It is a legit phone call from Scotia Bank. I just got the call and then phoned my branch in Winnipeg to verify. Yes, my credit card had been compromised. Somehow someone put a big charge on it while I had it in my purse with me at work.  Must have been compromised in the credit card transaction online from 4 weeks ago!

    Seems to be legit.

I was on Scotia's online banking site and sent a cash e-transfer to my brother.  About 5 minutes later I got a call from this number.  They asked for me by name, and wanted to confirm that it was in fact me that had sent the e-transfer and not someone hacking my account.

it is scotia bank........funny, it's not suspicious activity when you make a deposit, just when you make a withdrawl. All for your safety of course.

I got the message from 416-750-6018. I was asked to call back to Scotia Bank at 1-800-234-0257 ASAP regarding a compromised credit card. I checked the number and it is NOT the one of the numbers listed on the Scotia Bank web site!

This number is legit.  I got the same message as Tony did and my card was indeed compromised.  However, for the sake of safety, call the number on the back of your card instead of the supplied number in the message.

Its legit number- its the fraud department calling about weird activity on your account...thank god they did mine was compromised.  I called the number back and its a recording but if you call 1-800-813-6602 you can ask and that is their head office direct line.

This number called me. It was not a scam. It called to inform me that bank cards are being blocked and that I'd have to get my card replaced. I was already aware of this after not being able to pay with debt and had already been to the branch to replace the card.

Your call is typical of a "fraud dept" call- the calls are time sensitive.

This is a generic telephone number of Scotiabank to intimate Scotiabank credit card holders about potential fraudulent activity in their credit Cards.  But i would strongly suggest calling them on their Toll free number and not on the 416 number or any 1800 number they leave.  I got a call from this number 10 minutes back and i contacted their customer service, they were weary about a transaction i did on my credit card about 12 hours back (vendor is in Montreal), asked me if i authorized it and i said yes and its all good

Legit call. Scotiabank calling to verify transaction on my visa debit was me doing it about 5 minutes after putting it though. Security seems to be on the ball.

You don't sound too smart. This is a Phishing Expedition. Just because you called the number back and the recording says that it is Scotabank doesn't mean that it is. I spoke directly to Scotiabank head office and they told me that this phone number DOES NOT BELONG TO THEM SO BE CAREFUL OF SHARING ANY INFORMATION AT ALL WITH ANYONE CALLING FROM THIS NUMBER. They told me that Scotabank does not do business in this manner. If they find that there is any issue at all with your personal account, business account, credit card or debit card then they ask you to go into your branch to resolve the issue. They never ask for personal and confidential information over the phone.

The person perpetrating this fraud called herself Anita and all the information she threw at me was completely incorrect. I would not give her anything at all and then called Scotiabank directly to see if this is some kind of fraud. they are now having the Securities Commission investigate this.

Called and left an automated voicemail indicating that my Visa had been compromised. They left a 1-800 number to call.

I was suspicious, so I called the 1-800 listed on my Visa (which did not match the number given in the voicemail). The rep said that the call was legitimate and came from the security department.

Received a call this morning at 4:05 AM. Just heard a 'beep' and then the other party hung up. Very strange.

The number is fine. I received a call from it and heard a recorded message and got suspicious so I hung up before the entire pre-recorded message was done. Same day I go to withdraw money from a branch and they say there is a hold on my card due to suspicion about my card.

I called Scotia customer service and fixed the issue with my card, then told them about the number. They said they would check and the same customer service woman later called me back from that very number to say it was fine. Seems weird and really really sketchy but there's also this - https://twitter.com/ScotiabankHelps/status/453953586939330560
