Got this e-mail today based on a craiglist ad for my home in Austin:

instruct him to send you the check for this as soon as you give us the
go ahead to make payment to you providing you information.

.Due to the limited time that we have before our arrival,we are
making arrangements with a furniture company to supply the home with
furniture,so we will need you to provide us with the measurements
often living room and bedroom so that we can send it to the furniture
company so that they can supply the unit with furniture that will fit
in well. I will like to tell you that i am indeed serious about
renting this unit and will be willing to offer you 1 month rent plus
the security deposit in order to secure this unit prior to our
arrival.Please , send me a picture view of the living room and
bedrooms too.

As regards the lease agreement,i want you to send it to me for my
preview,i will eventually have it filled and signed on my arrival in
your place as i am of the opinion that such documents are best filled
and signed physically. And again am a good Christian man and i don't
like people playing games with me so if you really want me to rent
this apartment you need to wait for me till i come there and i will
have the lease agreement filled and signed on my arrival in your place
in person. Also We can start the lease by JAN and we will be doing a
2years lease although we will not be arriving until the end of the
Month.You can prepare the lease in my name Dr. David White and my
wife's name Mrs.Natalia White .Let us know how to move ahead as we
intend to complete this deal before we move in by the end of the
month,we will let you know the exact date as soon as we get a booking
on a flight to the states.

Thanks for the previous posts- it helped us id this as a scam.  Any idea what they're after?

I get scams like these on Craigslist ALL the time. One I kind of led on for a while hoping to get more info but even after I reported them to some online fraud agency I never heard back.  :(

In any that I have had, they send a check for too much money and they want you to send them back the difference, but of course their original check would be bogus if I were to cash it.  Always a third party involved.

most recently I received one from "Homar Hz" at homar200@live.com.  Just want to put that out there in case anyone else googles it.

This guy contacted me through craigs list regarding a property our company had for rent.  He was going by the name Dr. Liu Matt and his wife's name is Kate.  He sent the "missionary" letter to me and asked me to call this number.  44702 406 3695   He is also going by the
e-mail name Tim.Hall6000@gmail who pretends to be a government worker and will be doing work for STATE.

This scam is still going on, it is now April 9, 2010. Same story just a different name.He is now Dr. Robert Daves. I wrote him back and said that I would only accept CASH!! I also siad that if he is one of the scam artists, not to bother answering this email. Now after looking into this further, I see that it is a scam. My girlfriend nearly got scammed 4 years ago froma Nigerian one, but decided to callthe bank in Texas, which did not exsist. They even called her at 3 am California time and asked if she had sent the check.

Just got the same exact message on our condo in Silverthorn.   So glad I checked!

we've been emailing and talking on the phone since to make everything clear... he said he would send me a check (400€) and shortly after wrote me another mail saying that by mistake his financier issued the check for 2400€ money and i should send the money back when the check would arrive.
NOTHING has arrived so far.
he's supposed to land in berlin today (9:30pm) and come to my house. but i am sure now that this all is a big scam.

anyhow... i hope this isn't going to affect me after all, cause me, trusting as i am, i sent him the adress, phone number of myself and flatmate and even pictures of the room to rent.

I am being a target of Mr. "Wayne Foster" too. But I think that in my case the joke is quite different. I'm searching an apartment in Paris and Mr "Foster" posted an offer in craiglist. I sent a e-mail to him and he returned the message asking my address, full name etc. I answer the message with this informations (actually, with an incomplete address). After, he asked me a copy of a document and I send to him a copy of one page of my passport (after all, what could be done with a digital copy of a passport???). So, I went visiting the apartment and, to my surprise, there was not apartment at all!
I return to home thinking: what kind of scam is that? What he gains with these kind of informations and a digital copy of one page of my passport???

The rent is also inclusive of all the utility bills and is payable from month to month.its available for short/long term rental. I am at present in the united kingdom that is why i want to rent the apartment after i renovated it.
