- Sarah replies to HM| 2 repliesJust had exactly the same email from 'Matt Taylor' re a car add I posted on Gumtree.
That courier is sure going to be busy getting all that gear to Darwin…..wish I knew a way to reverse scam! - Sarah replies to Sarah| 1 replyAnd now one from pitt.ben264@gamil.com……from the same number so of course it sits under the message above! Losers. Seriously, does anyone know how to scam a scammer? That could be fun. Anybody got any friends in Nigeria?
- websteg replies to SarahBeware anthonyabbott@hotmail.com.au and adamthomason@hotmail.com.au, in this case through bikeexchange.com.au - scammer.
- richard lewendonHad a text from this number regarding a car I am selling on ebay. My partner showed me the text I said don't bother replying it don't look like they are in this country, googled the number and found this website. He asked me to email him on richylew01@gmail.com

- JulieReceiving messages from Janet Maxwell on this number re car we have for sale. Scam
- Ydnewgerg| 1 replyThis person gets around, today their name is Andey and they want to buy our car which is listed on Gumtree, they will even pay us $300 to take the listing off straight away. They are a sailor at sea so therefore can't access their bank account but have already organised for a courier to pick the car up. Mmm, these people are so annoying. Is there not something that Gumtree can do? I know the best thing is to ignore them but seriously, how many people have actually paid into their account and lost money. Something needs to be done.

- Ron replies to YdnewgergHi, I have a campervan for sale on Gumtree and this morning I received a text from +61428465117 allegedly from Maria asking "is your van still available for sale? what is the lowest price of it. email me pls (Bertonscott02@gmail.com)
I was alerted by the +6 prefix which I didnt recognise and found this website as a result of googling the number. I was going to delete the text anyway but I'm very pleased there are sites like this.
I agree that Gumtree or Google should trace these people and take criminal action against them. - KevinSame thing - two messages from different people/email addresses from the same Australian number with reference to a gumtree sale.
Only want to pay via PayPal. Useless wastes of skin.- Caller: Scumbag City

- GusWhen I did a search on 9 Moil Crescent Moil NT 0810, Australia the link to this website came up.. Interesting..
BEWARE it could be the same person.
Received an email from Tana O. Wilson (tnassec278@live.com) of 9 Moil Crescent Moil NT 0810, Australia within minutes after we had our car for sale on gumtree."
after my first response i received this email from Tana:
"Hi mate, thanks for the reply.I am okay with the price.I have read the ad and it's okay by me.My work does not permit me to come for the inspection (very busy and currently out of town).Would have loved to call but our base right now is bad so we can get along via e-mail. I will be paying you through PayPal,please get back to me with your PayPal name and email so i can proceed with the payment immediately and if you don't have one it's very easy to set up visit (www.paypal.com.au).I will also like you to remove the Advert online and consider me as your favourite buyer.''
I have sent my paypal account then I received the following email from Tana:
''I was just about to make the payment when I encountered this problem. The pick up agent said I must pay for the freight fee before they can schedule a pick up time. I've been charged $950 for pick up and delivery. The payment must be sent to their Headquarters in China where they confirm all commission payments made from any part of the world and the only form of payment they accept is Western Union Money Transfer.I tried to pay online (www.westernunion.com) but it requires a credit card to make the transfer online which i don't have access to and there is no post office here on rig ,I will add the $950 to the money am sending to your Paypal account. Once am done making the full payment, kindly help me forward the freight fee to the agent's Headquarters in China through western union money transfer. I would have done it myself but I can't send money through that means due to my present location and there is no post office on sea.(western union section in most post offices)... I'm a little incapacitated but I'll appreciate your help here. I will proceed with the payment now and email you once am done''
I'm yet to receive a response.. - stevesame as all the above, same number (0428465117) but diff name. the name i got was janet maxwell and email address was dvdscott9@gmail.com .
the same clown tried it with me the other week, only with a different name and e-mail address...but same number.

2 attachments - Batman replies to KarenJust had a dodgy SMS from oz (+61 428 465117)responding to my UK Gumtree ad - message reads: "Sent from: Tracie Reynolds Afternoon, (shouldn't that be G'day) do you still have your Car for sale? Please reply only my email (ericfrank800@gmail.com) for more discussion, am at work now."
My bat senses were tingling so I just text back "call me later then as I don't use email."
No reply and no call - so I googles the number and found 6 pages of paypal forum chat horror stories and this site. I didn't post on the paypal forum as you have to log in to your paypal account to comment hmmm. Anyway, from what I have read so far, I think the scam works like this: they get you to initiate the payment request via paypal, they pay but it is held in escrow, they send someone to collect the goods then initiate a chargeback. Because the goods were 'collected' you have NO comeback to paypal. You could report your goods as stolen but it may be considered a 'civil matter' and not criminal per se - however there does seem to be a pattern developing here and an 'intent' to defraud which would certainly make it a criminal offence in most common-law jurisdictions. How am I doing so far? - BatmanJust had a dodgy SMS from oz (+61 428 465117)responding to my UK Gumtree ad - message reads: "Sent from: Tracie Reynolds Afternoon, (shouldn't that be G'day) do you still have your Car for sale? Please reply only my email (ericfrank800@gmail.com) for more discussion, am at work now."

- steveThis guy tried the same on us today........sounded dodgy to us when he first contacted us via SMS about our caravan, he asked what our very best price would be and offered payment via paypal or to out bank account!
His return email agreed to our original asking price and said he needed details for payment ASAP after which he would organise shipment of the van to Darwin!
He had the same speel, working out off NZ, couldnt be contacted by phone, would arrange a courier etc, etc
As a precaution we queried it with the Police who didnt seem to think it was a scam!
Next we called our bank for advice, they assured us that once funds were deposited into our account that it was safe.
I smelled a rat from the beginning really but when you have something for sale you get your hopes up.......anyway .........just for intrest I googled james markane and ...WOW!....this bloke has been very busy.........thanks everyone for posting about this scam!
