I just received the exact same phone call except this one claimed from Beijing police department. I was worry and scared that my ID was stolen. They have gone through all the same old story as Pat described. I asked them how would I know if they were not scam? They told me that I could check on the TEL # that they called, It made that even more believable. So when the Chinese consulate connected me to the Beijing police department they asked me to write the police report, since the distant is far from NYC to Beijing they agree to record my info. That was the time I started to realized I can't give up my personal info through the phone so I Google the TEL# on line while I was on the phone with them. The ''officer" told me please don't check on the number..... I saw a big word ''SCAM"  then I hung up the phone. I called my Chinese friend about this. I told her that I am worry about i might gave some of my personal info through the phone that I did not even realized. She told me "don't worry , it is a scam, I have  received these phone call for 7-8 times, same as my husband and my kid. All they want is for you to send them money."  Everyone please be careful block this TEL #.

Called at 8:46 AM, but I didn't answer. I searched the number and it appears to be the Chinese Consulate in New York. I'm from Massachusetts and I'm not Chinese. After reading these posts, I'm assuming it's just a typical fraud case.

You gave these crooks your name and birthdate 2 weeks ago? Your are going to be a victim of identity theft. You need to take preventative action immediately if you have not done so. Freeze all your credit reports and get new credit card numbers for all your accounts. Notify all your financial institutions. And more.

I am also in Massachusetts and got a call from this number. Didn't leave a message. It's most likely a scam call

Just got this call.  I have a Massachusetts phone number, though I'm physically in New Mexico (Just don't want to let go of my 617 area code!)  no message left, just one more number added to my vast block list.

The women (machine voice) claimed to be the Chinese Consulate in New York and there is an important message regarding my visa and if I do not resolve the issue immediately, I will not be allowed to enter/leave (I don't remember which one it is) the country (didn't mention which country). This does not sound legit.

Called my mobile phone, I didn't answer, no message.

Chinese lady spoke mandarin from New York. I have no idea what she said .but I believe was a spoofs and scam.

Same, got a call from them for no reason, didn't pick up, didn't leave VM, will block number, thank you to the community !

I got calls from this number, THREE times to be exact.  The first two times, i didn't pick up, no messages left.  The third call came today (2 days apart) and this time i answered.  It was a recording in Chinese.  I had no idea what she was saying, so i let her finish and the call ended.

This is absolutely a scam, I would not go to the appointment if I were you.

Our office phone has been getting this recorded call on every line for weeks, it's not a legitimate call.

Got the phone call and it doesn't make any sense. I am not a Chinese citizen and have never been to China. Sounds very fishy.

Just got a call from this number on my cell. I did not answer as I do not answer calls from unrecognized numbers. The only Identification was NYC, NY, and did not leave a message. I look up the number and it says it belongs to the Chinese Consulate. I immediately know it is a scam as I have never been to China.

I just received a call from the same number and a female recording "This is the Chinese consulate in New York", then I hung up the phone. I think this is a spam call and no reason for me to get a phone call from the Chinese Consulate.

Also received a call from this number and nothing showed up on caller ID for it.

Just got this.  A recorded message in a woman's voice sa ying the call is from the Chinese consulate and telling me I have an important message and I should press 1 to retrieve it.
I follow Hong Kong news very closely, and it's been reported many times such scamming phone calls are very common in Asia.  Most goes like this:  caller, usually speaks in Mandarin, would tell the person who answer that he/she had some violation with the Chinese law.  Of course the answerer had no idea about it.  Caller then suggest someone might have stolen your identity and in order to fix it, provide this and that information.  This is when they steal your ID or credit card numbers.

PURE SMART SCAM because they are using real telephone number of China’s Consulate in NYC to show up on caller ID..they can only get you when you press and # when you receive call and then call is answered in boiler room Fijan co-callers.  If you actually call the number you will get the consulates office.   NYC CONSULATE is like DMV   - you go to take care of obtaining visa-passport, pick a number ticket and get call to a glass window ans submit ur doc..if you r good, u return to pick up visa; also different locations for different matters  this is for visa/passport.. if u need info on education for example different phone number and location..their main goal target are non english speaking chinese people to scam:  also you must know how to speak english working at consulate office,,this ia why they hang up immeditely when u soeak english
Either pat is part of scam or she just got scammed  its horrible in nyc  they have been targeting old

chinese american born  it is the FIJAN   — they are the worse..and the women r worse than males (also same group of peep that mess d up the buses for unsafety (family member in NYPD unit special tasks force) but i guess Trump will not stop their immigration bc of his personal business affairs with China..but kick out a hard working hispanic man in america for 39 years and children born here,,,
