Claim to be Revenue and customs - who I called and who do not wish to speak to me!!
furthermore their number did not withold as is always the case with any Gov't Dept.

I rang them back and made up a name and NI Numner.
They typed in the nat Insurance Number and said that it was not coming up!!

This means that they seem to have a database of national Insurance numbers.

I got the samething about an hour ago and said that I was driving and to phone back at 1030 today (16/01). Nothing yet, bit concerenec as why would the number show up like that.

just phoned HMRC on 0845 3021414 which is on a self assesment statement that HMRC sent me, they say there is nothing that  anyone wants to contact me about and there is nothing on my records as having anyone contacting me.

Scam me thinks.

hi got a call from 08453003950 saying they are the revenue customs who they are

forgot to add that they called again from the same number and left a voice messege to phone back and they had quoted my personal tax number and said call back on another number 0845 3021427

However I phoned back my reginal office, they said no one had tried, maybe I should contact another sub-department. I contacted the sub-department in Kent, they said no one wanted me. so I am at a loss.


The chap calling has west scotland accent, but then I know HMRC have a big office in Cumbernauld.

still not  convinced.

Been plagued by this number for the past few days! Never answered and they have (until now) never left a message.  Scottish guy saying I need to call them back as a matter of urgency! They referec to me by my initials which I think is a bit funny too!  Is there anyway of reporting this to anyone?

Call from a Scotish woman asking me to call the next day with my NI number, very stern voice, very abrupt, didnt thank me or anything, not sure what to do ? Ignore it by the sounds of it !

Man called me on my mobile stating he was from HM Revenues & Customs. He stated he wanted my home tel no and dob. I told him to ring me back in 30 mins which he hasn't done.

Had message left on mobile number @ 19:05 from very stern scottish guy claiming to be from HMRC and quoting a reference number and stating he needed an URGENT call back with reference to a SERIOUS TAX MATTER by 8pm the following day. I have called the number left which is the same as the one reported here on this site.

Had this call at 07.00am, i didnt answer but i called them back, strong Scottish accent, they didnt want to say if they were tax credits, inland revenue or the vat, i said in that case i wont give any ref no. and i hung up

OK, Ive just found out its the Tax Credits Overpayment Debt Collection, so you guys which have been receiving these calls have been overpayed tax credits

For the people here receiving these calls, This is a bona-fide Tax Credits number. They want any overpayments of Tax Credits paid to you returned

Just got a call from this number, going to ignore it since if its anything legal they should prob send a hardcopy. Also, last time I had a call from them, I called them back (during a busy work day) because they said it was URGENT and it turned out they just wanted to remind me to fill in my self-assement!

Just received a call on my mobile, didn't get the call in time but they left a message. Sounded like an Asian man asking for my husband by his initials and surname. Asked him to contact them on 08453021420 before Monday 8pm with his national insurance number. We don't receive any tax credits!

recieved a call today at 12.07 from 08453003950, they left no message! But dont you think it's strange that they call on a saturday? and i also think it's odd how the number is shown? and i agree, if it was that important, where is the hard copy? too many government blunders of late, i will not give my details to anyone over the phone unless i ring them...will let you know if they ring back!

This is a definite scam, claimed from Revenue and Excise and they would work until 20:00 tonight. They would never call the line they did as that's not the telephone line that I gave to Revenue & Excise as I have multiple lines. As beside any company calls asking for date of birth and address is always 100% to be fraudulent call. The UK Banks never telephone customer like this , for example.

There are a couple of people above saying that this number is Tax Credits Overpayment Debt Collection and it is bona fide. This is utter rubbish as the call was made to a person who does not work and is a housewife. When you don't trust them they give you a number to call back which is 0845 302 1427.

These are Debt Recovery from Inland Revenue, i told them to send me details and they did. I passed the details to my Accountant and it all checks out
