Have several calls from this number every day, on my landline.  Have never had any Halifax/RBOS/Sainsbury's accounts, or debt; however, previous tenants owed a lot of money to various people (although this is a new phone no).
Have never had a chance to give false details, as they never speak when they call.

Having looked through the various other comments, I rang Halifax (HBOS) on 0113 235 7171 (Credit Cards collections) (found via http://www.saynoto0870.com/companysearch.php), choosing options that I owed money, then that I 'had recently paid, but was still receiving communications' from Halifax.

I explained politely that I was receiving numerous phone calls from First Assist, but the previous tenants (the debtors) had absconded a couple of years ago.  The Halifax chap seemed to think nothing abnormal of this, asked which number was calling (gave the 084458112014 number); he then simply asked for my telephone number, and said that I wouldn't receive any more calls!

I then asked to confirm that First Assist did indeed work for Halifax, and that the calls amounted to harassment (and that I was registered with the TPS).  He accepted that First Assist were their agents, but became quite uneasy.  As I believed I had got as far as I was likely to, I informed him that I have also told BT to forward any further calls from this number to my local police station!  ;-)

I hope this works; it was worth a try.  I'd also encourage everyone to register the harassment with Ofcom: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/complain/landline/nuisance/silent/?itemid=284912

Just wanted to add - BT users can block any specific number to their phone, by using the 'Choose to Refuse' service, AFAIK.  I have heard it is free for the first month, then £8 per quarter thereafter, but perhaps we can push BT into providing this service for free in special circumstances?

It involves simply dialling 14258 then ** after receiving one of these nuisance calls, from which point they will now receive an automated message if they try to ring you!  (Or you can specify the numbers to bar, manually; Google 'Choose to refuse'.  Good luck!

They called over the weekend twice --- I hate that I'm getting pested at home --- why can't they just leave a message --- it can't be that difficult and it's not rocket-science.  Halifax should do something about this or I'm changing my number.  Is it possible to block them off!

I reckon this could be the Halifax. One of my offspring at uni is always up to the neck of her overdraft with the Halifax, and that number has just called here but I didn't get to it in time before my ansaphone cut in and the call ended. I reckon the problem with this instance and some others like it is that respectable enterprises hive off the chasing up of money owing etc to less than pleasant companies, and the latter mix the business of chasing up debtors with flogging other products, thus some calls are legitimate and others will be a try on. Have a look at Debenhams store card sometime. From some evidence available to me they look to use GE Money for cash recovery purposes and the latter can be a PITA to all and sundry, not just those with a few bob owing on their card payments. A glance elsewhere on this site will give you plenty of evidence of their nuisance value. Until we can have phones where we can dictate which numbers will be accepted (as with emails on the pc) we will be fair game to the less than welcome/totally rude callers. But, who in the communications industry will manufacture such a product? Telesales companies etc, would go out of business overnight, and BT et al would lose millions.

    Dear sir or Madame,

I am writing to express my serious concerns regarding the telephone calls that I have received from your company.

I am now formally requesting that all futher correspondence be made in writing only.

I demand that these phone calls stop immediatley.  I am familiar with the terms of Section 40 of the Administartion of Justice Act 1970, and the Protection from Harassment Act 1970 and I believe your harrasment places you in breach of these acts.

Take futher note that continued telephone call after the receipt of a request not to call may constitute a criminal offence under Section 127 of the Communications Act 2003.

hi all this is a company calling on BEHALF of the halifax chasing payment for overdue bills... i have am not paying the bill and have no intention of paying the bill.  Halifax dont admit to knowing this number as it is a third party, but they are chasing payment...  what has pissed me off is they are now contacting my parents where i haven't lived for nearly 6 years and trying to drop hints as to why they are calling and saying that this is the only number they have which i believe is in breach of the data protection act.  they are very rude to my mum  who tells them i have not lived at that address for over 5 years and we didn't have our credit cards with halifax when i lived there.  so they have used my maiden name to harras my mother.  what a company hey!!!  fcuk you try and get your money out of me now you [***]!!!! i am being called up to 10 times a day on my mobile and home phone and 3 times a day at my parents house

I just received a phone call from this number at 8:30 in the morning on a saturday. My ex recieved a text with a reference number think this is in relation to owing them. I've had a bad debt manager ring Halifax twice and have similar issue with MBNA who have also been spoken to and companies have agreed to reduced payments twice. Why they are texting my ex i don't know. we never had a joint account, or even lived together this is in breach of data protection surely? must have got details from when he has transferred money over for our son? any suggestions as to stop this, written to them both after my bad debt manager spoke to them over the phone?

Same as others. For a few days last week (over Christmas) I had a large number of missed calls on my mobile, so next time they called I answered, they ask for security info etc. NEVER GIVE INFO !
I had 14 calls one day, even on a Sunday I got calls as late as 8pm (is that legal).
I haven't had calls for a few days now, I think it might be a collection agency. I changed Direct Debit from one bank to another. Otherwise doesn't make sense and might be scam.
