I find it difficult to believe this is a genuine Barclays call as I have received three in quick succession today and I don't have and never have had an account with them. Will investigate further as I'm sick and tired of picking the phone up to these jokers

Strange . . . had a call from this number but, being suspicious, didn't press any keys. Instead, rang the number on the debit card and eventually got through to Barclays who informed me that there was a payment that hadn't yet been cleared involving a small sum - £2-odd - to an American company and did I recognise it.  As I did not, they have cancelled the card and are sending a new one.

The fact that several people on this thread are claiming thtat 0845-3512291 is a scam number is very odd. My advice would be to play it safe and contact the bank in the usual way, as I did.

The number is genuine, however do not believe me or anyone else on this site.  Simply ring the number on the back of your card and explain what has happened and they will transfer you to the appropriate team.

Often they'll spot a small payment request from abroad and this does not tie in with recent in country activity on your account and so this fits the fraud profile if this gets through then they hit you with a bigger payment request.  
Unfortunately if this is the case your card has been compromised and so will be cancelled and a new card issued 2-3 working days, no change of Pin number (I would change it at the next opportunity).

Called on this number on my mobile and my landline. Only info they ask for is  dob confirmation (from a list of four options). Listed five recent transactions including one 30 mins ago and asked me to confirm.

Just to be sure i confirmed this number on the Barclays website. 100% genuine, well done for your vigilance Barclays.

This is genuine. On Thursday 16th January 2014,I had two such calls over a short time period. I assumed it was a scam. But by the time the third message was left I was unsure. So I phoned my internet Banking at Barclays using their official security system. And yes it was genuine. My husband's debit card had been compromised in the USA. We live in London and had not been in the USA for many years. Barclays sensed unusual action and did not allow the requested transaction. Hope this helps

This number called me twice today, "pretending" to be Barclays Fraud, to confirm my latest transactions. It sounded like a machine talking to me. I put the phone down on them....Called Barclays security dept. and they confirmed not to give them any details.

I can confirm this because they took a £10,000 loan out in my name... Paid into my account... They then used this number to persuade me to 'cancel' payments that we're being fraudulently made. Turns out they were the fraudulent ones and we're trying to get me to MAKE payments using my Barclays Pincentry. Thank fully I'm pretty on the ball. They are very very crafty. I rang Barclays and they are now processing it. Cards cancelled etc. mind you... My balance looks decent! Lol

Got a call from this number today I already had another call the other day from 08453512288 both about the same fraudulent purchase on my Barclays debit card. I rang Barclays fraud department on another number I knew about and was informed that these two numbers are genuine but are answered by Barclays staff in Mumbai so it seems Barclays use Indian call centres.

This is Barclays Fraud, nothing dodgy about it. If you're calling back from a mobile don't call the 0845 number as you'll get charged premium rates, call their 0207 number instead which is 0207 071 0188. This number will also be in the message they leave you but they say it's only for people outside the UK, but it's not. 0207 numbers will be included in your contract minutes, 0845 numbers are not.

I had a call from this number about fraud on my Barclays account, and it gave me a number to call back.

The number it gave me was NOT a Barclays number, it put me through to Santander? I hung up immediately and called Barclays who had no idea of any fraud issue.

I received a call from this number but missed it, I checked online and found websites claiming the number was fraudulent. I went to the barclays website and used the Fraud number given: 0845 7555 555. I went through security and they confirmed that the fraud team had try to get into contact due to unusual activity on my account. However this was myself and there was no problem.

They are barclays fruad , my card was blocked and they called me to check if i did some transactions

I still dont know if this number is fraudulent or not, my daughter got a call from 08453512291 with an automated message asking her for what I consider personal details, I hanged up and called Barclays they were not aware of any such number but put us through to the fraud team they then said it was them calling as they suspected fraudulent activity, thankfully there was no fraud it was my daughter who had just bought something online. If they are going to use this kind of service they should at least make their staff and customers aware for f**k sake and make sure the number is on their website, furthermore it took us ages to get through to speak to somebody very bad customer service, although the adviser was friendly and polite

this number has called my mobile and land line 3 times today, I do not believe it to be from Barclays Bank, their numbers are different, also I have never given Barclays my mobile number. Barclays would write or email me asking me to get in touch, they would not telephone me. I have hung up or not answered this number.

They are barclays fruad. If you missed the call you can ring back on this number. There will be automated message asking to confirm few recently transactions. Not asking for any your personal details - just need to choose correct date of birth. Number is genuine.
