I phoned the number 0845 030 4455 that was mentioned a few messages ago, and the woman who answered (Diane) took a note of my number and said she would arrange to have it removed from their records....... I'll wait and see

I find this rather worrying if the line remains engaged even after you have replaced the receiver.  What happens if you need to make an emergency 999 call?  Don't these people realise that they could be taking someone's life?
I received one of these calls yesterday, but dialled 9 immediately.  However I didn't check whether the line was closed or not afterwards.
Perhaps this is a matter that should be reported to the police.

Had this call at 10:49 today on a Saturday answered it but went dead. To those moaning about TPS if they are calling from outside of the UK TPS doesn't apply making it worse than useless for most nuisance calls...

Receiving daily calls from an automated 'service' by 'Santander on behalf of Debenhams' from this number. They are chasing a debt which has absolutely nothing to do with me. The trouble is that I can't make out the last name of the person they are chasing so I can just imagine the runaround I'll get if I phone them up to complain!

So we've had the annoying Talk Talk from Indian and S-Africa, and thinking it was them, despite ringing Talk Talk in the UK and being taken off marketing, takes 28 days, I rushed to do my silly foreign sounding accent, but no, answer like machine message thing.

I pressed the 9 and it ended.

I only have it for Broadband, seriously thinking just unplugging the phone, but do have a sister might, though rare call, have no one else really, but annoying when harassed all the time so much, one has to consider giving up having a phone at all.

Got a call this morning, automated voice asking for me to take part in a market research survey, dial 9 to end the call which I did. Phoned 1471 and the the voice was still rabbiting on and on and on.

As another person has mentioned this could be dangerous, and is almost certainly illegal if your in need of any emergency services.

Also with TPS but still these types of calls get through.

This number called at about 11:38 on Friday 16th September 2011. This is literally 3 minutes after the last unsolicited call! It was a pre-recorded message about taking part in a survey about house insulation. The voice was of a Scottish female accent. I am signed up to the TPS, so this would be a violation of that, I suppose.

Extra note: This call requested that I press various buttons, and when I hung up, the call did not end. When I went to dial 1471, the call was still going! I had to use the phone's R key to dial out. This is very frustrating and I imagine it would cause more vulnerable people discomfort.

Had a call to my business phone I am an estate agent and have been getting a few calls from the same number 08450304400 when i googled the number it comes up as UPS but the man on the other end of the phone asks to view a property and when asked for his details he puts the phone down. I am registered with TPS why does this happen?

i have several calls from this number despite being on a cold call list for several years dont really know who it is net dont answer call centre numbers

Virgin Media can/will do nothing about it, TPS means jack...what can I do?

I want these calls to stop, I'm sick of them. They shouldnt have my number on there data base. you rush to answer .the phone in case it's a call from family or a friend needing help only to  find out that it is someone trying to sell you something or survey that is being done in the area..

Like everyone else - this recorded message rang my ex-directory!  Continues even on hanging up. Reading the other posts its either:
Clydesdale Market Research. OR
Hot House Energy OR
Powergen.

Apparently BT traced / checked the number to identify Powergen.

I feel sick.  This is my third landline number in less than 3 years and I went without connecting my phone line for several months in between each change, but we have no rights?!?!.

I'm off directory and registered TPS. Got called by 08450304400 did not press anything. They gave up in 59 sec. No matter Ofcom etc cannot do anything; let's report it to everyone so many of us they get fed up and stop all this! Of course those whose line has been engaged for long had been put a risk in case of emergency.

Had a message fielded by the BT answer service. Again, offering £50 M&S voucher as a prize. Again the automated robot lady indicated that pressing 9 would stop them ever ringing again. And then it was the opening question of if I have brought an electrical item based on it's energy rating. As it's the BT answer service there is no response. So robot lady asks again. Big surprise, still no response. Call was ended. I'm fairly certain I had a call from the exact same robot lady about 6 months ago. So it looks like they are going back through their numbers. Time to go over to TPS web site and fill in a complaint.

Had a look at the TPS web site. In short, they say complaining to them won't get anything done, as all they do is pass on a report to the "Information Commissioner's Officer" (ICO).

However the ICO are willing to take complaints...
