Re: Harassment by telephone
ACCOUNT NUMBER: XXXXXXX
Dear Sirs
I am writing in relation to the quantity and frequency of telephone calls that I have received from your company, which I deem to be personally harassing.

- Dannithis number is halifax they have called me god knows hows many times day and night i went into my local branch to complain and was told i could use their phone to complain when i called i recieved dogs abuse from an asian man called who said i owed the bank 301 pounds for life insurance that i hadnt even set up this rude man kav then racialy abused me down the phone by saying aw well white trash its not our fault you cant pay your debt he then called me a cow and a [***] i am absolutely disgusted so much so that i have now moved banks DO NOT USE HALIFAX THEY ARE MONEY GRABBING VILE [***] THAT MAKE MONEY OFF GETTING THEIR CUSTOMERS INTO DEBT
- amyjadethis no. called this morning on my home no. (XD) asked for meby my first name only, i said 'speaking' then they hung up ?!?!?
I dont have acoounts with any of the companys they listed when i called the no. back. - dennyhave been recieving calls for the last 2/3 weeks at different times of the day,got to the point where i now leave my mobile on silence. i presume it is the halifax credit card, along with their other annoying number 0870 one, they seem to keep varying it between the two, hoping you might not realise. even though i have written to the halifax to say i am having difficulty paying, THIS LOT KEEP RINGING!!
- Martin08456029441- Started calling me yesterday at 8.45am (wed) and again at the same time today (thurs).
Can hardly hear the caller but what I could hear is that they sounded like bumbling idiots. Asked for my father by name yesterday then hung up before I could answer. This was odd but not as strange as them asking for Rob Wainwright today (ex Scottish rugby international, then telling me they were calling about fixing his water!
If they're trying to be all cloak and dagger about their calls they've got a lot to learn. They're the call equivalent of a man on a park bench with eye holes cut out of his newspaper....not difficult top spot! Morons! - jillThey started calling in December both landline and my mobile strange as halifax dont have this no. Rude, demanding wanted dob never ever give that out. Police recommend blocking the no on landline and change sim on mobile also to report to Trading standards for breach of user rights. Interesting they are an agency employed by Halifax to chase up their debts. Ignore they can write if necessary but they say it would cost so dont bother answering at all.
- jill addedlBeware Halifax after these calls my bank ac was emptied and in overdraft, they stole my money at atms in New York. I have now been paid back luckily and changed my card but will probably change my bank as trust is no longer there THIEVES the lot of them unfortunately.
- JohnHave received several calls per day over the past week, asking for a previous occupant. They keep promising our number will be removed from their system but they still persist in phoning us.
- Caller: Halifax/Bank of Scotland
- ChristineThis number is NOT halifax, the guy on the other end may say it is but they're not. I've just had a call from this number, the man had my name wrong and was asking for my password/account information. I refused, he tried to cajole me into it but I wouldn't so he hung up. I then confirmed witht eh real Halifax that it was not them calling, and I've checked their website - the number is not listed. Whatever you do don't give these people any information, they are scam artists!
- Halifax HaterThey are a collection agency instructed by Halifax, they phone me ever hour and a half until i pick up the phone, starting from 8.12am this saturday morning.
Some how when i changed over bank accounts last year, i managed to clock up £500 worth of charges? god knows how for an account i dont use anymore!!! - JonnyThis number keeps calling me too, I missed a credit card payment lately, although I bank with Nationwide and use a Nationwide credit card.
- MichaThese guys have been calling me for nearly a week now, not at the same frequency as some of the rest of you but still coming to about 10 calls now. I'm only 18, I owe £50 on an old account that had a direct debit coming out and no money in there. They didnt pay the debit just charged me for refusing it. Its been outstanding for just over a month and considering I only recived a bank statement for it a week ago and a letter letting me know I owed them 2 days ago i think its appalling that already theyre phoning me chasing it. Seriously is the Halifax that short of money that they need £50 off a student?!
Apart from anything else it's upsetting. This is the first time I've been in any sort of trouble at all and to have threatening people phone me at all hours is quite unsettling, especially considering that with the judgements I could claim it back afterwards anyway! I hate having someone phone me out of the blue demanding that I confirm who I am with my personal information when they cant even confirm who they bloody well are.
Seriously unhappy with this and if it continues I'll be transfering my accounts to another bank and complaining to whoever will listen. - RBRUS| 1 replyIt seems a lot of people are missing the point here that the people on the other end of the line aren't Halifax, RBS, Nationwide or any of the previously mentioned financial institutions. They are a 3rd party debt recovery service employed by the aforementioned. It's amusing that so many people's advice is to ignore them or change bank accounts rather than try to address the issue in a sensible manner. This thread displays a perfect cross section of modern financial attitudes in that it almost creates a microcosm of british (or at least western) society with regards to financial responsibilities. For years we've enjoyed extended interest free credit card offers, easily accessible loans and 100% LTV mortgages. Now that the credit crunch is hitting hard we all enjoy a dig at the banks for managing 'our' money irresponsibly. What percentage of visitors to this sort of thread have managed their own money responsibly? It would be a refreshing change for someone to post a reply saying "I know who it is calling me. I owe them money. I'll settle my debt and the calls will stop". Maybe then it would more appropriate to criticise the methods of agencies employed to collect the debt once the actual issue of the debt itself has been addressed.
No-one seems to want to take responsibility anymore. If we did, and lived within our means we wouldn't have anyone to blame and they wouldn't have anyone to chase. Might be a radical theory to some but it seems to make more sense than wasting our time quoting irrelivant American laws from Wiki answers! - MischaYou can't make assumptions about everyone here because you're feeling smug and superior.
There are pleanty of reasons why people get into debt, I owe them on an unathorised overdraft, like i said in my last post a direct debit came out of my account leaving me something like £2 in deficit, then that company tried a second payment, the bank refused and charged me £25 for it, that put the account over £10 in deficit so they charged me again (£25) for being in an unathorised overdraft. It is my fault, I'm young, the direct debit was for a payment on house insurance, I mistakenly thought that when I cancelled the policy the debit would be cancelled by them, I now know better, but the point is basically I'm ending up having to pay £50 because they said no to one direct debit of £15 value, I didn't ask them to take the charge from that acc, and had they asked I would have allowed them to take it out of my current acc which I get paid in to. I didn't worry about paying it because the interest on the debt was miniscule and when I had to wait until I was paid anyway, besides which I dont owe a massive amount and its only been outstanding for a month or so.
In the mean time the bank themselves have only contacted me once, by letter about it before passing on my details to an outside company who have since been harrassing me. I suffer from mild depression, having 3 or 4 calls a day from people who are rude, arrogant and insisting that I give them personal information terrifies me. If the bank had called me and sensibly said how do you want to pay it would be sorted. Instead I've been called by an african guy insisting that I prove who I am and give him details like my date of birth and mothers maiden name over the phone, it was scary and i really thought at first he was trying to scam me out of my money. I'm not entirely stupid, I wouldn't give that to any random guy in the street why should I give it to some random guy on the phone. Besides that he didnt try and talk me through it, he just hung up on me without another word.
Are you suggesting that calling people mulitple times a day, early in the morning and late at night, and being rude and unhelpful is the way to go about it?
I AM taking responsibility, its my debt and I'll pay it (I'll probably try and claim it back after as I'm sure my charges come under the ones which have been ruled unfair/unlawful) and I'll get on with my life, but I WILL NOT BE TREATED AS A CRIMINAL in the meantime. It is especially true that in times like this where people have less money and are loosing jobs that the banks need to be a little more sympathetic, afterall it does no one any good when people go bankrupt.
Oh, and I haven't benefitted from any loans, credit cards or anything like that. This is the first and only time I have ever been in trouble with anyone other than my parents. We're all human you know, why don't you get off your high horse and show a little compassion for your fellow man? - mikeWell I don't owe money, have an overdraft or overdue credit card balance with any bank or building society and I never have so why are they calling me on my mobile?
- RBRUSFirstly, no bank charges have been deemed to be illegal. The test case is still ongoing. Today it was announced that the banks' first attempt to appeal against the case has failed. This has all been to decide if it would be possible to start the investigation. The banks have one more appeal process that they will now use and if this is thrown out the case will finally begin to actually determine if the charges are fair or not. Nothing is actually decided yet and I'd be surprised if it was by the end of the year.
High horse? Smug? I've been in debt. Everyone has. I'm not claiming any superiority at all. In fact you are the first person to mention this. I attack the attitudes of the majority of the posts on this forum because of their "ignore it and it will go away" and "it's all the banks fault, I've done nothing wrong" stances!
I appreciate you saying that you will deal with this debt and genuinely hope that it doesn'rt affect your credit rating in the meantime but to say that the bank only sent one letter then passed it to an external agency to collect??? This is effectively selling on the debt for a fraction of it's original cost. After a couple of weeks? £50? Doesn't make sense at all. To start with you should have had advanced notice of any charges incurred. You don't have paperless billing do you? - MhairiEveryday now Im getting calls from this bunch from the bank, asking for someone else, I have explained several times that its a wrong number, and even contacted head office of Bank of Scotland to get the number removed.
Two days ago They called again after 9pm and I threatened to go to the banking ombudsman. Today Ive come home and theyve been on the phone again.
Really pissed off as Im Ex directory and registered with the TPS online folks.
What else can I do??? - MhairiAlso about my last comment, I dont even bank ith them and never have, I have no store cards or loans that I'm due money on, in fact I have no financial commitments with them at all and never have.

- crgnHo hum. I keep getting calls from them looking for the previous tenant (left nine years ago). I tell them that, offer them the letting agents' phone number and tell them not to call me any more. Surprise! They call back. The phone number given on page 2 or 3 here is probably the same company (First Assist) but that's their travel insurance claims department. They gave me the number 0845 0701956 to try during business hours. I think I may poke around a little more on the First Assist companies house registration and see if they have a decent head office number to use.
- steve grealisi've had over 20 missed calls from this number in just 1 week!
its really annoying, especialy when i'm working.
pease can somebdy help?
