I just received such call. The lady claimed that she was from british gas, and wanted to win back customer. I told her that I am still with British Gas. She kept asking my home address and post code, such like, saying this was to confirm that I am living in the same address as the record she had. I refused to give her my address. And then she said she will keep calling me if I am not giving her my address. Funny, uhh?

Finally, she gave up after I was repeatedly saying that I won't give her my address.

This is just junk calls trying to find people's personal information, and use this information to do something that I don't know.

I have now had two calls from this number. Apparantly it's British gas who I have never had any dealings with. I just don't answer 0845 numbers

Everyday for the past week so far I have had calls from these people - sometimes twice a day! If it carries on I will be blocking the number. i am not a British Gas customer - pleas stop calling me!!
Googled the number and came up with British Gas.

The number this forunm is for is linked to British Gas' British Call Centers.  SO either Cardiff Leeds Manchester or Southampton will have phoned you.  The most likely outbound called you to let you know there is an outstanding debt or your dd has increased or for your homeservice account. the only way BG would phone you is if you have given them your number and have given us concent through marketing concent.... Something we have to leagally ask everyone of our customers. They have decioded to launch these campaignes as part of actively acting on our customer feedback.  Customers have asked for this service as they feel letters and bills that aren't explaiend are not personal and can be intimidating.  These callers have no targets so won't be upset if you simply say you have no time right now.
They wouldn't phone at 2am the outbound dialler only operates between 8am and 8pm mon to fri and 8am-6pm on Sat.
If you DON't have an account with BG you may need to call the general department to find out how we have your number.  We don't bye telephone number like a lot of company's we only get them through customers giving them to us.

Also if they phone calls get annoying the best way to stop them is to phone the general department on a FREE 0800 number, 0800 048 0101, and simply ask them why they are phoning you and politely ask them to remove your number from the dialler.  simple as that

Received call from 0845 0700827 saying he was from British Gas. Refused to say what he wanted until I gave my name. I suggested he was one of 100s of people paid to annoy us when we are busy living our lives and that he stopped wasting my time. The person then became shirty. I asked for his name number details of company etc so that I could complain, and he put the phone down.
I am not with British Gas but was several years ago. They know there is no customer at my phone number so they should not be allowed to make unsolicited calls in this way.

I've had about half a dozen calls from this number in the last two days. I've tried calling it back but it's a recorded message saying 'calls to this number are not being connected'.

These people called me 2 times, saying they are from British Gas and informing me that my electricity account has been taken over by Southern Electric.
Then trying to set up a new direct debit.
I think this is all some sort of trick to get your bank details of you.

I have been getting calls for this number up to 5 times per day, every week day for the last few months.  I have never been with British Gas, so have no idea how they got my number.  It's harassment!

Whoever they are, they have been calling me for a few days now, never leave a message and when I try calling this number back it doesnt work and asks me to check the number. I will register with TPS because this is annoying.

Called at 09:46, picked the phone up after a couple of rings and it went dead.  Bloody annoying!

2 calls from this number today.  One whilst I was out, the second just now - line went dead when I answered it.

I have just changed company for my gas supply so this must be my punishment!

This number keeps on calling and calling and calling.... nightmare.  I never answer when I don't know who it is and always surf this site for comments.

I'm getting 3 calls a day, we were only with British Gas for a month when we first moved into our house a year ago. I think I had to give them my number when we switched, but I'm finding it very unsettling.

Keep getting polled by this number every few days!

Been called a number of times for the last week, finally spoke to an Indian rep after the usual pick up delay. Said he was from British Gas offering me a electric/gas fixed deal and asked who I get my gas through, as I'm not with them. I am with British Gas so, as he didn't know that, I told him I didn't want to speak to him.

This number keeps calling me, I have no idea who this is, I have always been either too busy or out when it happens and been unable to answer, but now I am too nervous to do so. Can anyone enlighten me has to who it could be please.

it's 21st of November 2008. I've goy few calla. I've called breitish gas. If any of you got that call you can go to the court with it. I know the law and i can proove it because I'm an IT technician. It is became really ennoyed so I've decided to go to the court if I recieve more calls from them.

I too have my calls filtered with the TPS - but British Gas manage to get through, so I phoned 08450700828 to stop their nuisance calls, only to hear a long prerecorded message which informed me that I was paying for that very call! The cheek. They don't even pipe gas to my street.

Am so sick of this company filling my answerphone with silent messages meaning I am missing important calls. I am registered with TPS and never allow anyone to pass on my details. I have complained to BG, OffCOM and TPS.
All seem fairly ineffectual.

New idea: if they waste our time maybe we can waste there's. Feign interest. Ask them to send information. Send someone round. Don't ever sign up for anything to do with them.
A call or a complaint barely costs them any money. Trying to switch and failing will cost them a lot more.
Just a thought.

This was the complaint I sent to BG:

I am being plagued by silent calls from 08450700827 which I understand is a British Gas sales number. They have filled my answerphone memory several times meaning I have missed urgent and important calls. I am registered with the TPS and have never given permission for you to contact me. I am hearby formally telling you that I do not want you to call me again. If you do call me again I will be very very very very very very upset and angry. So whoever reads this needs to actaully do something about it. I mean you! Right now! Don't just sit there reading it actually get on to your boss and insist they get on to their boss and keep escalating this complaint until someone within your organisation stops this abhorent and probably illegal practice. You are still sat there reading this aren't you? That's not acceptable you need to actually DO something. And not do anything else until this problem is sorted.
I am not leaving my phone number as I do not want to give you any further excuses to call me. Suffice to say that if you screen your database against the TPS list of numbers you will find almost all the complaints you get will vanish overnight. That is the reason TPS was set up, to prevent companies shooting themselves in the foot by annoying potential customers and most of all to stop members of the public being plagued by unsolicited unwanted calls.
The internet is filled with experiences of people complaining about calls from your number. Do something about it now before people take the matter in their own hands.
