- Meow Meow| 5 repliesI got a call from this # this afternoon saying that I'm in for the 2nd draw for a Benz in March. I sorta remember filling out something similar but can't be sure. She knows my name & address as well as my phone # obviously, but she got my age wrong (which seems a bit fishy to me) ... Also, she even asked me the age of my partner and if I'm renting or owning a house, which don't seem to be relevant to me. Well, she didn't ask me for anyother personal info so I'm not quite sure if this is a scam or not.
- Vancouver BCGot a call from this number in April 2008. Said that I had entered a draw for a vehicle and they wanted to try and get me in on the early draw. They left a voice mail and keep calling back. I haven't entered anything resembling this type of draw so I know it is not legitimate.
Lately they have tried to claim that my spouse already agreed to pick up some sort of prize in Burnaby BC and I should book an appointment.- Caller: AVO West in Nanaimo
- Free UserI just received a call from this number, too! It also said that I'm in the final draw for a Mercedes Benz. But I don't remember that I entered something like that in the past. The person claimed that he's from Aviawest Resorts in Nanaimo, BC. He even knows my full name and address, but I didn't let him confirm. I told him that my phone is running out of battery and is there any number I can call him back. He gave me 1-800-728-1695 plus the extension 1695. This number seems to be valid as it does say Aviawest and it asks for the extension you want to dial.

Can you say... SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!- Caller: Nanaimo, BC
- anonIf you fill out contest forms when you are in a gas station or cafe, they give your info to these sweepstakes telemarketers. I believe they want to sit you down to sell a timeshare or something.

- SteveI'm in Victoria, BC, and just got the same kind of call (about 8 p.m. June 23). The woman claimed I'd entered a contest and could win a Lexus, but there was some "confusion" about the names on the form. I thought it might be true, but it seemed weird because I'm pretty sure the only times I entered such contests were at a mall over 2 years ago and a sports event last summer. Still, since she already knew the last names of my wife and I, I confirmed what she knew and also gave her our address (foolishly). Right afterwards she checked our postal code, which she already knew. The phone directory only lists my last name and initial, so it's a mystery how she knew my wife's name. Another suspicious thing is the information on websites I found. The first search regarding a Lexus contest led to two sites: one has rules only, but it states the contest ended in March 2008. The other congratulates the 2007 winners, explains some prizes, and has a button for entering the contest (strange if it ended 2 months ago). There are also webpages with rules and info on a 2006-7 contest for a Smart Car. One of these has a link to the site about the new contest for a Lexus, etc. I also wonder why it's necessary for them to call so many people to "check" their names and addresses. It's hard to believe that the writing on so many entry forms was unclear. Or are they checking info from an illegitimate source to make sure it's still current? It's also easy to imagine unethical reasons for checking if someone's family income is over 50K. Yes, it's very disturbing. I think the best rule of thumb is to give no information over the phone and tell ALL unknown callers that one is NOT INTERESTED, no matter what they're offering. Or just HANG UP immediately. Good luck everyone.
- poohbear1320| 6 repliesi think you will find kim works for them since she also made a similar claim on another board about this phone number and supposive prize you won for some unknown contest you entered. i have got these calls over and over again lately i don't answer, call display rocks, but they just keep on calling back. by the way the name i get on my caller display is just 'nanamio bc' it wasn't until i looked it up using google i got the name 'aviawest'

- cam| 1 replyThis is a scam - to get you to show up at the location, have you got outstanding tickets, charges pending against you? this is how they did it last year (documented on tv), at a different location.
- bassYeah you'll find out that kim prob. does work for them -and the previous post sounds about right. have you had collectors calling you b4 hand? I know i didnt enter a contest. but i know "wiggens adjustment" has been calling (re- an unpaid ticket in US).and i did see the "sting "operation they put on t.v. was actually kind of funny...ppl showing up to get a prize ,big smiles and then cuffs:( and they had to appear in court. their spouse was left to drive home, without a prize .....
- SK8I got the call, played telephone tag- they will not answer call, they make you leave number each time and when you'll be available for her to call. When she did call i said her wrong info was correct (address, full names etc...)said she was sending a key for me to use at the burnaby location....what? no show room?...resorts always have the showrooms for you etc...i too know i didn't enter to win a lexus (or benz for that matter)...and didn't really care about the guaranteed 2 of the 6 prizes they offered just for appearing...oh yeah...almost forgot, you can also choose your date/time to show up....sounds fishy to me -----IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.....
Keep us posted to those of you who do go,i'll leave my prize for you:) let me know what you actually "win" tnx, - camAVAIWEST IS A NOT A SCAM you can look up thier number they are on estavan rd in nanaimo be and its the real deal man , maybe someone filled out the ballot for you if they did good for you , you always get a prize of considerable value just going for a 90 info session.. wow wish i could have a chance at all those prizes the lesser ones just for attending are over 100$
MMMMM... I thought they only called those who entered and were finalists. I thought you recived a gift just for showing up...this does not sound like it was posted by someone not affiliated.... - LaurieHi. I can honestly say I am usually skeptical of these sort of things too. But in my case I can say the calls from aviawest are legit because I am the most recent winner of a 2 year lease and I took the cash option, which I have in my possession already. I got a call in March because the contest ended back then and they have different rounds of draws to pick the winner. Same as everyone else they already had my info and were just confirming it and checking that I was over 19, which I can understand because kids fill those forms out all the time. I think they do time shares to and do offer people the weekends away to sit and listen to a seminar, but they aren't hiding that fact if you read the web page and that doesn't make it a scam. Anyway that's not the same as the draw I entered. Yesterday I got my picture taken and received my cheques and I didn't have to sign up for any sales seminars or buy anything. I think it's good to be careful but people do win these things and this company from my experience it legit. It's still hard for me to believe but it's true!

- SherylI worked at aviawest and Kim is the head boss there its not a scam but there do try to sell you a timeshare and they will call you every single year until you change your phone number or die. Even after your dead they will harass your spouse . Its horrible , indeed you do get the prizes off a scratch card you are gaurunteed four of six i believe it was I did see lots of people get the free nights and lots of people got the 2 for 1 cruise and stuff so you do get gifts but the 90 minutes is never that short but hey you can go get the prizes and then after the 90 minutes say [***] off and just take the stuff and run lol . There not a scam just annoying and harrassing.

- davidSounds like sheryl is a disgrunteld employee. my girlfriend entered the draw for the lexus at a laudry matt in victoria , recieved a phone call-not saying that i won- but that some of my info needed to be verified. Everything that she had entered onto the ballet was true and therefor easily varified. Also she said the ballat clearly stated that she was giving consent the be contacted for speacial promotional offers.so we agreed to attend the 90 min presentation to try our key and recieve our gifts- had to reschedule the original oppointment- but the lady was nice enough to call back and set a better date. they did (at the presentation) talk to us about diffrent timeshare and vacation stuff- but it wasnt something i wanted to spend money on.anyways, the key didnt open the lexus lock box- but we did win $100 aviawest money that i used towards golfing- and we won a trip for two to vegas. we just booked threw the travel agent, were leaving for the august long weekend and staying at treasure island. i will repost in a few weeks and let everyone know how it goes. seems like most peope posting on here dont get how lucky they are theyve been choosen to recieve a free sample of a vacationing product-just for filling out a free legit draw. And to the person who gave the wrong address for the key... what if that one was the winner, i guess ur just too good for a free lexus and all the gifts, or are u a jerk who lied about being old enough to attend the presentation and just out to ruin it for the rest of us.

- Skye| 2 repliesI never entered into any draw and apparently I still "won" a Lexus. Total scam use your head don't ever give personal information out over the phone, next time they call simply tell them to remove your number from there list and legally they have to. If they don't you can report them! Don't be naive nothing in this world is ever free, if it is there are always strings attached!
- BrendaThey're using a dated phone book as they asked for me or my ex-husband of 7 years!
- cd64@hotmail.comis there a way of scrathing for the tv prize? thats all i want!
- josh| 1 replyWe entered a draw in a mall and were called by someone who said we won 2 prizes and a key to see if we could win a Lexus. We knew we had to come and listen to a presentation, but didn't have a problem doing so as it was only 90 min. When we got there and got half way into the presentation, they informed us that they couldn't give us our two scratch prizes and our key because we wern't 28 years old!! So bizarre. Why 28? They said it had something to do with the real estate act? And making sure people can afford things? Anyway I found out later that my mom was promised gifts from them and was actually going to sign up for their time share, but didn't because they kept trying to make up reasons why she couldn't have the gifts. First they said they were out of stock, then they said they'd mail them to her but nothing since. Seems odd to me. It also seems odd that they wouldn't have asked us on the phone about our age? And as well, we put our ages on the entry forms in the mall so they knew already.
