I advertised a room on GumTree. Got a text message from this number she wants to rent my room. The alarm went off when she constantly replied from a different email address and she was so after my PayPal. Also she attached a photo of a driving licence proofing she is who she says is. So all in all and Indian girl called Alpa Amit Patel working as a Coastguard Agent in Canada and was brought up on Australia. So how come you don't speak English properly?
I looked up whether they can get money from my account through PayPal. And well yes! They are able to chargeback or whatsoever. So that's why she was after my PayPal. After the first email she said she is having the room.... What? And every single email was like: please send me PayPal and I can pay ASAP.
Yeah yeah.... So NO. DO NOT TRUST.

The same story to me the only difference is she gets transferred by work "down here" and will study part-time. Oh, and the name was Alpa Patel, first e-mail was (in the text message): yamingua@gmail.com. the other emails that she used constantly was brdgtjef@gmail.com
and when I asked why she doestnt use the email she sent me earlier to message, she said she was not an expert of GUMTREE. mate i did not ask you about gumtree........ : :D

just got a text from a 'Richard Wright' from this number to email him regarding a final price on a bike for sale in Ireland!  he is using email address richard.wright813@yahoo.ie  thanks to everyone for useful posts here, will ignore him

received an email from juliehamex001@hotmail.com also when trying to sell a boat on gumtree.  it all seemed too good to be true so i googled the email address and found this thread.  Thanks guys for the heads up.  What a shame.

As regards the payment, I can pay you through direct bank deposit,using paypal instant bank wire transfer service, I will need your bank details.If you are not comfortable with that, you can set up a paypal account proper and I will make the payment through paypal, this way, all I will need is your paypal email address.

I was just about to pay when i had this problem with the pick up, my pick up agent says i will need to pay for the pick up before they can schedule a pick up time, they charged me $900 for pick up and delivery, and payments for pick up made through them is made to their corporate international headquarters which is in the China and the payments is made through western union money transfer, i will add the $900 to the money i will send through paypal as soon as i have made the payments, i will email you and let you know and please i will need you to help me send the money to my pick up agent Hq in the China through western union money transfer, this can be done from any post office ,there is always western union money transfer section in most post offices(you can do it online as well atwww.westernunion.com)..., i would have done it myself but we cant bring some of our personal effects along such as credit card, i am a little incapacitated.....I will appreciate your help here.

Also selling on Gumtree (mower). Received text at 5:00am from number +61428465117 and she(?) only wanted to communicate via email - Julie Hamex <juliehamex001@hotmail.com>. Email that I received when I still thought it was legit:

"I Agree with the price you willing to sell it , i will be happy to paying directly into your paypal account without any delay. I would have prefer to see or inspection it but am busy, i work long hours everyday,i have gone through your advertisement and i am satisfied with it.

As for the payment..i will be paying you with the fastest and secure way to pay online(PayPal).

I have a private courier agent that will come over for the pick up at your door after the payment have been made, .You can now send me your PayPal email so i can pay in right away and also include your address in your reply.If you don't have a paypal account, you can easily set up one...log on to www.paypal.com and sign up. its very easy.I await your reply asap."

I thought a bit strange that she(?) was happy to hand over a few thousand, sight unseen, so googled her name and found all of these different sites warning about it being a scam. As per everyone else, thanks for heads up. Seller Beware!!!!!

Got the exact same message from Frank regarding a trailer I have advertised on Gumtree.  Wanted me to use Paypal to accept payment, and then informed me that he had forwarded the purchase amount plus an additional $650, that he then wanted me to pay to his agent (in china of course)
Reported him to paypal.

I"ve had the same thing just happen. posted a listing last night for two sofas and received a text this morning. Googled straight away and surprise surprise its dodgy!

ive got the message  from this number asking for my digital camera. he asked me to write to doledota1982@outlook.com

Same scammer his sent me the 3 texts asking for firm price and condition of sale.  A different email address and name but same number for every text.
Beware  61428465117  If you try calling this number it is always switched off

Just had a text from Alpa, he or she wanted to rent a room from me. Same number, but wants all details to email address of yaminqua@gmail.com. Given that all the details were on the site looked at I smelt a rat. Probably a Chinese rat if they are from Beijing as mentioned on previous posts. Glad this site exists. Hope no one gets taken in by this individual.

I had the same thing. Some 'Julie' text me in regards to my ad on gumtree about my car. They then asked me to reply to juliehamex001@outlook.com and  spun me some story about how busy 'she' was and that she would have a private courier come pick it up once I gave her my address. That whole email screamed SCAM! That was two day ago and then this morning I got another text text from the same number asking about my car again. This time they wanted me to reply to rivardthompson@gmail.com. I just sent back 'nice try' and then filed a scam report online via the Australian government  website

Received message about my car for sale on Gumtree. Googled and found all this info. What a scam. Who is doing anything about this person? Seems to have been ongoing scammer. Needs to be stopped to protect innocent people!
