It is a scam! do not fall for this crap. The government does not give away money at random! They have called me from three of the numbers posted by other victims.

I just received this same call and told them I wanted it sent to a Western Union. The manager is now using the name John Cooper. And they asked me for a $280.00 security deposit and said I will receive $7280.00. He said I have call him when I get to the Western Union store and he will give the directions again on how to access my money. The numbers used this time were 202-621-0739 out of DC and 270-657-8766 out of KY.

There are lots of people you can report it to.  The trouble is the calls, even the ones that look like domestic numbers, actually originate outside the U.S.  They use Internet technology to mask the real origination of the call.

If they tell you they are something that resembles a real Federal agency, call that agency.  For example, with Dept. of Treasury you want the Public Information Department in D.C.

FTC has an online reporting site for this, also.

Someone here mentioned the Federal Reserve bank.  Likely the Federal Attorney General's office wants to know.

The problem is, these people aren't in the United States, so there is no way to enforce U.S. laws.

I haven't checked, but since it's international crime, Interpol may also have a task unit on this.

    Oh, forgot.

Someone on another site similar to this one had a list of probably at least three dozen different phone numbers the scammers are using.

Fraud call, claiming to be from US government, awarding me with a GRANT, for heaven's sake, for paying my taxes on time, etc. NOT! As a former US government employee, I identified myself as such and asked the individual --Robert -- East Indian accent -- for the name of the agency he represented. He declined to answer. I indicated that I was not interested, and he persisted, became hostile at the suggestion of a fraud or scam. I requested to never be called again.

Within minutes, he called back and asked WHY, WHY WHY couldn't he call this number again, WHY did I think it was a fraud. When I indicated that I had already tried to call the number back and it would take no incoming calls, he hung up. In 10 minutes, he called AGAIN.

I told him I would report the activity to the FCC and the Department of Justice, and I surely will. Very defiantly, he exclaimed, "Report. Go ahead." THIS IS a scam. PLEASE report yours as well, and put these scamsters out of business before they defraud someone of their identity.  Obviously PHISHING for financial information and defrauding folks.  And OBVIOUSLY believes he is impervious to the law, to boot!

I received a call from a telemarketer with the number 202-405-5677. The marketer had an Indian accent and the background noise sounded like a call center. He told me I had won a $7000 grant from the govt. and I should call 202-559-7648 and speak to Sam Dawson. Sam was a no nonsense man that said he didn't want me to waste his time but this was legitimate and he said it would cost me $300 to have the money wired to me immediately with him on the phone. I do not know who he is or what agency he is with? The first person that called me  gave me the web address of www.usgovernmentgrant.org - it appears to be a scam.
