Mine came from 212.244.1162, but it is this same scam - seems they are varying the last 4 numbers. I looked it up and this is a private person’s actual number, but clearly it is not that person who is making the call pretending to be the Chinese consulate.

2122449392 keeps calling my work phone number.  The caller is a recorded message in Chinese language.  I have blocked this caller several times, but keep calling with a different last 4 digits.  How can I block all calls?

FYI - if you go to the Chinese Consulate's website (I went to the NYC site as that was the number that called me), at the top of the page they have a prominent link called "Phone Scam Alert" and if you click on it, it states what many have already said here - it's a scam that is in no way associated with the Consulate/Chinese government. They have a listing of all the law enforcement you can report the scam to, and they have a link so you can email the article to your friends/family.

I'm in Philadelphia, and this morning 5.14.18, I received a call ID'd as CONSULATE GENERAL from this number, which I did not pick up, as I would have no reason to be receiving a call from that entity.  I Googled the number to find this list of similar reports.  A non English, (Asian language),  message was left.

I got a call from this number on my cell phone this morning. NOROBO had flagged it as a robot call, so I didn't answer and the caller didn't leave a voice message. A Google search indicates this number is associated with a scam targeting Chinese speakers.

Just got a phone call on my cell phone from (212)   244-9392 I did not answer since I do not know anyone  in New York City or for that matter the State.  A voice mail was lèft, of which the message was at the end of recorded statement .  What was heard was about 5 seconds asian sounding with asian background music.

Yes. The whole process is similar to what Pat (12 Jan 2018 posting) has detailed.
They will provide information such as a formal government document which described that  you have some sort of legal trouble because your personal identity info has been stolen.  The story line is similar to what Pat has shared, except this time is about a fake passport which cause you legal trouble with Migration & Immigration Service at the Beijing Airport.  The  alleged person who fabricated 5 fake passports with other's identity info was a Chinese American, Ms. Wenli Deng.  They also want to be helpful to connect you to the Chinese police department so as to provide you further assistance.  Upon further inquiries of their identity and work-related info, the person over the phone even gave you a fake name and work id #, in the pursuit of being more convincing.  When discuss you need their formal job title in English (for reporting to local police department and FBI), they hung up the phone.  Apparently, the scam is trying to make people nervous and "share" information with their "police" whom they wanted to connect you to.   I've received this scam info on July 1, 2018.  Apparently, this scam has been going on and will continue.

How did the appointment come out?

I am feeling stupid because I got so scared when they told me my identity was used for some financial fraud in China and I have become one of the suspect. I actually went through the whole thing about talking to the police locate in Beijing etc. And gave my passport information (name, DOB, and passport number) as part of the filing process. Now I am really worry about my identity being used without my authorization.

I got a call from my cell this morning and left the recorded message. I called back and heard a Chinese woman who mentioned another NYC phone number as 212-868-2078. I called this new number and heard another recorded message and mentioned the address of Chinese General Consulate in NYC as so and so number on 12th Ave and 13th Street if I remember right. Surely this is a made up address since i know CGC is located on 42th Street as every knows. It is a phone scam for sure. But how could whoever makes such scam left the recording and our government does not do anything yet since January this year!
