Report a phone call from 08445811014 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- ClareThe caller knew my name and that I was a Halifax customer. She wanted my 'personal security numbers' so I hung up straight away. When I reported this in person to my Halifax branch, they stated the call was nothing to do with them, and recommended I report it to my phone provider. They referred me to this page. I am not in arrears with my credit card payment and settle in full each month.
- Jaycalled today by this number but didnt answer, called back on my landline and got automated message. First part was said so quickly i couldnt make out who they are but say they call on behalf of halifax and RBOS, had a number to call if you want to be taken off the list and to ask for Yyvonne. I called it and similar message, couldnt make out the first bit but they then said i am not eligible to be taken off thier list. How the f*ck do they know, i hadnt even told them who i was.
called halifax who i do have an account with and they said do not give out any info, it is bogus. So, when you next get a call, give them completely micky mouse postcode etc and see if they go along with it. waste thier time, reminds me of that black dude George off FoneJacker. "There is a pigeon in your account!" haha - TeagueI have received loads of calls from this number. Over a 2 week period I would say I have received around 36 calls. This includes Saturday morning at half 7.
- JayThey called me again! so i answered and spoke to some nigerian lady (i guess) who knew my name and apparently my address and date of birth. She asked me for those details so i gave her incorrect ones and she said thats not the information she has. I asked again where she was calling from and she said the Halifax, i said ok and let her carry on. she needs me to confirm who i am by giving her my DOB, i said i dont need to confirm who i am, she rang me! i then spilt the beans and said i wanted to know where she was calling from, again "Halifax" i said i dont believe her and she couldnt get off the phone quick enough. i had to say wait about 5 times to stop her hanging up and demanded that she tell me her name and exactly where she is. She replied in a broken english / nigerian accent that she was calling from halifax about an urgent business matter. I said i dont own a business. She said ok, dont worry and it doesnt matter, i asked why the call about an urgent business matter if it is not important. she was stumped and said dont worry, dont worry! i said im reporting this to Halifax and she said no no no! i am halifax! we'll see, let her hang up.
dont give any details out, make up micky mouse ones and see if they have the correct details first. even if they have your dob and address dont trust them, anyone can find this info out nowadays. - Mr JThis number called twice in the last 12 hours. First time a man, second a woman, both with West African (Nigerian?) accents. They claimed to be from the Halifax and wanted security details off me! As I have no connections with the Halifax it is clearly a scam of some description.
- Caller: Halifax
- FedUP!!Called on: 08445811014 claiming Halifax, and later got a silent call from 07061729545. Then had a call just now from 02031035180, claiming Bank of Scotland. They cant of bought my details from any UK bank, as i do NOT have one.
They must be buying UK based Phone Numbers instead. - WoollyHave been plagued by calls from this number. Spoke to Halifax. They are completely aware of this scamming and their advice is as you expect, don't reveal anything. However, when the scammers called again - I got really irate and said I wanted to speak to the supervisor, apparently she was in an important meeting and unavailable. Then I got called again from an Irish woman, who went thru the spiel and I went thru mine. 'No, I'm not going to give you my details - why would I!?'. She then replied with 'well, we'll send you a letter.' And that was it. I got called again after that and I said - 'why are you calling me when you've already said you're going to be sending me a letter??! Stop calling me!!'. And so far (today) the calls have stopped. Have a go and see how it might work for you.
- Caller: Wouldn't say
- WoollyForgot to add that they've been calling me on both my home number and mobile. I have no idea how they have both numbers!
Also I'm TPS so they shouldn't have my numbers.
Strange.- Caller: Wouldn't say
- djyGetting repeated calls supposedly from Halifax credit card asking for personal details - address and date of birth. Stopped them at this point. Sounded like African accents.
- Caller: Halifax
- PRIVATEGetting loads of calls PER DAY from 08445 811013 - as reported above, no one speaks when I answer, and I hear them hang up - nor do they leave a message. Must be really important then.....
- PRIVATEPS I just pick up the phone and hang straight again up now, I've GOT a life! Wish these idiots would get one too :)
(NB THE NUMBER CALLING ME IS 08445 811013 NOT 08445 811014 so watch out for that one too!) - NeoGlad I checked on here to see what this number was, had about three calls in the last 12 hours on my mobile, agggghhh I have unplugged the landline. Why are RBS saying it is a scam if it is them who have sold on the details of their customers to these people? At least I know what it is now, the last time my phone rang I didn't answer and thank God they left a message cause it was a job offer!!!
- Emma BaillieI have ecalled by this number about 5 or 6 times over the past 2 days. I have never answered, and no voice mail was left! When they rang the telephone number was all that was displayed.
- NeoLooks like it's my turn again today, I've had 5 calls in the last few hours,I haven't answered any of them and it's driving me nuts, maybe I should call them and tell them I know it's a scam but I'm kind of hoping that they will get bored if I ignore it!! Aggggghh!!
- alarmed and annoyed!!Just called Halifax tonight as this number has called 3 times, not professional ...Halifax has had complaints today regarding these calls, the chap i spoke to said that this is NOT HALIFAX,Do not give any personal details to these callers.
Halifax are looking into it!17/4/08- Caller: halifax?
- Mr CheeseIf you receive any phone calls from anyone claiming to be Halifax First Direct they are under investigation at the moment for either being a scam to gain personal details or a ’scrape data and sell’ outfit for a disreputable nuisance-calling insurance company. It’s not really clear which.
The numbers that they may be calling on include:
02031035180
02031035179
08445811014
08445811015
08701287341
But they can change numbers all the time.
Their business model
Get a database of numbers from somewhere.
Set up an autodialling service so that random numbers are dialled every few seconds.
When one of these numbers is answered, patch them through to Random Bangladeshi (cheap labour).
Get them to confirm that the name on their database is correct and then put the phone down abruptly.
Wait a couple of days then add that number to a ‘data clean list’ for numbers that ‘are who they say they are’.
Start the autodialling process again.
When the number is answered patch them through to Sweet Northern Lass (more expensive but can do the convincing job).
Hard-sell the person on the end of the line some useless service or product using a ‘verbal contract’ that is binding even though not in print (’recording for training purposes’ - rubbish, that’s for legal purposes).
Put the phone down and repeat.
What can you do to stop it?
Register with the Telephone Preferential Service but it wouldn’t help you much in this case.
When you receive a call and don’t recognise a number, try to google them before answering. That’s a bit paranoid, but I’ve found it useful. Particularly a service called Who Calls Me that lists nuisance and scam calls.
When you get a call listen for the ’slightly too long bit of silence’ at the beginning and for a very ‘thin sounding’ phone line. These are telltale signs that you’ve been put through to someone at random via an auto dialler. The silence is the time it takes the system to realise it’s ‘got one! w00t!’ and to connect them to a human. If you hear that, just put the phone down.
In response to the question “Is that Mr. Your Name Here?” respond with “Who is calling please?” If they give you some crap about ‘I’m calling to update our records’ just tell them you’re not interested.
If in doubt pull the ‘deceased’ card. If you tell them convincingly enough that the person they are trying to reach has died they will remove you from the list.
Do you get those ‘totally silent’ calls? That’s because there aren’t enough humans to go round at that point, so it can’t connect you and just leaves you hanging. These are illegal and these Halifax First Assist guys have also been doing that. Report these numbers on Who Calls Me.
Don’t give out any information that they don’t already have. These people want your data for whatever reason and that has a price tag. Don’t give your info to anyone unless you know what company they represent.
Don’t give out your personal information before they give you something that you can confirm with them. This is called ‘challenge and response‘ (Like in spy films where they say “The red camel flies at midnight” and in response, “so the goose must take to the east”). If they really _are_ your bank they’ll be able to offer you some information back. Something like, my birthday was in 1972 - what day of the month was it? If they can’t answer then they are not your bank or don’t have an adequate data protection system in place.
The ideal system would be for all of our banks to have some kind of public password that you give _them_ so that if they phone up and say the word “chicken suit” in response to your question “what am I wearing” (or in fact a number of questions) then you can be a little surer they aren’t data thieves.
Ask to be removed from their database. This won’t help against the criminals but any commerical organisation would be unwise to keep ringing uninterested people.
Leave Halifax. I am going to. It’s just not done giving away my details to a company like this.
Give them grief. Don’t take this lying down. Get angry but not ferocious. Don’t swear or threaten but make them feel your wrath. Tell them that their client has now lost you as a customer and you will be moving banks. Tell them that they should quit their useless and pointless jobs and go and do something worthwhile with their time in this world. - AnonymousI have been receiving calls from this number for a week and i'm pissed off as hell. I do not even have a halifax account and that Asian man they keep asking for certainly does not live in my house!! The first guy who called didn't even know who he wanted to speak to. He just kept giving me variations of the same name. Needless to say, my patience wore thin and i gave him a mouthful. They can't even seem to understand the simply phrase 'wrong number' and just keep calling. I've reported them to TPS twice but hasn't made any difference!
- SionI got a call a minute ago from this number. An irish lady asked to speak to me, saying she was calling from the Halifax. I refused to confirm it was me, then she said she would "pop the information in the post". I hope they call back, im going to string them along, make them jump through hoops!
- MooreI receive about 25 calls from this number a day. How should i bar it?
- SnoozyHad two of these this morning, missed the first one, no message was left. Answered the second one and a woman asked to speak to my ex husband. I told her it wasn't his number, she hung up.
I'd hazard a guess at this being Halifax related.
