This is Lowri Beck, an Electric and Gas meter reading company.

I got a card through the door today about a "missed reading", and I submitted it at
    http://www.myreading.net

Nothing to worry about, just making sure you pay the right amount on your 'leccy bill!

I get that they obviously are a real company, but what I don't understand is that, I'm with Utility Warehouse and submit my meter readings monthly, so why do they need an additional 6 monthly reading?

The telephone reception was poor and I could not hear exactly who was calling but I did catch the word electric.  I have no means of knowing whether it is genuine or a scam as this telephone number does not appear on the printed literature.

Was called on my mobile, asking to speak to me. I asked what it was about, they said the needed to 'update their records'. I told them I submit my readings to my utility company direct at the end of every month (the last time only 8 days ago). The caller again said it was to 'update their records'. I refused as I was at work, and he rang off.

For a start, you don't just ring someone out of the blue on their mobile and ask for information without identifying yourself and your reason for calling. 'Updating our records' is not a good enough reason. I told the caller I submit my reading to my utility company at the end of every month, and didn't see a reason why I needed to provide that informations to anyone else.

I've actually just rung them back anonymously, claiming to not know who the call was from, and they identified themselves as Lowri Beck and that they were a 'meter reading company'. When I said that I send my readings in monthly anyway, like clockwork, the girl apologised and said I must have been called in error. As I didn't identify myself and called from a different phone from the one they originally rang me on, they'll probably ring again later. I'll tie them up for longer next time and try to get to the bottom of why they do what they do.

I too have had calls from this company, nine in total in the space of a week. The first call was a shock, they speak to you like you are muck!
We have given the meter reading to them twice, and received our updated reading in the post...and still they keep calling. They are arrogant, rude and very intrusive, to the point where you end up stammering. I now have a recording of one person on my answer phone she phoned 5 times on one evening.  I have now taken Independent advice on how I can deal with the situation. The numbers they call from are:-

I've had 4 missed calls from this number today. They have been calling my work mobile and I'm not sure I ever gave that to nPower. If they call and I am in a position to answer it, I will. But having read the posts on here I'm ready to give them a proper earful!

This isn't the first time I've been grateful for findin this site.

Whilst I accept some comments which say this is not a scam, I would prefer that my energy provider advised me of who these people are before I start receiving calls out of the blue.  My number is ex-directory so how they got hold of it I don't know (even my energy provider does not have it).

My suspicions were raised because I had alredy given my meter readings to my energy provider only last week so to get a call out of the blue from a company I've never heard of asking for info I've already provided starts alarm bells ringing.

Until I hear otherwise from my energy provider I'm not giving out my details to someone I've never heard of.

Its you and your company and the companies you work for that are the ignorant morons, they should at least inform you that they are farming out their meter readings to some sort of debt collecting agency type of company rather than terrifying people sending strangers to peoples houses from companies that nobody has ever heard of, there is too much of this sort of behavior going on now and the big companies should be regulated in this sort of activity.

Lowri Beck may be a legit company acting on behalf of npower in my case but it is the way they operate that is wrong. Their latest voicemail message is a lot clearer, disclosing who they are, but on both occasions my meter readings were up to date. So they seem to operate independently regardless of how up to date your meter readings with the actual supplier are. They're a pest.

They left a card through my door 2 weeks ago asking for electric and gas readings, the electric had been read the week before and the gas was not due till this week, he called today.
Seems like some sort of scam to me otherwise what is the purpose of it if I am already getting my meters read. There is no need for them to have my readings, everything works fine as it is.

i work for Lowri Beck and they are a meter utilities company who work for many large energy suppliers such as npower, utility warehouse and scottish and southern energy. we are subcontracted by the suppliers to take meter readings along with many other operations.

I got a call from this number this evening, to be frank the caller was more than polite and clearly explained why they were calling me and what they needed my meter reading for.  My gas and electricity meter is inside my property and as i work full time i am not always home when a meter reader calls and to be honest it makes no difference submitting my reading over the phone to a company who has taken time to employ a member of staff to contact me for this information.  If the meter reader has been and not left a card, really what difference does it make, it is at the end of the day in my best interests to submit an accurate meter reading for the electricity and gas that I use to ensure that my bills and information are accurate and up to date.

What do you all think a company can do with your meter reading??, it does not relate to your bank details, personal information and anything at all to do with this type of information.  I believe that Lowri Beck are a genuine meter reading company as if you look on their website it does give you full information about who they are, what they do and how long etc etc they have been operating as a company which if you take the time to read you may have a better understanding of what you are all moaning about!!!!!!

Under the Gas Act (1986) your gas supplier has an obligation in law to have your gas meter inspected by a trained meter reader at least once every 2 years. Suppliers generally attempt to satisfy this obligation at least once a year. This is why suppliers use companies such as Lowri Beck and Accuread to visit people's properties to take meter readings. The fact that you may be supplying meter readings to your supplier on a regular basis makes absolutely no difference to this process as the meter has to be physically inspected by a representative of your supplier. If your supplier doesn't manage to inspect your meter within two years then another company called Xoserve (formerly known as Transco) will send a meter reader, probably from Lowri Beck or Accuread, to try and inspect your meter. Xoserve represents the gas transporters who own the pipe networks so if access is persistently refused Xoserve have the right under the Gas Act to obtain a warrant to enter your property by force in order to carry out an inspection. It doesn't always happen but they do have this right, so it's in your interests to let the meter reader in now and again. Saves everyone a lot of hassle.

I've had numerous calls from this company recently. I'm with NPower and I gave them a reading 3 weeks ago. I spoke to NPower and they say they don't currently require any readings from me as I've just had a new bill with my previous reading on it.

I know they are a legitimate company who do work on behalf of suppliers but they have to get their act together. Communicate with the suppliers and only apply for readings from customers who are overdue them. It the supplier is giving them out of date information it's their job to see that it's accurate and up todate.

Also, in the 17 years I've been living at our house we've never had a problem with anyone ready our outside meter. I suspect they either don't have enough staff or they're trying to save money by phoning instead. Either way I find it very unprofessional and think the suppliers should use another company to do their readings. A point I made to NPower when I phoned them.

    THE FACTS

We got a call from this number at 7.30pm - seemed a bit odd. We have been called by them before on another number.

    We called NPower (our supplier)

NPOWER HAVE CONFIRMED - THEY HAVE ***NO ASSOCIATION*** WITH LOWRI BECK FOR METER-READING PURPOSES

We did some research and asked some questions.

Lowri Beck IS a legitimate company. HOWEVER, they work in marketing and use your meter readings to sell on to other companies (they also try to sell you new meters and equipment). So they have no association whatsoever with electricity companies other than for marketing purposes (i.e. trying to get you to switch, selling your usage details for research purposes). So you are under no obligation to give them ANY information.
