapphire magazine , offering £20 voucher for petrol or diesel and £1 for p &p, didn't take them up on offer , next time they call can tell them to get stuffed know now its a scam. Feel sorry for people who have been ripped off by them.

i to have had £1.00 taken & after i rang and cancelled the sapphire magazine they've taken 79.99!! am going to try to sort it this morning - i'm not normally so daft - but they caught me this time.

I got a call from a polite man and took what I  thought was a magazine not a 'membership' club.  Sadly I was ill with tonsillitis so was unable to block the £79.99 and have been told that they have decided not to refund.
As I am unemployed this is especially irksome...Any tips?

Had an encounter with this company, As a fool i did the 14 day trial cancelled within the trial period, still had the money take. I Phoned them and complained spoke to someone called bethan, was like talking to a stroppy teenager, she was rude and telling me ( The Customer) that i am wrong, after requesting the manager who is never there i requested the call recording to prove the money was unlawfully taken, after listening to this i knew i was right and demanded a refund before i take the matter further. have to now wait up to 28 days for the refund. Took them no time to remove the money but takes them 28 days to refund it! Will never make that mistake again! This company is a waste of time people BEWARE!

Got a call from Sapphire Magazine, asking me for £1 for mag & petrol voucher.

Was glad I said no after reading posts on here.

Just like those before me I have been scamed asked for the £1 and they would send  me a mag needless to say I have had nothing and they took £79 99 from my bank I have made anumber of calls to 08445671020 NATASHA was her name which is also another scam I suspect Now contacting CID and Trading Standards.
