Just had a call from this number, actually asked if I was playimg them when I asked the reason for their call then they hung up, carnt wait for them to call again.... They said they were the "British Verification Company" and wanted to know of our Gas supplier..... DONT BE FOOLED.....

My husband & I are receiving a call everyday from these plonkers at the moment.  An Indian sounding man called Nelson keeps ringing, saying his records show that we are very good British Gas customers & pay by direct debit - WRONG!  

He told me he worked for UK Major Brands yesterday &, after I'd told him I wanted him to remove our telephone number from his calling list, he said, "Madam, why do you not just co-operate?"  "Because I don't want to!" I replied.  "But all you have to do is answer Yes or No, madam."  "I don't HAVE to do anything!" was my reply.  I again repeated my request to be removed from their calling list & he eventually hung up.  I tried 1471 but they'd blocked it.

My husband gave him a much rougher ride this afternoon & taught him some new swear words.  Today, 1471 was successful.

Ah seems I'm not alone in getting calls from Nelson then !!

He isn't happy when you go against his script is he (well he should be used to it by now by the sounds of it !!)

I had a call today from this number (091148) @ 8.30pm sat night. as i have booked marked these pages , i entered the numba and bingo my suspicions were confirmed Glad i didnt answer it. Iam ex directory too :-(

20:45 Saturday night, sitting down at the end of long day, enjoying a berr and this number rings!   Indian accent claimimg to be "British Verification Company" and " is it correct you are British Gas customer?"  Reply "Yes" (with a doubt in my mind"  "Do you pay be Direct Debit or by cheque?"

That got a stiff reply.. "what do you think you are doing at 8:45 disturbing my evening?"   line went dead.

Recieved a call today from a company called UK Major Brand the bloke I spoke to called Peter Brown said he was from a verification company and wanted to confirm that our gas supplier was British Gas and that we paid by direct debit. I told him that his information was wrong and then he reeled off the other major gas suppliers in the uk and wanted me to confirm which one we used.

I told him that we were not interested and that I would not confirm any information over the phone and that if he had a telephone number that I could verify I would phone back. He told me that his company could not recieve incoming calls and that I should just confim what he had asked me and said it was not a sales call or to change our supplier and was just to verify our information. He started to get very aggressive and insistant so I told him that I was terminating the call and I hung up.

Guess what . . . no sooner had I replaced the reciever he phoned back. Again told me he was Peter Brown from UK Major Brand. At this point I told him that I was not about to enter into a conversation with him and hung up the phone again. A few weeks ago we recieved a similar call to say that our telephone number had been recieved at RANDOM???? and that we had won £10,000 told the woman we were not interested and hung up.

Peter Brown who I spoke to was extreemly persistant, aggressive and would advise anyone not to confirm ANYTHING over the phone

just took a call from 091148, indian lady said she was from big prize draw and i'd won £5000.00, she asked if I was home owner, age bracket, income no more than £20,000.00 and favourite hol destination. I just agreed with everything she said, then she said a rep will call me soon. when i call this number back it just says not recognised

we have received about 5 calls today from this 091148 number. i looked on here and i have called vonage who were really apologetic and said they will remove my number within 30 days.

yeah right but we'll see

Rings twice a day every day, from India asking me to confirm that I am with British Gas - and I pay by ddm both of which are wrong.  They now have my name they get abusive down the phone as I will not give any information to them.

Been called for last 7 months every day from the various numbers, being on the TPS means nothing as they are ringing from India so even if reported can not do a thing.  Have even been told to [***] off by them?!?!  why ring then you idiots

caller says he is from energy saver claiming he can save me £400 on my gas n electric, I have had this call 6 times in the last week and it is getting annoying coz they even ring on sundays and night time, i just argued with him saying i don't pay for gas and electric and he lost his temper saying he would not ring again as i didnt want to save £400 on my energy suppliers and also called me a lier so i just carmly told him i was not lying and then he hung up saying he would not ring again :-) I can only hope so, best way to deal with thses sort of calls is just wind them up giving names and address like micky mouse, disney land or just random stuff they get relly annoyed and hang up and seem never to ring again lol

Just had one of these calls fro 091148. Had a few similar ones from "International" numbers over the past week all asking who my gas supplier is.

As I was not busy at that particular moment I managed to waste about 10 minutes of his time.

He did not seem to grasp that it was non of his business who I get my gas, or anything else, from.

His, apparent, reason for asking was to "find out who the best supplier is". I tried to point out that just because a majority of people use supplier X does not mean anything - yes they may be the best supplier but it may also mean that the customers have not bothered to change to a better/cheaper supplier. What he could not (would not?) tell is what they will do with this information when they have it - seems a pointless exercise to me.

Anyway he ended up saying that "you don't care about anything" - not sure how he knows that. He cares a lot, apparantly, which is why he was working on a Sunday - altogether now aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh poor man!!!!!

Just missed the call but 1471 said it was them. Wish I had got to the phone as I would just give them crap back and tell them they have won a holiday and give them the same stuff back.

The caller hung up as I answered.

Had three telephone calls tonight alone.  First two times my partner answered.  Had the silent start, Indian male then mentioned something about Energy saving and he hung up.  Third time I answered, silent start again and then this time an Indian Lady.  I tried explaining that this was our third call, but she kept talking over me about Energy Saving.  I said again that this was our third call (a little louder) and she just hung up on me.  Very rude and intrusive.  Dialed 1471 and 091148 quoted.

Just won a holiday have to pay £99 for admin charges, told them to get lost, where do they get e directory numbers from, hvaing paid Telewest to stop theses calls coming thro, a little peeved off.

In the last week I have received three calls from this number requesting info' on my service providers, each time I have challenged them and although I was very polite the last caller became extremely abusive and swore at me before finally slamming the phone down on me.  I resent these intrusions into my life and refuse to give them any details which could be used to access other areas of my personal life e.g. bank accounts.  It is very important that you do not give out any info', it will only make things easier for them.
A few suggestions as to how best to deal with these people are:
Ask them to hold on and just leave them there until they get bored and hang up.
Buy a whistle, speak very quietly and when you're sure they are listening intently blow the whistle as loud as possible (a compressed air powered horn such as a klaxon works even better).
Email Gordon Brown, David Cameron, your local M.P. etc... to clog up their systems, after all it was the government that privatised the telephone system and we never had this kind fiasco when the telephone system was a national concern.

I had the same call earlier and missed it, checked here for the number. I had the same call again not 5minutes ago, so decided to mess about with them. We should make a game of it!

He wanted me to confirm my email address, my response "Go_f***_Yourself@moron.com"

He seemed kinda gullable, took that as my proper email address. Started giving him a fake name and address. I went for Darth Vader. Dome 1, Death Star...

He hung up just when I was startin to enjoy it :(

I have just moved to my new flat and rang B.T to put my line on and they also gave me broadband,then B.T gave me a email address.

As you know all technical support is from india,all B.T give your info to them as soon as you get broadband or a landline for technical.I believe our info then gets sold to a indian sales company scam.
