I can confirm 100% this number is a genuine Barclays Fraud Dept number.

I had an alternative number 0845 351 2291 ring my mobile which was automated and read out my full name (including my oft used third name). After hanging up I received a text message from Barclays Fraud Dept asking me to call back this number.

Anyway, calling the usual Barclays number 0845 755 5555 confirms that a recent transaction was suspicious. All sorted now :)

It turns out this MAY BE related to a 3rd party Fraud & Marketing company called Adeptra who assist Barclays (www.adeptra.com).

    * If you receive a call from this with a name that is not yours it's because the previous owner of that mobile hasn't bothered to inform Barclays of a number change *
    Caller: Barclays (possibly Adeptra)

I hung up on this call three time, as I thought that it could be a scam, but I was wrong, it was genuine. As I'd been making a few more internet payments than usual, the bank picked up on it as 'unusual' so they blocked my card for security reasons.

Had a voicemail from this number today, which worried me slightly as my card details have been used previously on PlayStation Network. I called back using a different Barclays number taken from their website, and they put me through to the fraud dept. The security questions asked were my age on next birthday (not actual DoB) and the location where my card is most commonly used (local pub, in my case). They explained that the system had flagged up a series of small payments to play.com traders and an even smaller payment, which is a monthly subscription to a charity. Because these payments were all small and online, they suspected they may have been 'test' withdrawals from fraudsters, who would then come back for more. Luckily the transactions they quoted to me were all genuine and the card has now been 'refreshed' (presume they'd blocked it until I contacted them but I haven't used it in the meantime). If in any doubt, I'd suggest you source your own number for Barclays and ring them on that.

It's not a scam,  me and my partner just booked a holiday and it was just Barclay's making sure it wasn't fraud.

Now I'm confused as I had this number call me this morning and left an automated message asking to call. I didnt call but called Barclays Telephone Banking and they advised that was no unusal transactions on my account, they transferred me to Barclays Online Banking who said the same and they then checked with the Fraud Department and they said they had not called. Thought it was a scam and now just received another call from 0845 351 2291 but they left no message???

ITS NOT A SCAM, its totally legit but its an automated service so it may come across as a bit dodge. They don't ask for any account details just to confirm your date of birth and then they read out a list of recent transactions that has taken place in your account and asks you to confirm these transactions were made by you. Its just to make sure there is no fraudulence going no in your account, they also call you if a big lump sum of money has been taken (direct debit) from your account. NOTHING DODGE.

It was a call from barclays, they called my mobile and then my landline... I had tried to purchase something online but it didnt go through, so I tried again a few times but still to no avail, however when I answered the call, it went through my transactions for the day and asked me to confirm if I had made these transactions myself, as I did, I was not put through to anyone, but this is a genuine call from Barclays.

I'm guessing they called as I tried to make the transaction online like 5 times, so i guess it looked dodgy to them

    It is Barclays.
Received a call from them on my landline, then on my mobile as i don't answer 08 numbers on the landline. Went through with the phonecall and it told me recent transactions which made me think it was genuine. However with checking my answerphone on the landline, my family had received another call, but for another member, not with Barclays, but from the same people which led me to think it was fishy. Then i decided to Google it and got scared by some of the comments, so took it upon myself to ring Barclays who confirmed it was genuine and unblocked my card.

So to confirm, this number is real and genuine and if you do not believe it for yourself, ring Barclays up and get them to confirm it!

I received a call from the number on 15/7/2011. Two transactions had taken place in America the day before with a clone of my card. Barclays Fraud called me on 0845 351 2291. From here I had my card cancelled, I have been down to the bank and opened another account and transferred all of my outgoings. The bank have been brilliant but cannot return the taken money to me until an investigation has taken place.

The number is genuine. Ignore it at your own risk. Our account didn't have a lot in it but it was cleared out, and it is a huge inconvenienced.

08453512291 is a valid Barclays fraud dept automated system phone number that dials the mobile number they hold on their records for you if they see unusual bank card activity. I dialled the fraud number from the main Barclays website and they confirmed this and resolved the queries on my account.

0845 351 2291 is a genuine call from Barclays fraud department.  I did not follow the instructions on the call to press any number to continue.  I was suspicious and hung up.  I did then ring my own Barclays number and got put through to the fraud prevention department.

It was a genuine call to check whether a cash withdrawal on my card was from me.  It was.

I told them I thought automated calls were a stupid idea, as people will naturally be suspicious and may well not follow it up, when it could genuinely be a fraudluent activity taking place on their account.

Even so, I recommend not answering any calls of these types, just in case, but contact your bank yourself straight away.

It IS Barclays fraud prevention number. I had been withdrawing quite a bit of money from different cash machines and today the ATM told me to contact my bank.

When I got home I had a missed call from this number.

I called it and it recognised it was me automatically. It asked me to choose my DOB from 3 options and then it gave me a list of transactions over various days and places and asked me to confirm that I had made them.

It was painless and I'm very happy about this service.
