I have Truecall and just looking through my phone logs of incoming calls for the last month and these guys number are in my list.  With reading the replies given here, someone mentioned "Energy Saving"  - Recently just before xmas I bought a new washing machine which was A++ rated (ie.. energy saving)  I can only assume the company I bought my appliance from gave my number to said company and they're doing research on why I bought an energy saving appliance..

I am not 100% on the above but can only assume with the presumed context of the callers questioning (energy saving)  I have never received a call from this number before and I always check my phone logs.  I can only put 2 and 2 together and come up with the above.

Pretty cheeky of the company I bought my washer from to pass on my phone number, any how makes no difference to me as that market research company never got through to ring me anyway.  They have been added to my zap list, even though they didn't manage to ring me.  They will instantly be cut off next time they try.

The point I was trying to get across was that the Data Controller. i.e the person calling you. can ONLY use the information for the purpose for which it was obtained.

If a "Market research" or "Survey" company calls you then that's ALL they can use the data for.
If they subsequently sell on any information which can be used for identifiable purposes (phone numbers and names are identifiable information) then they are breaking the data protection laws and the ICO can fine them £5000.

Email them and be polite, more likely to get them to leave you alone and not spam you again just to spite you if you are abusive.

I doubt the company had anything to do with it. Numbers are generated randomly by a computer and I had a call today, the last time I bought any white goods was about 4 years ago.

These companies are just parasites, this type of annoyance should really be sorted out once and for all.

Automated survey bot....no point in repeating the same info, it seems all too common judging by the list here. I am ex-directory, unlisted, TPS registered etc but these people seem to be auto-generating the number then dialing it, not getting it from any lists.

No doubt the scumbags in the marketing industry will tell anyone who will listen that some people actually WANT to be interrupted at tea time with a survey call after going to the effort of explicitly opting out of all marketing phone services.

These people need their phone lines disconnected.

Be polite? You think that will work? They randomly generate numbers KNOWING folks don't like to be called, and call them anyway. Responding to them is like responding to any spammer. They know they have an audience, and they now have an email address to sell. The result is that you won't stop the original nuisance, you multiply it.

They have no intention of respecting the law or peoples wishes not to be harrassed.

Claimed they were doing a short survey specifically targeted at my area.

These folk are parasites and I actually feel sorry for the poor beggars who end up working for them.

I feel only contempt for the people who runs these companies as it would not hurt were they to not contact those registered with TPS instead of exploiting them.

Where did you get My number ?
I have been ex-Directory for over 20 years and never put my number on forms.

and saying market research is not covered by TPS is a cop out, if like Me, People are registered with TPS it means

THEY DON'T WANT BOTHERED BY COLD CALLERS

    any cold cold callers

I just left the phone down and walked away, till I heard the BT signal for an open phoneline .

I have changed my number, and YET again i get these calls. Aparrently BT or other phone companys sell on phone numbers to other companys. I've done the 9 and still get calls, i've phoned back and to them to take my number off their list, i admit i have on more than one occasion told them where to go! but the last straw came when i was waiting for an inportant call from my sister concerning my parents my line was engaged because of these pain in the [***] companys, i wont repeat what i said.

Phoned an XD and TPS registered number at 1519hr yesterday.  Recorded message from ? survey company - didn't catch the name.  Press 9 to remove your number.

It's beneath contempt that survey companies should be exempt from the Telecomms Marketing Regulations - they are just as big a nuisance as any other unsolicited call.

I went to 'phone someone and found I had a message - a recording talking to my answering service.  It seems they want to insulate and put solar panels on my multi storey council flat.  I never give my landline number out to businesses but I keep getting calls for the couple who gave my number up over 3 years ago.  It goes to show that, once you tell a company your number, it's passed around and kept in systems forever.  I get lots of annoying sales calls on my mobile but, somehow, I find that less obtrusive than calls to my home.

And people are suckers enough to e-mail them and give them even more information???

    In a word: DON'T!

Bit worried that this website is falling for it as well by allowing them to get away with it.

These people are obviously using a computer to auto-dial numbers. I work in a large government building in an office where we all have our own phones. As such, our numbers are all roughly a digit or two apart and we have all had the same call at some point over the past few weeks. My advice is to treat them the same way as you should treat the random sales texts - ignore them if you can and and don't respond in any fashion.
